Students pay tribute by placing poppies
Photos by Cornelia Naylor More than 350 students from two New Westminster schools turned out in the pouring rain at Fraser Cemetery to pay tribute to fallen soldiers on Nov. 4. The students, in grades 2 through 5, were part of the annual No Stone Left Alone project. No Stone Left Alone is an educational initiative that brings youth from across Canada out to recognize the sacrifices of Canada’s military men and women – through the simple act of placing poppies on their gravestones. The students from Skwo:wech and École Herbert Spencer elementary schools were joined by Canadian Armed Forces members and cadets of the Royal Westminster Regiment, plus representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion and community organizations including Rotary Club, Hyack Festival Association and Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral. Together they placed more than 450 poppies in the military section of the cemetery.
