ELGAR’S CELLO CONCERTO SUN 3 NOVEMBER 3PM VAUGHAN WILLIAMS Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis ELGAR Cello Concerto ROSSINI The Italian Girl in Algiers Overture MENDELSSOHN Symphony No.4, ‘Italian’ Valentina Peleggi Conductor Jamal Aliyev Cello This concert is a perfect marriage of English and Italian orchestral favourites. Mendelssohn’s buoyant and cheerful Symphony No.4, ‘Italian’ closes this concert with panache and flair; a charming expression of how Italy made him feel. This concert feels lush and soulful, with a generous dose of energy. Tickets: From £11

LINKED ACTIVITY RPO RESOUND For 25 years, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s award-winning community and education programme, RPO Resound, has delivered music-led learning projects in a range of settings across the UK, in support of local communities and regional education, health, and cultural priorities. Since 2002, RPO Resound has worked in collaboration with schools, music hubs and local community organisations to bring creative music-making, performance and professional training opportunities to thousands of children and young people across Northamptonshire. In 2017, in partnership with Orchestras Live, the RPO brought the national Sound Around to Royal & Derngate for a series of sold-out schools and relaxed concerts, planned, produced and presented by a team of 16 Young Producers of mixed-ability from Abbeyfield School. The concerts included performances by students from local secondary, primary and special schools alongside the RPO, and reached audiences of more than 3000. This year, the RPO will be working with Northampton Music and Performing Arts Trust (NMPAT) to deliver a number of creative composition projects and performances involving young people with special educational needs and disabilities, alongside very special family-based afternoon workshops at Royal & Derngate. All of the projects are inherently participant-led, and aim to deliver experiences that are impactful, meaningful and transformational. The majority of our programmes are delivered free to participants, funded by a combination of trusts, grants and donations, with a notable amount of in-kind support provided by the Orchestra and it’s project partners.

FREE PRE-CONCERT TALKS We are delighted once again to welcome BBC Radio Northampton’s John Griff as the host of our popular free pre‑concert talks. These take place in the Derngate auditorium prior to the concerts – please see the individual pages 4-10 for times and guest speakers.

DON’T FORGET TO PRE-ORDER YOUR PROGRAMMES Orchestral Season Ticket subscribers are entitled to discounts on their programmes. To benefit from these discounts, please pre-order your programmes when booking your Season Ticket.
