WELCOME
We are delighted to announce our Orchestral Season is back for 2023/24 as we welcome the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) and introduce two magnificent additions to our programme with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RPLO) and Sinfonia Viva
This electrifying season commences in July with Sinfonia Viva, when the award-winning conductor Delyana Lazarova brings her dynamic conducting style for the first time to Northampton in one of Beethoven’s most revered works, his Symphony No.3, ‘Eroica’
40 years since they first performed on the Derngate stage the RLPO joins forces with cellist Pablo Ferrández and their Chief Conductor Domingo Hindoyan in Dvořák’s lyrical Cello Concerto. This must-see concert concludes with Brahms’ hall of fame classic, his Symphony No.4
Last, but certainly not least, is the return of the RPO who bring to Northampton a refreshed series of concerts featuring popular classics from Elgar’s Enigma Variations, to Dvořák’s most ever-green of symphonies, his Symphony No.9 ‘From the New World’

Conductor Delyana Lazarova brings her dynamic and electrifying conducting style to Northampton with Sinfonia Viva, the orchestra of the East Midlands, in one of Beethoven’s most celebrated works. Beethoven’s Symphony No.3 is a bold musical statement that revels in drama and flamboyance, igniting the spark for what became the Romantic period.
Exciting young Israeli pianist Ariel Lanyi joins the orchestra for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.20. A piece very much admired by Beethoven, the concerto is an inspiring statement of musical joy, brought to life by the intense virtuosity of Lanyi’s precise and lyrical playing.

Conductor Shiyeon Sung
Cello Zlatomir Fung (RPO Artist-in-Residence 2023/24)
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra continue their 2023/24 season with a piece made famous by bread (of all things!), known as the music from Hovis’ ‘Boy on the Bike’ adverts. Written during a trip to America, it combines Dvořák’s signature Czech rhythms with the sounds of American spirituals.
RPO Artist-in-Residence Zlatomir Fung performs Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C major. Unearthed in 1961, two centuries after it was written, it swiftly gained popularity for its sense of joy and optimism from the cello’s triumphant opening chord in the first movement. Virtuosic and vivacious displays of musical agility are heard in the rapturous third movement with its dancing melody shared between the soloist and Orchestra.

TICKETS FROM £17
Verdi Requiem
Conductor Adrian Partington
Northampton Bach Choir
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra finish their 2023/24 season in Northampton with the Northampton Bach Choir in a performance of Verdi’s dramatic choral masterpiece.
Dies irae, dies illa… Trumpets blast, drums thunder and a mighty chorus cries out in terror. A Requiem is a service for the dead, but there was never any chance that an old fighter like Giuseppe Verdi would go quietly into the night. Sure enough, his huge Requiem mass has been called the grandest opera he never wrote: thrillingly dramatic, blazing with emotion and conceived on an absolutely gigantic scale.
Conducted by Adrian Partington, this performance is a chance to hear this fantastic piece that you cannot miss!
