WELCOME

WELCOME TO THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC’S SUMMER SEASON This season, we welcome back Vladimir Jurowski, who brings a programme of neo-classical brilliance with Strauss and Stravinsky. There’s more Stravinsky at the Royal Festival Hall, where we perform with conductor Diego Masson as part of the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Stravinsky: Myths & Rituals series. Our composer in residence is the remarkable Israeli composer, Chaya Czernowin, whose distinctive voice reveals a fascination with sound in space, and is represented in solo, chamber and orchestral performances. Six fully staged mini-operas continue our ground-breaking biennial project with Tête à Tête, where RCM composers write for the performers of the RCM International Opera School. The theme this year celebrates the 150th anniversary of the publication of Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment. You will find our performers around London in the coming months, including the RCM Junior Department 90th Anniversary Gala Concert and RCM Rising Stars at Cadogan Hall, top RCM string players at Wigmore Hall and the RCM Big Band at the Southbank Centre, playing Duke Ellington’s celebration of Shakespeare – Such Sweet Thunder. And with Super String Sunday, the RCM Festival of Percussion, Orchestral Masterworks, masterclasses with Sir Thomas Allen, Pinchas Zukerman and Ton Koopman and Humperdinck’s delightful opera on the story of Hänsel and Gretel, there is plenty to enjoy at our home here in South Kensington. We look forward to welcoming you here. Stephen Johns Artistic Director 020 7591 4314 / www.rcm.ac.uk/events
