Responsible Luxury Responsible Luxury

At Royal Davui Island Fiji, we feel that luxury is more than just marble floors and gold taps, rather it is about service from people who care, a welcoming sense of comfort and being with people who are just happy to be here. As such we have endeavoured to provide a level of service and standards of comfort unseen in Fiji’s remote Boutique Island Resorts. However, we are very conscious that the fragile environment in which we live is our main attraction. For this reason we have made an effort to minimise the impact our development has had on it. Since opening in 2004 Royal Davui Island Resort, has won a number of international accolades including being voted the Most Romantic Island Hideaway in the South Pacific, Caribbean and Atlantic for 2 years running by Conde Naste Johansens, as well as being named the most Romantic Island Resort in Fiji by Conde Naste Publication Bride Magazine in New York. The resort employs 99% Fijian staff with the majority coming from the neighbouring islands. We feel we have a responsibility to help bring employment to our region as well as help to develop areas of education for the local children. Royal Davui Island Resort also understands that we have a profound responsibility to our natural ecosystem. We use Pure Fiji products in our bathrooms and Spa as well as 90% locally grown produce. During the construction of the resort we placed the Vales in locations, which eliminated the need to cut down old growth trees. We also kept the impact to the coral reef to an absolute minimum and have introduced a full tertiary water treatment plant, which means that all wastewater is treated and converted into usable garden water. Our choice of building materials and interiors were designed to reflect the modern elements of our South Pacific home and neighbours. All timber used in the construction was purchased from sustainable plantation stock to reduce the impact on our beautiful forests. We have established practices to limit the amount of waste that we produce. We try to ensure that any waste that is created as a result of our operations is disposed of in a careful and responsible manner or recycled. Today, Royal Davui Island Resort is Fiji’ leader in Responsible Luxury.

Accommodation

Privacy and intimacy are key on Royal Davui Island Resort and there are only 16 Vales (Fijian for home) in total nestled into the lush tropical gardens. All of the private Vales look out across the water, in essence, each Vale is an Island unto itself. There are four types of accommodation, each with it’s own unique style and all designed with understated luxury and elegance in mind. The open plan layout is designed to take full advantage of the stunning vista and create an inviting indoor/outdoor ambiance. Inside you’ll find a spacious sleeping pavilion, a separate oversized bathroom and beautifully appointed living area. The large outdoor decks are home to a private plunge pool, sun deck and dining deck, all of which are the perfect location for soaking in the views.

Island & Deluxe Pool Vales

Located on the Southern & Eastern sides of the Island, these Vales enjoy views over our ancient Fijian Rock Fishtrap or Beqa Island in the distance. French doors open your bedroom to your private sundeck and from your living room to your private dining deck and plunge pool. Located three steps up from the bedroom is your oversized bathroom featuring a Jacuzzi Spa Bath, oversized shower with our unique “open air shower. Your bedroom is air conditioned and offers a king size bed, while in the living room there is a mini-bar, iPod docking station and telephone.

From 905sq ft (84sqm)

Premium Pool Vales

Royal Davui’s elegant tropical design is purposely casual, just the way Fiji should be. In addition to your heated private plunge pool, each of Royal Davui’s 6 Premium Vales has two large verandas as an extension of the living area with vistas of the Beqa Lagoon and sunset or partial sunset views. Each deck is designed for either sunning or dining. The sun decks of the Premium Vales are bathed in midday and afternoon sun, allowing you to take full advantage of the day to get your vacation tan up with a higher level of privacy. The light, open interior of each Vale houses your air conditioned bedroom, king-size bed, Pacific-inspired furniture, work desk and mini-bar for those vacation cocktails. From 970sq ft (90sqm)

Sunset Pool Suites

Located on the leeward side of the island and facing directly west our Sunset Plunge Pool Suites offer stunning views of the lagoon as well as the perfect setting to watch the sun sink into vast South Pacific Ocean. French doors open your living area onto a vast deck as it wraps around the front of the villa. Bask in the sun drenched outdoor spaces. Relax in your heated plunge pool and while away time in some of Fiji’s most private accommodation. End the day with a glass of your favourite tipple and watch the sun settle into the vast South Pacific Ocean.

1185sq ft (110sqm)

Royal Davui Pool Suite East Hand-carved solid mahogany double doors guard the entrance to your personal sanctuary — the only one of its kind on the island.

Opening this gateway reveals a hidden paradise, where an indoor garden welcomes you and leads your gaze outward toward the azure Beqa Lagoon beyond. A path gently slopes down toward a deck and your large heated private plunge pool, while a small stairway leads you up toward your living room offering the best vantage point on the island — and enough room for a 35-person standing cocktail party or reception. The Royal Davui Suite is truly special Vale for those truly special occasions. 1185sq ft (110sqm)

Royal Davui Pool Suite West Located on the Western most point of Royal Davui is our stunning Royal Davui Suite West. Boasting views of both sunrise and sunset, this villa is the ultimate in outdoor living.

Surrounding the villa is an expansive deck reaching to the very edge of the cliff face giving the illusion of floating over the ocean! Boasting a view of both the sunrise and sunset this villa is by far the most popular on the island. Laze away the days in the solitude of your expansive deck. 1185sq ft (110sqm)

Helicopter: Guests are able to charter a plane in order to tailor their travel plans. Charters are subject to availability. What to pack: Royal Davui Fiji is a relaxed casual resort, with dress being informal. Most guests dress a little more formal for even meals (ties or jackets are not required). We recommend you pack shorts, cotton shirts, sundresses, swim suits and a pair of rubber soled shoes or reef walkers if you are want to explore the coral. During our cooler months ( Jun – Aug) you may want to pack some warmer clothes as dining is generally outdoors. Fiji’s sun can be strong, therefore we also suggest you bring sun glasses and sun screen. Same day Valet Laundry is available on the island. Pool/Beach Towels are provided on the island. Excess Luggage: Whilst minimal luggage is required for a remote island vacation, we understand that some of our guests are on a multi-country trip. Excess Luggage can be stored at Nadi Airport for a fee. There is a left luggage office near the domestic departure lounge. Alternatively Royal Davui can arrange to have your luggage brought to the island by car/boat for a fee. Luggage Restriction: Due to our remote location there is a strict 20kg (40lb)pp bag weight limit on luggage. Soft bags are recommended. The 20kg luggage restriction applies to helicopter and plane transfers

Dive Sites

1) Big Fish Encounter Descend the Northern edge of the lagoon along with shark wranglers and feeders. Sit back and enjoy the show as large bull, tiger and reef sharks are hand feed.

5) Side Streets One of the most famous sites in the lagoon with dozens of bombies covered in so much life. This site warrants several dives in order to see just a small part.

2) Nasici Rocks These series of pinnacles seem to have everything a diver could want. Caverns & overhangs covered in soft corals & fans, fish in every color and an abundance of anemones.

6) Three Nuns These three massive coral bombies seem to be perfectly aligned and are covered in soft and hard coral as well a wealth of colorful tropical fish.

3) Fantasea Arguably the best dive site in the Lagoon. The stunning display of soft corals, anemones and fish life that covers this pinnacle truly lives up to the name of Fantasea.

7) Seven Sisters Deriving it’s name from seven pinnacles in close proximity to each other, this site offers divers an amazing aquarium like experience. Hard & soft coral, and a large variety of tropical fish make this a spectacular dive.

4) Golden Arch This series of coral bombies offer divers a beautiful dive with many forms of coral and fish with a massive swim through archway lined with soft corals of every color imaginable.

8) TASU II Wreck Sunk in 1994 as a dive site, this 200 ton fishing vessel sits upright on a sandy bottom in about 25m. The visibility of this site is great for underwater photography.

9) Frigate Passage This remote location offers some of the most spectacular coral formations with giant gorgonian fans and black coral bushes. This site is subject to some strong currents and is therefore only for advanced divers. 10) Davui Wreck Sunk in 2006, this 200ft fishing vessel sits in 20-30m of water and is accessible direct from the Resort. 11) Shore Dives/Night Dives Night dives allow guests to see the Marine Park in a whole new light (no pun intended) with an abundance of nocturnal marine creatures venturing out. 12) Small Boat Passage Located on the Southern side of the reef, this open water dive offers astounding visibility with some larger fish.

Tr avel Documentation: Your passport has to be valid at least 6 months beyond your anticipated return date. A visa is not required for entry into Fiji if you are travelling on an Australian, US or UK passport. Please check visa requirements for all other nationalities. Please note that all health, passport and visa requirements are your responsibility. Getting To Fiji: Getting to Fiji could not be easier. Air Pacific flies from Australia, the USA, New Zealand and Hong Kong on a regular basis and codeshares with American Airlines and Qantas. There is also Pacific Blue (the Australian arm of Virgin) who flies from Australia and Air New Zealand who flies from New Zealand. Time Zone: Fiji is located on the Western side of the International Date line. This means that when guests fly from the US they will cross over it and “lose a day. Fiji operates on Greenwich mean time plus twelve hours. Weather: Fiji has a mild tropical climate throughout the year with refreshing sea breezes to keep you comfortable. Temperatures range from low 70F to the High 90F (20C-32C) depending on the season. Water temperature in Fiji averages 78F (26C) year round. All accommodation on Royal Davui have ceiling fans as well as air conditioners and a private plunge pool. Water and Electricity: Royal Davui obtains fresh water from a natural spring located on Beqa Island which is piped to the island. Purified water is available for guests throughout the resort. Electrical generators on the island provide 240volt AC with all the power points on the island being 3 prong (the same as Australia and New Zealand). For your convenience, the bathrooms are fitted with 110 volt shaver plugs as well as 240v hair dryers. We recommend bringing adaptors for any electronics that do not fit the outlets in the villas.
