Refl ecting on a Decade
My rst encounter with Northwest Florida Weddings Magazine was monumental. I was sitting in the lobby of Rowland Publishing waiting to be interviewed for a job.
I was three months out of college and couldn’t believe my luck being considered for a role in magazine publishing. I was also very green in the industry and incredibly nervous. On the table in front of me sat a copy of the magazine I had no idea I would one day become editor of.
Picking it up, I busied myself with the pages, worry drifting away. The conference room door opened, and I said hello to my future.
The editor of Northwest Florida Weddings Magazine at the time of my hiring was Chay Baxley. Chay was a few years older than me with a distinct writing voice and enviable, e ortless beach waves. Every day, she made a point of stopping by my desk to talk to me, often bringing me treats.
Chay gave me the con dence to advocate for my stories and assigned me my rst article in Northwest Florida Weddings Magazine. Throughout the process of putting the magazine together, I worked closely beside her, mostly just watching. Little did I know, she would gift me editorship of the magazine when she departed the company.
Since 2017, for seven of this magazine’s 10 years, I have been its editor. That seems unfathomable, yet the fact of it sits in front of me on the co ee table fanned with magazines in my own o ce.
Ten years is an incredible milestone that I feel grateful to the publisher, Brian Rowland and associate publisher, McKenzie Burleigh, for rst dreaming up and believing in the magazine all these years. Without account executives meeting with the vendors and venues throughout these pages and the ad services coordinators assisting clients, this magazine would not ourish as it has.
Throughout the years, I have had many talented writers and marketing professionals lend their voices to this publication both in print and digitally. Janecia Britt and Kate Pierson were especially valuable in championing this magazine and extending the expanse of our readership.
To each designer who has touched this magazine, you’ve graced it with beauty and situated it as a luxury publishing product. To our creative director, Jennifer Ekrut, I value your insights above all and
trust you fully. To our dear lead designer, Sarah Burger, you began as my sorority sister but have become my right-hand woman, my con dant, my trusted eye and my friend.
Whether you’re an advertiser that’s been with us from Page 1 or just joined this year, we are immensely happy you’re here. We exist because of you and your unwavering wish to make each client’s wedding your highest priority.
I would be remiss, as this is a magazine centralized by love, not to thank my husband whose support has buoyed me throughout my publishing career. No one has believed in me like you have, and my belief in you is just as sacred.
Dearest readers, you’re my “why” — why I put words to a page. It is to share your stories and be a part of your happiness. Never do I tire of being witness to your love stories, and I’m humbled by your trust in me to share them.
For a decade, this publication has been strengthened by the ghting power, the pulsating heart of what can never be stopped — love. Despite adversity, laws and global pandemics, society has come together in love again and again. It brings me comfort knowing, for decades to come, we will continue to make the right choice.
All my best,
Rebecca Padge Fre , Editor

Cover couple has a practice run for their own Northwest Florida wedding

Ever Effie Happily
Ann Delaney and Casey Woods simply couldn’t stop smiling at one another. Set against a rooftop backdrop at Hotel E e Sandestin, smiling was a given intent for the Northwest Florida Weddings Magazine cover-shoot couple. But their smiles exuded more than a show for the camera, as they saw each other for the rst time in wedding attire.
Ann and Casey met on an intramural ag football eld while attending the University of South Florida in 2013. As a transfer student, Casey was a free agent looking to join a co-ed team. Begrudgingly, team captain Ann decided to let Casey play one game to assess his skills.
Impressed, she put him on the team. Time on the eld led to time spent

together daily as college crushes developed into a love story of nine years.
Ann and Casey got engaged on December 26, 2022, on a private beach in Tulum Mexico. Under the shade of palm trees, Casey got down on one knee and asked Ann to marry him, as their families witnessed the scene nearby.
The couple will be married in April of 2024 in Alys Beach — a location special to Ann who has spent the past seven years on the Alys Beach marketing team becoming intimately knowledgeable of the location’s unique architecture and pristine beauty.
“It makes my heart so full knowing Casey and I get to say, ‘I do’ in one of the prettiest places in the world,” Ann said.
Where the couple have many details nalized, their attire is yet to be decided upon. In fact, Ann rst tried on a wedding dress at Margaret Ellen Bridal as they selected styles for the cover shoot. Ann credits the Margaret Ellen Bridal team with making her feel comfortable, welcome and con dent throughout the try-on process.
“I felt so beautiful in the stunning wedding dresses I got to wear, and I couldn’t stop smiling seeing Casey in a tux,” Ann said.
As the rst Northwest Florida Weddings Magazine couple to take part in a styled shoot, both Ann and Casey were treated to pampering and styling.
Casey received a fresh cut and product samplings from JA 30A Salon owner Jennifer Albert. Brittany Sigler, owner of Destin Mobile Makeup Box styled Ann’s long locks in loose curls pulled half up in a shtail braid. A dewy, sun-kissed glow was achieved with golds and pinks from Sigler’s own line, Consecrated Cosmetics. Amazing Lash Destin ensured Ann’s eyes were radiant and photo-ready with lash extensions.
Further adding to the beauty of the dresses provided by Margaret Ellen Bridal, McCaskill & Company adorned Ann in strands of pearls,

The groom looked dashing in a suit supplied by Nic’s Toggery of Tallahassee and a snazzy bowtie by designer brand Any Old Iron.
Ann held a gorgeous bouquet, styled by SunQuest Beach Weddings, of pastel hues including peach, fuchsia, lavender and baby blue, accented by white carnations and greenery.
A special moment passed between the couple during their rst look of the day, as they were surely envisioning their April wedding date together.
The talented Jennifer Garcia of Jennifer G Photography was behind the lens, expertly capturing every moment and guiding the couple around Hotel E e’s scenic property, from the Emerald Coast’s only rooftop pool deck to the grand ballrooms.
“The Northwest Florida Weddings team and every one of the vendors were amazing to work with and are de nitely vendors I’m now considering for my own wedding,” said Ann. “Being selected for the cover gave me goosebumps, and we felt pampered the whole day. One day, it will be so special to show this cover to our future children.”

“We realized pretty quickly that a destination wedding was likely something we wanted to explore. The Hilton team made it clear what was included, what wasn’t and worked with us to ensure all our questions were answered quickly and efficiently. This was evident from the beginning, and they made us feel like they would take care of us on our day.
“Hilton and the vendors they worked with helped coordinate all the details that we weren’t really sure about, which is something you want when you’re planning from another state. I wanted some involvement in planning, but I really appreciated having most of the work taken care of by others. We really enjoyed having a destination wedding at the Hilton!”

“Hotel Effie as a whole is so luxurious — detailed, clean and beautiful. I felt like I wasn’t in just any hotel getting married; I was on a retreat where it was a vacation for me and my guests. We loved how everything was in one place. We parked our cars and never had to get back in them until going home. Everyone stayed at Hotel Effie, we had our rehearsal dinner at Ovide, the ceremony on the Elation Lawn and our reception on the Ara Rooftop, all on-site. Additionally, our guests explored Baytowne during the day while the wedding party was getting ready.
“Hotel Effie really made us feel like we were the most important people on the grounds. I was told later that there were a couple of other events happening during our weekend, but I would have never known because the staff was so attentive to me.”

THE PEARL HOTEL
Rosemary Beach
“Our original wedding venue, The Gasparilla Inn in Boca Grande, was severely damaged from Hurricane Ian and we could no longer have our wedding there. We did not want to postpone the date, so we needed to find a new venue immediately. Elijah and I had our engagement shoot in Alys Beach and our photographer lives in Rosemary Beach, so she recommended moving the wedding up there. I’ve always loved The Pearl Hotel and they had a December date available, so we didn’t think twice and booked it. The location was so beautiful, and the hotel was clean and unique to any other venue I had viewed. It was serendipitous that we ended up back where we had our engagement photos taken.
“You will be in the best hands at The Pearl and will feel calm and relaxed the day of your wedding. They made certain everything was in place, and I did not have one worry in the world. They went above and beyond to make sure I was stress-free and enjoyed every moment.” —

Beach Weddings:
Tried and true tips for planning a beachside ceremony and reception
By Rebecca Padgett Frett
Apastel sun sets beneath the ocean as the backdrop for your photoshoot in the sand. Waves gently lap against the shore as you exchange “I do’s.” And a cool sea breeze washes over your reception under the stars. These are the conditions that every couple planning a beach wedding deserves.
Northwest Florida’s emerald waters, undoubtedly white sands and seemingly endless sunshine provide pristine conditions for picturesque beach weddings — as long as Mother Nature has it in her plans. So it is that weather factors must be considered when planning your dream day on the Emerald Coast.
One of the first steps in planning is deciding on the date. While rain chances increase in summer months and hurricane season persists from June through November, the Gulf Coast experiences an average 340 days of sunshine annually, with most summer showers passing quickly.
Angela Kramer, weddings and special events manager at Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Miramar Beach, posits that May, June and October are the most popular months for Northwest Florida weddings, as weather and lighting conditions for outdoor ceremonies are often ideal.
No matter the day of year, it’s advised to have a rain plan in place. Venues such

as Hilton Sandestin Beach can easily transition beachside weddings indoors to one of their elegant and intimate or beautiful and spacious event spaces. Have a backup plan whether that be an indoor space on property, a tent or an alternate location entirely.
“In terms of timing for a beachside ceremony, the resort’s events team suggests opting for a sunset wedding,” said Kramer. “Beyond the beauty of a sinking-sun backdrop for your ceremony and photos, sunset weddings also elude the heat of the day and intense sunlight that makes squinting unavoidable.”
Other creative ways to combat the heat can be implemented, too, whether completely outdoors or if using a hybrid setup.
Shaded spaces, cool beverages, fans and sun protection are all key for an enjoyable day spent beachside.
Attire can also play a role in guest comfort. Encourage lightweight fabrics for men and women, shoes suitable for sand and pulled-back hairstyles. Consider recommending destination or tropical attire on the invite.
Waves can become another concern, but fortunately, many coordinators can provide tide schedules to ensure that water doesn’t creep into your designated wedding space. While the sound of waves can be soothing, it can also become a hindrance. Secure a sound system and microphones to ensure every musical note and word is heard over the waves and wind.

If you are booking your wedding through a resort or venue, they likely have private beaches to ensure passersby don’t interfere before or during the wedding. Check with your coordinators to confirm a plan.
When setting up, all decor should be secured well by zip-tying or weighting down all florals, linens, programs, menus and decor. Wood or acrylic chairs are heavier and less likely to be toppled by wind.
For ceremonies on the sand, Hannah Putynkowski, wedding sales manager with Henderson Beach Resort in Destin, encourages couples to think about the guest experience and who might need accommodations. This could include beach wheelchairs or temporary flooring for aisles. Additionally, you can ask your setup crew to pack down the sand, making it easier for all to walk.
“The Henderson Resort offers two ceremony locations at our beach venue so guests can have the opportunity for their ceremony to be ‘toes in the sand’ or on our beach lawn, providing the opportunity to have the beach view without being directly on the sand,” said Putynkowski.
Embrace your beach setting and serve up seafood, island-inspired appetizers and tropical drinks. Chat with your caterer to ensure there are means in place to keep food hot or cold and protected from insects and the elements.
Just like sunsets, no two beach weddings are ever the same. Be sure to plan ahead for optimal conditions on your happy day. ▪

Artisanal Affairs
By Paige Aigret
Your wedding day should be unique to you as a couple. It should speak to your styles and personalities. Mementos of the occasion should elicit the exact emotions felt in the moment you said, “I do” or the joy in the sway of your first dance.
Commissioning the work of local artisans ensures that your wedding style is exactly your own. Custom wedding invitations, guest favors, paintings of the event or the bride and groom and statement decor can add unique elements that will wow your guests and make your event stand out, setting trends for others.
Live Paintings
Emerald Coast area artist Maxine Orange works locally and regionally, creating live day-of wedding scene portraits, utilizing the abstract to elicit emotions of the moment.
“I pride myself on doing it my own way with my abstract style and focusing primarily on celebrating the energy in the connection of the couple,” said Orange.
During the reception, a captured moment will be used as the scene of the painting. The majority of the painting is done live

at the event, with final touches to be applied afterward. The bride and groom can offer direction on color palettes and event elements to be included. Paintings are typically ready for pickup, delivery or shipping within two to six weeks after the event.
Tallahassee-based Works of Harte owner and artist Alison Fairbrother also offers live-scene day-of portraits locally and regionally, capturing moments such as the ceremony, first dance and first kiss. Live-scene portraits can be done in watercolor or acrylic.
“My goal is to always create a finished piece that reflects the couple, as well as myself as an artist,” said Fairbrother. “The moment that the finished product is revealed has become one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.”
Additionally, Fairbrother offers the option of live-guest portraits, creating memorable favors for your guests to take home the day of your event. Live-guest portraits are done in watercolor on 5-by7-inch cold-press paper and completed within five to 15 minutes for guests to take with them. Pricing for guest portraits varies depending on the number of guests attending your wedding.
Decor and Backdrops
Mosshound Designs owner and fiber artisan Nicole Hemmerly, based out of the Emerald Coast area, handcrafts her macrame and woven artwork designs, creating intricate yet delicate statement pieces that are ideal for weddings. Her macrame chandeliers — knotted in a classically modern yet slightly bohemian pattern — can create a magical
setting when hung throughout the reception space. The incorporation of her woven wall hangings and macrame backdrops at ceremonies creates a dreamlike setting for saying, “I do.”
Hemmerly also makes hand-dyed table runners and napkins, lending a pop of natural color at dinner reception tables, calling them “stunning” and “an invaluable way to add visual interest to your tablescape.”
Her pieces are all created using organic and sustainably sourced materials and come in a number of tasteful earth-toned shades. Pricing varies depending on sizing and number of pieces requested. Most orders should be placed one week in advance, with larger orders requiring a longer turnaround time.
Signage and Stationery
Working for 20 years as a digital and print product designer and fine artist, Laura Patrick, owner of Lello Co. in Tallahassee, creates custom elements for weddings.
“Working with brides to personalize their wedding vision and create meaningful, tangible pieces for such a life changing event is so very rewarding,” said Patrick, who works closely with couples to develop designs.
She offers wedding signage such as watercolor crests and event maps — and can even create pet portraits to incorporate furry family on your special day. Too, she creates custom personalizations for favors such as koozies, bags, playing cards and matches.
Works of Harte artist Fairbrother creates whimsically designed invitations and day-of signage in addition to her live paintings. Using watercolor and ink as mediums, Fairbrother offers her custom artistic expertise in design elements and handwritten calligraphy. For a full invitation suite, couples should plan for several weeks or more turnaround, all depending on specific needs and number of invitations requested. ▪

“Before my husband and I got married, many of our dates and special occasions were at The Edison. We selected The Edison because of the memories we shared there as well as how beautiful the space is. We had a brunch wedding, which paired perfectly with the abundance of natural lighting from the windows. We loved having access to Cascades Park and the Beer Garden for family photos.
“Kate Biel, the event planner at The Edison, was incredibly helpful, making our day look exactly the way we wanted. She went through all the fine details with us, eased our minds and was always quick to answer questions. She was so flexible and accommodating, from dietary restrictions to rearranging locations for events due to rain. We couldn’t be happier to have chosen The Edison. The best part is that we can go back and dine there whenever we want to remember all the fun of our wedding.” — Rebecca Hodges,

Selecting bridal party wear
By Rebecca Padgett Frett
We’ve all heard of or have been the bridesmaid who dislikes the dress she spent a small fortune on or the groomsman whose tux simply doesn’t fit. Your bridal party consists of the best of your friends and the people who will be featured in most of your photos.
There are tried and true ways to ensure your bridal party feels comfortable, looks good and doesn’t break the bank, all while achieving your vision.
Curating Colors
Whether it’s your favorite color or a palette found when seeking inspiration, you likely have wedding colors in mind. It is wise to have one leading color with several complementary shades. Consider skin tone and hair color, too. Certain colors can wash out skin, blend too closely or simply be off-putting to the wearer.
Provide color-swatch options and encourage your bridal party to select the hue. The monochromatic trend is ideal, allowing each person to have a choice in shade while adhering to the color scheme.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed with options and bombarded by trends, Maggie Matthews, owner of Margaret Ellen Bridal in Inlet Beach, suggests going with what you know.
“You don’t want to look back on your wedding photos and think what was I doing with that color or style?” said Matthews. “Keep it classic and think about the years to come and what you would want to see in your photos forever.”
The cohesive color palette and mix and match print trend has staying power when it comes to bridesmaids. Turns out, the groomsmen enjoy the creative freedom just as much.

Flattering Figures
Your bridal party comes in all shapes and sizes — embrace the diverse beauty. Allow bridesmaids to choose their own style. Many bridal stores or online shops categorize by color with dresses available in a variety of silhouettes. You can have some parameters in place and request to approve the dress before they purchase.
“Thankfully, now, a norm is complementing dresses instead of matching, from necklines to entirely different silhouettes that flatter each bridesmaid respectively,” said Sarah Villella, manager and buyer at Narcissus in Tallahassee.
If your heart is set on the same dress for all, an A-line style typically flatters most body types.
Fabric can fit differently on various bodies, Villella noted. Satin might hang well on some bodies, but cling too closely to others, wrinkling and showing sweat easily. Taffeta or organza can quickly become too voluminous, losing the person to fabric.
For groomsmen, advise that they have their suits professionally fitted, whether they elect to rent or buy.
Considering Costs
Do your research to find dresses that are high quality yet affordable, especially when shopping online. The best option remains allowing the bridal party to select their attire, this will ensure they are comfortable with what they are spending, whether they want to splurge or save. Where renting is common for groomsmen, it should be encouraged for bridesmaids as well. Many websites and some stores offer this option.
Envisioning the Look
Be clear on your accessory expectations. Consider gifting your bridal party with jewelry, ties, socks or other items you would like them to wear on the wedding day. Provide a shoe color rather than style so there’s the option of flats or heels. Encourage your bridal party to try their outfits in advance to ensure fit and determine undergarment options.
Decisions on bridal party wear should be solidified four to six months ahead of the wedding to ensure time for arrival and alterations. ▪

LIBATION Celebration
Cheers to the newlyweds
By Raemi Creteur
Wedding bells are ringing and champagne flutes are clinking — it’s time to celebrate and toast to the love shared by the happy couple.
Options are plentiful when deciding which libations to offer. Open bars may not be a thing of the past, but traditions are shifting and something new is on the horizon.
“Open bars are expensive,” Sky Nobles, owner of Fizz & Foam, based in Tallahassee said. “Weddings have shifted away from getting guests drunk in favor of creating a memorable experience.”
Fizz & Foam works closely with each couple to determine the best fit for their special day. Rather than hosting an open bar with plentiful choices and free-flowing booze, couples are opting for a more personal and intimate selection of crafted cocktails.
“Every time we serve a cocktail on tap, it is so fun for the party when it’s named after the bride or groom,” Nobles said. “Whether it’s ‘Blushing Bride,’ ‘Grinning Groom’ or named after a family pet, and even if grandpa only drinks whiskey on the rocks, he and all the other guests will want to try the special drink.”
Nobles offers some suggestions for settling on a key menu of a few signature cocktails. She likes to focus on seasonal drinks with locally sourced ingredients that make each drink a truly special experience.
If you’re stuck on what type of drinks to provide, Nobles says you can’t go wrong with a margarita.
“People want to be more than ordinary, so it’s not just a margarita anymore — it’s a pineapple mango margarita,” she said. “The flavors are getting more complex, not in a difficult way, but people want a threedimensional drink.”
Prosecco, Nobles adds, is also starting to become a popular replacement for champagne. The differences are subtle, but Prosecco boasts a sweeter flavor with more robust bubbles.
Bar services, like Better Together Beverage in Santa Rosa Beach, owned and operated by Christine Tarpey, will walk you through every step of the way and guide you toward a unique and personalized menu that is sure to please the crowd.
“I love making drinks pretty,” Tarpey said. “Garnishes are a great way to enhance and personalize a drink.”
Tarpey works with bakery garnishes — sprinkles, colored sugar crystals and the like — for a fun drink addition. She uses all parts of fruit, such as the crowns of pineapples, cutting the leaves with craft scissor patterns creating beautifully elegant beverage decor. Smoke bubbles are also a popular way to elevate both flavor and experience.
When developing your menu, consider key drinking moments where a specialty crafted cocktail will elevate the event: the toast to the bride and groom, the couples’ first sip together and the kickoff to the reception.
“When you’re picking cocktails for your menu,” advised Tarpey, “as much as you want to please every person attending, it’s all about the wedding party.”
Prosecco or champagne is a classy way to toast. The first sip can be done with a signature cocktail developed specifically to celebrate the love between the newlyweds. A rum, vodka punch or a margarita will get everyone in the mood to dance the night away.
Consider, too, the importance of incorporating wedding day favorites during key anniversaries to aid your sensory memory. The featured bride and groom cocktail is a great way to bring the memories flooding back with a single sip whether it’s the first year or the 50th. ▪

A Dazzling SELECTION
Jewelry that speaks to your wedding day vision
By Paige Aigret
Choosing wedding day jewelry is an aspect that may seem minor but should be considered early on. A piece of jewelry can serve as a priceless memento of the wedding day for your significant other, wedding party or family members.
Often, the first step is shopping for wedding bands, and Abby Crane, sales professional at The Gem Collection in Tallahassee, suggests trying them on in person.
“You might change your mind, and sometimes you might be surprised by another band that will look better with it,” Crane said.
The style of your engagement ring setting should be considered. Crane noted that some styles won’t sit flush with a Tiffany setting, calling instead for a contour style or a design like a chevron shape or braided band.
Dezarae Daniell of McCaskill & Company in Destin said that statement engagement rings pair well with a classic band, allowing the stones to stand out. She added that dainty diamond-studded bands have been popular for brides but suggests that these be soldered to your engagement ring for longevity.
Rings serve as a starting point for the rest of your wedding jewelry. Brides might
choose to incorporate similar shapes, styles and gems.
Crane suggested combining the “something new” and “something blue” for a unique wedding-style component — choosing a blue-toned gem set in a bracelet, necklace or earrings. This combo could also honor a family member who has a March, September or December birthday, in choosing an aquamarine, sapphire or blue topaz gemstone.
For long hair styled down, drop earrings stand out over studs, which are a great option for short hair or an updo. Daniell pointed out that many modern brides are nixing the veil, opting instead for ornate hairpieces. Pin back beach waves with a gem-studded hair comb.
The style of dress is an important factor as well. The neckline will help determine necklace style and length.
“No matter the neckline, if you are going to wear a necklace, it should be sitting on skin, not your dress,” said Daniell.
Daniel suggests a back necklace for an open-back dress; chokers and statement necklaces for strapless or sweetheart necklines; and a pendant for v-necks.
For the bride wearing a simplistic column or trumpet-style dress, a pearl strand or
pendant will highlight that classic look and can include matching studs.
A ball-gown bride will dazzle in a Riviera necklace with gems of the same shape and size circling the necklace. Stacked rings, chandelier earrings and diamond tennis bracelets add sparkle and shimmer.
A bohemian bride in a lace A-line or linen dress, could go for a Y-style or dainty yellow-gold necklace or opt for floral inspired jewelry. Eclectic gemstones and a floral headpiece can enhance the boho look.
When it comes to gifting, Crane suggests focusing on pieces that can be worn beyond the wedding day.
Daniell agreed, noting that, “Diamonds always add a timelessness to brides as they walk down the aisle.”
A tennis bracelet or a dainty bracelet with gemstones are ideal gifts for the bride. Watches are perfect for the groom, with brands like Rolex, Seiko and Longines. Pendant earrings for bridesmaids will stand out in photos, or dainty initial pendants serve as an evergreen option. Cuff links, tie clips and chain necklaces make great gifts for groomsmen. Crane noted Vahan bracelets as popular gifts for the mother of the bride.
With an abundance of options to choose from, it’s wise to reach out to a local jeweler for their expert opinion.
“It is okay to not know exactly what you want,” Daniell said. “Jewelry is such an emotional purchase. It’s a much more delightful experience to have someone help you pick that out.”
At the end of the day, your personal style, happiness and comfort are the most important. Trends come and go. Sentiments stay with you for life. ▪

Elevate YOUR DAY
Experiential weddings are growing in popularity
By Rebecca Padgett Frett
Food trucks personnel serve hungry partygoers. Guests laugh as they pop out of a photo booth and grab their newly printed mementos. Attendees keep a bounce house rocking. Others line up for a turn with the live portraitist. And a fireworks show lights up the sky as glasses clink with cheers.
All of that may seem appropriate to a Gatsby-esque party or a city festival in the streets. But for many, it’s the ideal vision for wedding-day festivities.
Experiential weddings were a trend even before the pandemic, but COVID-19 caused them to become even more popular. The approach offers couples and their guests interactive ways to celebrate, beyond boogying on the dance floor.
“Following lockdown, there was an overall heightened appreciation for meaningful and memorable interaction,” said John Gandy, owner and creative director at John Gandy Events.
As wedding planners and designers, Gandy and his team help couples create novel experiences for their big day. Some of his favorites include processions from the ceremony to cocktail hour and taking guests on a cruise.
Sky Nobles, owner of Fizz & Foam mobile bar in Tallahassee, began her business in 2020. She has seen an influx of business in the years since, as couples return to the drawing board for their once-postponed wedding.
“Experiences make a wedding unique to that couple,” Nobles said.
Nobles’ mobile bar can be merged with any setting. Her signature Truckster serves guests pint-sized keg cocktails, specifically curated and named as the couple’s signature drink. Her champagne-lined Cheers Wall makes for a unique beverage presentation and photo

backdrop. The company also offers a frozen drink cart, a flower truck and balloon service.
Various food and activity options can turn your wedding into a festival-like affair. A lineup of food trucks could include tacos, sweet treats, street food or a cotton candy cart. Mobile cigar bars, bourbon tastings, wine tastings and coffee bars are increasingly in demand, too. And campers, vintage buses and horse trailers can be converted into styled photo booths complete with decor and props.
Entertainers and artists can craft memorable experiences at the reception. Live painters or caricaturists offer entertainment to guests as well as a take-home memento. Florists can be incorporated beyond the bouquet, offering on-site crafting of flower crowns for guests to flaunt at the event and take home. Poets can craft romantic verse as favors. And tarot readers can provide guests with insights to their future.
To awe and amaze, hire a string quartet, a live band, fire dancers, belly dancers, ballerinas, a magician, a mariachi band or aerialists.
If you want to get attendees on their feet and interacting, consider lawn games, a wedding-themed scavenger hunt or karaoke. Bounce houses or carnival rides are not only fun but make for whimsical photo ops.
For an intimate wedding, elopement, bridal shower, engagement or bachelorette/ bachelor party, picnics are a popular way to dine in a creative and aesthetic setting. Melissa Gross, owner of Serenity Picnic Company in Destin, creates custom beachfront picnics for small to large groups.
“We provide unique decorative touches and make a beach dining experience with what you would normally have at a nice restaurant,” Gross said. “We use real dishes and linens, beach-friendly drinkware that looks real and put it in a cozy and beautiful environment.”
Weddings offer a rare occasion for family and friends to gather as a whole. So, seize the opportunity to create a once-ina-lifetime event you’ll all be reminiscing about for years to come.
Experiences await. ▪

They offered a wide variety of menu options to choose from and were very helpful with suggesting items that would complement our vision of an afternoon garden party wedding, which was held at The Ball House and Cottages at SouthWood. “The staff at Catering Capers made our day very special. They were friendly and made sure every detail was handled professionally and provided excellent service. They made sure our guests were taken care of throughout the day. We received so many compliments from our guests on how delicious the food was and how everything was beautifully presented. Everything was perfect from beginning to end.” — Brittany Williams Roos,

AMAZING LASH STUDIO
Destin | Pensacola | Panama City Beach
“Lash extensions provide that ready-to-go look from wedding day to honeymoon. Brides enjoy the freedom, comfort and confidence that lash extensions provide. We provide a relaxed, private, spa-like experience for lash applications, and the entire space can be rented out for you and your bridal party.
“Because they are applied to your natural lashes as a semi-permanent option, you don’t have to worry about mascara smearing or running in the heat or if you’re tearing up on your wedding day. They are also lighter than lash strips, and they won’t fly away or fall off. Amazing Lash provides brides with a level of security, knowing that their beautiful lashes will stay that way all day.” —

Choose Your Hues
A guide to creating color palettes for your wedding florals and decor
By Rebecca Padgett Frett
Many couples are leaving the traditional “white wedding” behind, opting instead to use the color wheel to their advantage. A “bright wedding” can incorporate vibrant hues in small doses or as bold statements. Couples might select standout colors to match against an achromatic base, combine shades within the same color family or mix and match eye-catching hues.
The point is to have fun with it. Make note of colors you naturally gravitate toward or create a mood board for your wedding and see what shades you come up with. Planners, designers and florists can offer guidance and color-scheme expertise.
Your venue can help lead you to both your theme and your color palette, which
can coincide. If your venue already leans heavily toward one color scheme, embrace it, or at least avoid colors that might clash.
Seasons can similarly inspire. Consider warm earth tones for fall, soft pastels for spring, bold and bright for summer and rich jewel tones for winter.
Aesthetic elements to be incorporated in the wedding day can influence colorpalette choice, too — florals, table decor, bridal-party style and others. Begin by focusing on one element you know you want — pale pink peonies, lavender bridesmaids dresses or amber vases and dishware. Then choose complementing colors to form a cohesive palette.
“A lot of this process is based on the style of the wedding,” said Chelsea Finch,
80 NORTHWESTFLORIDAWEDDINGS.NET
Summer couples love a citrus sunset color palette bursting with clementine orange, blush, coral, sunny yellow and gold accents.
wedding specialist with A Country Rose Florals. “We discuss with the couple how much color is preferred, which helps us determine the floral base we use and then those secondary blooms to complement.”
Often, designers refer to a palette as a color story and advise five or fewer colors. Think of the story you want your colors to tell, beginning with a leadcharacter color and adding supporting characters from there.
“Color is magical because it can enhance an environment and create a vibe important to the couple,” said Ellie Gunnels, florist with Missy Gunnels Flowers. “Some couples have come up with a color palette for personal reasons, such as a place they vacationed the first time or a place they got engaged.”
Courtney Hicks, director of events at SunQuest Beach Weddings, has a recipe that serves her in guiding couples on color decisions. She begins by asking couples to provide inspiration pictures. She then inquires about any must haves, any dislikes and any floral allergies. This allows her to provide couples with three sample selections of curated florals.
Other ways to infuse a hue include colored streamers, balloons, glass and tableware, invitation suites, tapestries, artwork, bridal-party wear, seating charts, linens, confetti and other decor elements.
Finch noted that in 2022 earth-toned browns were very popular, and that trend is continuing, often paired with pops of fuchsia.
For 2023 and beyond, Gunnels adores the unexpected — bright pinks, orange shades and yellows paired with a pale purple or matching pastel corals, peaches and pinks with a bright red.
Hicks is drawn to mixing blues and pinks — navy blue and hot pink; dusty blue and blush pink; and glimmers of gold and bold pinks with burnt oranges and light blues.
Whichever hues you choose, be sure they speak to you as a couple — colors that elicit personal memories and will emphasize the individuality of your overall theme. ▪

Destin Mobile Makeup Box
Destin Mobile Makeup Box owner Brittany Sigler is a girls’ girl. Her top priority in business and life is making women feel confident and comfortable, especially when it comes to bridal beauty.
Her mobile beauty services have proven evidence of her dedication to the client. But Sigler sought expansion in the form of an intimate and inviting space that would host beauty trials, glam services for engagement shoots and offer rental space to get ready before the ceremony.
Her recently opened bridal beauty bar has brought that vision to life.
“We felt the need for our brides to be treated to a more elevated experience,” Sigler said. “This is a private space where they can be comfortable and connect in a beautiful, relaxing ambience, since we are by appointment only.”
Sigler and her team of 12 certified beauty professionals offer bridal services including full-face event makeup, airbrush makeup, bridal hairstyling and sunless tanning.
The brick and mortar building will host sunless tanning service provider Destin 30A Luxe Mobile Tan and will offer permanent jewelry from Beachy Keen Permanent Bracelets, making it a one-stop-shop for all things bridal pampering.
Hair accessories and Sigler’s own makeup line, Consecrated Cosmetics, will be available for purchase. The Consecrated Cosmetics lip liquid is a highly popular product for its all-day staying power.
For those who elect a bridal trial, a variety of hair accessories, veils, robes and white tops are available to try on, allowing you to fully envision your wedding day look.
All trials and bridal services are by appointment only, and the space can be booked to rent for bridal parties that need a place to glam together.
“I venture to say that most brides will remember who did their hair and makeup for how beautiful and comfortable they made them feel while providing a memorable experience with their bridal party,” Sigler said. “I’m creating a beauty culture of fun and heartfelt welcoming, from your trial to the day of the wedding and all the moments in between.”
