Grow 2019 is the second in a series of outdoor festivals commissioned by Made in Corby and co-produced with The Core at Corby Cube funded by Arts Council England through the National Lottery. As Corby is one of the fastest growing boroughs outside of London, the festivals are aptly inspired by themes of water, light and food – all essential ingredients for growth. We especially want to thank our Grow Festival Community Panel, and the many local people volunteering their time to make the festival happen – we couldn’t have done it without you. Throughout the weekend, and afterwards online, there will be opportunities to give a small donation to help us keep the festival free for everyone. Please give whatever you are able to. And remember to follow us online to be the first to hear details of Grow 2020!

Thu 25 – Sat 27 July OF ALL THE PEOPLE IN ALL THE WORLD Stan’s Cafe

MR LUCKY’S PARTY Willow Place

Stan’s Cafe offers a grain of truth about our planet: every grain of rice represents someone, somewhere. For this beautifully simple performance installation visitors are invited to put their questions and suggestions to the artists who then build small and large mounds of rice representing the political and social realities in the world. By making normally abstract statistics tangible and placing them in thoughtful relation to each other, this powerful work of art is witty, shocking and ultimately moving. 11am – 5pm

A three day pop up shop like no other

Avanti Display

During a tea party a couple begin a celebration, party hats and even a cake appear, however with each course the weather worsens, the downpour increases and their mood blackens. Imagine yourself in Blackpool’s tower ballroom, with an evocative 1940’s soundtrack, a couple, at first irritated with each other are eventually reconciled and transformed in typical Avanti style with a bizarre, spectacular and unexpected twist. 12pm & 2.45pm

Compost Mentis features a large compost heap, set in a small allotment, and the Gardener who looks after it. Their relationship begins to break down when he discovers that the compost heap has developed a life of its own, and harbours thoughts fermenting within. BERYL & CYRIL’S GREAT BARNSLEY BAKE OFF

BOOM BIKE BOURRÉE Various Locations

A multi-sensory installation of multiple beehives all hiding a unique, unexpected interior world engaging spectators through taste, smell and touch as well as sight and hearing. Audiences wander amongst the honey-perfumed Bee Colony, occasionally cloaked in smoke, finding a variety of ways to view and interact with the contents. In each there is a surprising conceptual twist, which challenges, charms and confounds expectations – you may find yourself looking into the vastness of space or teased by a telescopic hive soaring into the air. The installation is tended by ethereal beekeepers and atmospherically lit when performed at night. The Bees investigates the complex symbiotic relationship humans have with bees. It is beautiful, humorous and thought provoking.
