The Core at Corby Cube at the Highland Gathering Sun 13 July
Join the team from The Core at this year’s Highland Gathering. You’ll find us along the main walkway just down from The White Hart Pub. There’s plenty of activities to take part in, including a music and drama workshop with India’s Bread n Butter Entertainment, dance workshops from Wriggle Dance Theatre and Moves, fun drama activities with Corby Young Actors and family crafts activities for younger children.
Live Bolero As part of the The Big Dance Weekend we’d love you to join us to watch and take part in Live Bolero, a high-energy community dance combining contemporary and street music. To celebrate 30 years since Torvill and Dean’s Olympic Gold Medal winning performance in Sarajevo, Jeanefer Jean-Charles (choreographer of London 2012’s opening ceremony) has created a unique dance for all, but this time not on ice!
You can take part too! People from Corby’s communities will perform Live Bolero at the Highland Gathering and you can take part too. It’s easy – simply email stuart@dance4.co.uk and on Mon 30 June you will be sent a video link to a short dance routine to learn, or find it at www.thecorecorby.com. You can also join us at an open workshop on the day with Moves choreographer Leah Waterfield if you want to practice ahead of the performance.

Contacting The World On Tour 2014 Tue 15 July 7pm
India’s Bread n Butter Entertainment headline an evening of inspirational new drama, direct from pioneering international theatre festival, Contacting The World. Created in collaboration with young performers from Corby, Bread n Butter Entertainment from Mumbai explore the idea that the things around us that matter the most are the ones that are most forgotten. Their new show will combine the group’s diverse talents of poetry, song, beat-boxing, martial arts, dance and stand-up. The evening includes a performance of Truth Light Bliss from Corby Young Actors, a celebration of power, potential and pursuit of our dreams, with movement, music, drama and spoken word. Inspired by an ancient mantra ‘Satta-Chitta-Ananda’ (Truth Enlightenment Bliss) sent from India to Corby by twin company Bread n Butter Entertainment, Corby Young Actors have explored politics, philosophy, poetry and their place within a bigger world to create this bold, original performance. The evening will also feature a short performance by Core Company, The Core’s Youth Theatre for ages 11-15. Suitable for ages 12+

Priority
Thu 17 July 7pm Two exciting, original dramas created by Wadzanai with Kuumba Nia Arts and Tribes Youth Club with Aga Serugo-Lugo. Priority, developed by The Core and supported by The Mighty Creatives, gives young people the chance to design their own project and choose the artists they want to make it with them. The evening will also feature performances by The Core’s Musical Theatre and Sparks groups. Tribes Youth Club present:
Core Blimey – A Corby Love Story Core Blimey is a musical about love, mobsters, and pasta meatballs. The story follows Gino, an Italian Londoner who tries to escape his shady past by travelling to Corby. Upon his arrival he meets Poppy, a local florist, and thus ensues a whirlwind romance. But, what was it in Gino’s past that he wanted to escape? Who is it that has the red crazy hair? When will they get those pasta meatballs? Tribes Youth Club is a group made up of enthusiastic and positive learning disabled individuals (aged 18-26) and volunteers. The atmosphere is warm and sociable and for many group members meeting up is their favourite thing in the week. The group hold regular social events with support from carers and volunteers and have previously worked with artists from The Core and Bamboozle. The art forms that most excite them are music and dance. Wadzanai present:
Chosen Generation ‘Open your heart, hear, feel and rejoice, for you were once strangers in the land of Egypt.’ In West Africa, the storyteller (Griot) is responsible for keeping the record of the tradition and history of its group of people. This responsibility also leads to ensuring this history and tradition is passed on from generation to generation. As Zimbabweans, living in Britain amongst all our modern technological gadgets, how do we learn from the past to build a different future? Chosen Generation deals with belonging and identity and the effects a place has on people as well as how people affect a place. Wadzanai Project aims to create a bond among African young people in Corby through art, music and dance, encouraging them to appreciate their heritage and culture. The project also aims to be a bridge between the group and other local young people, raising their confidence, increasing their sense of belonging and encouraging community cohesion.
Tickets £6 (includes both shows)
