fusing
Designing is a fusion of different elements and media. When I design, I combine what I have researched and what has inspired
my projects. Also, having a different point of view and trying out the suggestions of my peers and instructors are helpful in the design process, because they may have a different view or think of something I may have not thought of. I feel that when designing one has to try out many different approaches until creating a final product that successfully works.

Nature’s Important Inhabitants
objective / The project was to design an experimental scientific coffee table book.
approach / The concept was around the natural sciences; in this case, the fungi kingdom. The book’s design has a scientific, technical feel to it. The text is about the influence of the fungi kingdom on everyday life, how it is very helpful to humans, not just as a source of food, but also fungi’s medicinal purposes and how without them we wouldn’t survive.

Inspired by Grandma’s Recipes
objective / This project was to choose an existing store or company that manufactures a line of products and design seasonal or bi-annual promotional campaign for it.
approach / The company chosen was Susie Cakes bakery. The mission was to talk about what inspires the bakery and its products. The concept for the design centered around the recipes handed down by the owner’s grandmothers’ and the traditional way the baked goods are made.

objective / The project entailed the redesign the brand of an existing company and create an accompanying systems manual.
approach / The company chosen was Skechers. The concept was based around the Southern California beach town vibe, since their headquarters are in Manhattan Beach, CA. The unique selling position was that Skechers, beyond shoes...it’s a lifestyle. In the systems manual along with showing how the logo and brand was redesigned, different brand applications were shown.

A Helpful Source
objective / The project was to create a mobile website that showed collected data through graphs and infographics.
approach / The theme for this site was employment information in San Francisco. The website would target people searching for jobs locally or for people who were thinking about moving to the city. The site gives different facts about average salary rates, some of the major industries in the city, levels of education, and so forth.

objective / The project was to create a promotional brochure and poster for a presentation about a condition that affects society.
approach / The topic covers what are the causes of anxiety and stress, and how it could be prevented or treated. The brochure includes informational graphics and facts about these conditions.

The Art of Managing Money
objective / For this project an app had to be created. The app had to serve a purpose, how it could be helpful to people.
approach / Save Up is about managing your money, and keeping your bills and expenses in order. It also has a feature where the user can set a weekly budget for themselves; and put some money aside to save up for something specific. The app is directed at college students, specifically art school, who are going to be on their own and not have their parents paying for things. This app can help keep their expenses organized.

A Tradition of Innovation
objective / In this project a logo and brand had to be redesigned for a paper company.
approach / The paper company chosen was Neenah Paper. Aside from redesigning a new logo, it had to be applied to a stationery system, promotional brochure, poster, and other collateral. The concept for the design was to honor the tradition of this paper company but bring it into modern times to appeal to designers who would be purchasing Neenah Paper’s line of products.

Everything You Need in One Place
objective / The project entitled redesigning the brand of an existing store or company and create an accompanying systems manual.
approach / The company chosen was KMart. The concept for the brand was to give it a more modern feel to attract younger buyers. The brand book shows the new logo, rules of how to use the logo and different ways in which the brand would be applied.

A Pure Workout
objective / The project was to come up with a non existing product and create a brand for it.
approach / The product was a self cleaning yoga mat, made out of antibacterial material that doesn’t need special cleaners. The concept was based on giving the user was a pure, clean workout. The project included designing a wordmark for it, and creating a promotional brochure and mailer.

Typographically Driven
objective / The objective of this project was to create a typographic classification poster series.
approach / The type of classification system was based on the Vox System. First, we started out with the Garalde poster and from then on designing the Slab serif and Lineale posters. All three posters design had to feel like a set, but include details that belonged to each of the typographic class and the period of time.
