Spring Arrives with No Delay in the Sunshine State

LIVING IN DESTIN, FLORIDA, YOU MAY think it is always bright, sunny and warm. And much of the time it is. While the weather is generally very nice, we also have seasons here and the temperature can fluctuate. We experienced some freezing temperatures this past winter, making it one of the coldest winters in a long time.

Being from Cincinnati, Ohio, and moving to Destin a few years ago, I have had plenty of experience dealing with long, cold, dreary winters. Having some snow for the holidays was typically welcomed. But after the holidays, in the Ohio River valley, we had months of cold, gray, wet days that seemed to never end. It was all I could do to make it through those months in hopes of some sun and warmer temps. It was not uncommon to get some snow in April just to torment you, delaying any joy you crave from warm spring days.

Destin may give you a few weeks of cold weather. But as you get into March and April, the weather gives way to sunshine and warmer temps. The excitement of being outside and enjoying the beaches, going fishing, sitting by the pool or enjoying dinner outside, arrives much sooner here than in Ohio. And having had a few cooler weeks only elevates the appreciation for the days spent on the water!

A timely spring welcomes months of warmth and relaxation in the outdoors. The never-ending gray skies don’t torment here, and 75-degree days and cool evenings in the spring make Destin living one of life’s blessings.

We hope you can come visit Destin soon and enjoy all the beautiful weather this area has to offer. Get outside whenever possible! Go fishing, ride a bike, take a walk, sit on the beach, play golf — the list is endless!
