Spring Break Camp: Focus on Nature

Behind the Scenes Tour: Photo Lab

March 9 – 13 9 am – 4 pm March 16 – 20 9 am – 4 pm Calling all aspiring shutterbugs! Develop your skills in photo composition and storytelling as we venture around the museum and out into the world. The week involves learning directly from one of the winners of Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Jess Findlay. No fancy camera needed, but campers need to be familiar with how theirs works. After care available. Lunch and snacks not provided. $224 per person I Ages 8 – 12

Staff Picks Mingle March 12 1 – 3 pm Join in conversation with our curators in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition as they share their favourite photograph and tell stories that will connect you even closer to our collections and exhibitions. Included with admission or membership

Workshop: Moccasin Making Part 1 April 15 5 – 7 pm Part 2 April 22 5 – 7 pm Join multi-media artist Lindsay Delaronde to learn about the history and construction of moccasins, and then make your own. Our fist nature walk looks at botanicals at Uplands Park guided by Botany Collections Manager Dr Erica Wheeler, Curator of Botany, Dr Ken Marr, Curator of Botany and Earth History, Dr Richard Hebda and research associate James Miskelly. Night at the Museum: Gold Gold Rush! El dorado in BC exhibition opens May 13 – Oct 31 Daily Explore the gold rush from Bogotá to British Columbia through dazzling displays and artifacts. Learn how the gold rushes of the 1800s forever changed BC as class and racial barriers were broken down and people seized the extraordinary opportunities that glittered before them. Visitors can marvel at the dazzling Turnagain Nugget, the largest existing gold nugget from BC at 1,642g (52 oz.), see a real stagecoach on loan from the Historic O’Keefe Ranch, and witness the cultural influences of gold through the Bill Reid gold box, just a sampling of the more than 400 objects on display. This exhibition includes Allure of Gold, the only North American showing of over 100 Colombian treasures from the Museo del Oro in Bogotá, Colombia. Also on display for a limited engagement, from May 13 – June 14, 2015 only, the fist million dollar coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint.

Museums and the World: Distinguished Lecture Series This new series brings international cultural leaders from around the world to present their experiences, research and insights on the importance and relevance of museums from the perspectives of the finest artists, authors, critics and scholars. Then artist Aimée van Drimmelen will facilitate methods of illustrating the bones of marmots and other mammals. Indigenous Languages in the House of Memory Our Living Languages On Now Daily This groundbreaking, interactive exhibition celebrates the resilience and diversity of First Nations languages in BC in the face of change. Learn what First Nations communities throughout the province are doing to help their languages survive and flourish.
