Midlands Regional Brass Band Championships of GB 2023

At times powerful and gripping, at times soothing and harmonious, THEM follows the stories of three young women as they shift through time and space, finding healing from the pages of their journal, and resolve from the voices of others.

After a publicly acclaimed 2019 tour of Father Figurine, Body Politic are back with an arresting display of hip hop dance. Directed by Emma-Jane Greig and choreographed by Jackie Kibuka, featuring stunning choreography and exceptional performers, THEM is an emotional portrayal of dehumanisation, and the arduous journey back to yourself.

Youth Brass 2000 is a local independent band for young people up to 19 years of age. For the last seven years they have been UK Champion Youth band and in 2018 were also European champions. Former players have gone on to join ‘big name’ bands and orchestras. This annual concert has been successfully promoted by the Rotary Club for many years. All proceeds will be donated to the band and other local charities.

The Witness

Having inherited a shoe factory in Northampton from his father which is on the verge of bankruptcy, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola to produce a line of high heeled boots and save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all.

As part of Core Create, participants can enjoy developing a wide range of theatre skills including performing, improvisation, storytelling, stagecraft, writing, directing, lighting/sound design and stage management. This group is open to all levels of experience and no audition is necessary to join. Core Create is a fun, supportive and committed group who enjoy working with professional theatre directors and other arts practitioners. Join our innovative group in Spring 2023 and play a part in creating a new performance for Splore at The Core, our family festival in February 2023 (see p10); and also a brand new story for our Murder Mystery Evening in March 2023 (see p17).

Core Comedians

By joining our Core Comedians group, any budding performers have the chance to work with comedians from the professional circuit to develop their own comedy voice. Skills such as creating their own stand up set, sketch writing and improvisation are developed during the weekly sessions.

Participants regularly perform as part of our family friendly Bangers and Mash Comedy Club to gain unique professional experience in front of a paying audience (see p15).

Bursaries

With thanks to the generosity of both the Travers Foundation and the Margaret Giffen Charitable Trust, we are able to offer our Core Create and Sparks sessions at a reduced fee of £50 (usually £80) and our Core Comedians course at just £40.

We are also offering a sibling discount, so if you have two siblings taking part in activities, the termly fee for the second child/young person would only be £25.

For families living with financial hardship, we would not want the termly fees to prevent your child or young person being able to take part, so, with thanks to the Margaret Giffen Community Fund, we have a limited amount of free, bursary funded places. Work Experience

We are able to offer a limited amount of places throughout the academic year for young people interested in experiencing different aspects of working in the theatre.

Meeting in a town centre location, the weekly sessions at Project M support participants to develop their music skills. Any level of experience is welcome, but an interest and enthusiasm for music and music production is essential. Learn how to create rhymes, beats, raps and vocals with professional MCs Mr Shay and Strizzy Strauss There will also be the opportunity to join in workshops with songwriters, composers, producers and other professional musicians.

Schools Partnerships

Through our partnership programme with schools and colleges, we can create a bespoke range of creative workshops, projects and activities to support all areas of the curriculum, wellbeing and after school activities alongside discounted rates for shows and performances. We can support with Arts Award and GCSE Drama practical assessments as well as arranging theatre visits to learn about all aspects of working life and careers in the arts and theatre. The Table Sessions

Are you a theatre maker with a new play in development?

Are you ready to see your work brought to life by a creative team and viewed by a live audience?

Are you ready to receive some valuable feedback?

Working in partnership with The Playwright’s Laboratory, we are seeking new plays for a monthly series of table read sessions in our Lab studio theatre space.

Your play will be worked on for a day with professional actors and a director before a live table read in the evening.

As well as taking place in front of a live audience, the table read will be live streamed and also captured as a 360 VR film, which will later be shared on The Playwright’s Laboratory’s industry platform and available to be viewed by industry professionals globally.

What We Are Looking For…

We are looking for both short (5 to 15 minute) plays and longer (45 to 75 minute) plays that can be read with a maximum of 5 actors, utilising double ups if necessary.

Plays will be read by a diverse panel from The Core and The Playwright’s Laboratory and those that are likely to benefit most from the process will be selected. There will be one reading per month from February 2023 to June 2023.

Our Ticket Office is open from 10am Tuesday Saturday and closes 15mins after the last show of the day commences. On non show days the ticket office closes at 2.30pm on Tuesday and Saturday and 6pm Wednesday Friday.

Covid Safety - Buy With Confidence

Although restrictions around COVID 19 have now been eased, please be assured that the safety of our audiences, staff and artists is of paramount importance to us. Therefore:

• We will continue to implement an enhanced cleaning regime between shows.

• We will be using e tickets which can be checked hands free. You can either print off or present your ticket for scanning on your phone.

• Hand sanitiser will be available upon entry and exit and within the venue.

• A Socially Distanced seating section will be available where possible; please check our website for details.

• Receive a credit or refund if a show is postponed or cancelled

Our Ticket Office will ask when you book if you would like to receive further information from us about The Core’s events and activities. We will then record your wishes and use them to inform what you receive from us in future. Transaction Fee

We charge a £1.50 per transaction fee for telephone and website bookings of £15 and over. This does not apply in person or to Friends, Groups and Disabled Patrons.

As ticket revenue is divided between many different parties, an increase in ticket prices may not necessarily benefit The Core. By adding a small transaction charge, we ensure that every penny of this goes to your local venue and the projects we run with local communities and young people.

Returns And Exchanges

We want to reassure you that our policy for refunds and exchanges has been amended to support the guidelines for Covid 19. If a show is cancelled, you will be able to choose a refund, exchange or credit note for the value of your tickets.

The Small Print

All concessions are subject to availability and should be checked at time of booking. Proof of status will be required. Please note that not all concessions are available with online booking. Access

The Core at Corby Cube is an accessible venue. The lifts from ground floor to all levels of the auditorium are at reduced capacity so are reserved for use by those with access needs.

Spaces for wheelchairs are available together with adjacent seats in the auditoria for companions or carers.

Parking for Blue Badge holders is available adjacent to Corby Cube. Guide Dogs are welcome. There is an induction loop or wireless hard of hearing system for all performances. Wireless headsets are available by request when you get your tickets scanned upon entry. If you have not done so yet, please register with our free Access Scheme. By taking a few minutes to tell us about your specific requirements, our staff and volunteers can ensure your tickets and seats fit your needs perfectly, leaving you free to relax and enjoy your visit.

The Core is situated within easy reach of the train station, all the main bus routes and road links, and a stone’s throw from Willow Place Shopping Centre. The entrance is located on George Street.

Car Parking

Parking is available right next door to Corby Cube and Corby East Midlands International Swimming Pool. If this is full, we suggest the Victoria Place car park as a suitable alternative.

Please note that an evening parking charge of 20p applies from 6pm – midnight, Monday – Saturday inclusive. Sunday parking is free all day/evening.
