WORLD-CLASS THEATRE A ROYAL & DERNGATE, NORTHAMPTON AND ENGLISH TOURING THEATRE CO‑PRODUCTION

“This unique and deeply moving story speaks directly to many of the urgent questions we face in our society today, portraying characters grappling with challenges well beyond their control” James Dacre, Artistic Director

There’s a controversial new president in the White House, and racial tensions are on the rise. It is Pittsburgh, 1969, and the regulars of Memphis Lee’s restaurant are struggling to cope with the turbulence of a rapidly changing world. The diner is in threat of being torn down, a casualty of the city’s renovation project that is sweeping away the buildings of a community, but not its spirit. The iconic American playwright August Wilson paints a vivid portrait of everyday lives in this defining moment of American history. When Two Trains Running opened on Broadway in 1992, its legendary premiere won Tony and Drama Desk Awards. Directed by the 2018 winner of the RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award, Nancy Medina, this major revival will introduce this Pulitzer Prize shortlisted modern classic to UK-wide audiences for the first time.

MADE IN NORTHAMPTON A ROYAL & DERNGATE NORTHAMPTON AND YORK THEATRE ROYAL CO-PRODUCTION

“A powerful production of Arthur Miller’s evocative masterpiece set against the backdrop of the 1950s Brooklyn waterfront captures and explores life in America after the war” James Dacre, Artistic Director

In 1950s New York, respected longshoreman Eddie Carbone lives a life of seeming stability with his wife and niece in a tight knit, immigrant community bound by moral codes of justice and honour. The surprise arrival of his Sicilian cousins unravels all that they have built together as the young men search out work, wealth and love. In the shadows of Brooklyn Bridge, the American Dream is but a shimmering mirage in Arthur Miller’s Tony Award-winning timeless play. Following the success of our 2015 Made In Northampton production of Arthur Miller’s The Hook, we return to the Brooklyn longshore in an epic production directed by Juliet Forster (Sense And Sensibility) and featuring a community chorus.

A PLAY ABOUT GROWING UP. WITH FOOD.

DIRECT FROM THE WEST END

A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul.

Coming to Northampton after a critically-acclaimed West End run, Toast vividly recreates food writer and journalist Nigel Slater’s childhood through the tastes and smells he shares with his mother, culminating in the young Nigel’s escape to London.

Join the millions of theatre goers worldwide who have experienced “The most brilliantly effective spine-chiller you will ever encounter” (Daily Telegraph).

From making the perfect sherry trifle, through the playground politics of sweets, the rigid rules of restaurant dining, and a domestic war over cakes, this is an evocative tale of love, loss and... toast.

Susan Hill’s acclaimed ghost story comes dramatically alive in Stephen Mallatratt’s ingenious stage adaptation. This gripping production, directed by Robin Herford, is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror. “A MARVELLOUS EXERCISE IN TENSION, SPUN FROM PERFECTLY PACED STORYTELLING” THE INDEPENDENT
