RAMBERT AND THE ROYAL BALLET PRESENT
AISHA AND ABHAYA Royal & Derngate is thrilled to welcome the return of Rambert, who bring us an intense, intoxicating theatrical rush, fusing dance, film, sound and music. The company’s fearless dancers take centre stage to perform Sharon Eyal’s fierce, pulsating choreography to an original soundtrack of driving techno from Ori Lichtik and GAIKA. Director Kibwe Tavares brings this together with a vast film fantasy, thick with atmosphere. Sisters Aisha and Abhaya are seeking refuge from a violent homeland. We encounter them washed ashore in a strange land; a fireside ritual; Blade Runner-style cityscapes; and a huge augmented-reality Spirit.

Multi award-winning, with a spectacularly successful sound-track storming charts across the globe, this sell-out Tudor take-off has “an incredibly strong and powerful message”, is “boundary-pushing, genre-redefining” (The Australian) and is ‘pure entertainment’ (The New York Times). From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing 500 years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st century girl power. Theatre as live as it gets. Witness a new show unfold every night! You want to know a secret? The best bits of any show, you never get to see: beautiful moments of discovery, fresh minted gags, a story coming alive for the first time – all this happens in the rehearsal room. Less of a secret is that you never see the worst: dead ends, duff choices, bits that don’t fit. But what if we let you in on the secret and put them ALL on the stage: triumphs, disasters, the wonderful and the what-the-hell? How? By improvising from scratch a new show made especially for the audience that night. Story, song and puppetry conjured from the unlikeliest materials by matchless performers and every moment of creation (or lack of it) witnessed by you. Definitely not an attempt to improvise the “classic” musical but an unapologetic experiment in starting with nothing and seeing where we end up. Improbable are maestros of improvised theatre, who for three decades have created make-it-up-as-you-go-along shows that have captivated audiences across the world from off-Broadway to the National Theatre. It might be hilarious or heart-breaking, anarchic or eerily atmospheric but their first ever improvised musical aims to spin theatrical magic out of thin air. This is essential viewing for anyone who likes their theatre as live as it gets. This production has been made with the support of Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence fund.

Cinderella Snow Maiden The Nutcracker
Join the renowned Russian State Ballet of Siberia as they perform three exquisite ballets on the Derngate stage in the New Year. Cinderella, the world’s favourite rags to riches fairy-tale where dreams can come true is a magical mix of Prokofiev’s energetic score, lively choreography and colourful costumes. Set in the snow-covered landscape of the Russian countryside, seasonal sparkler Snow Maiden follows the maiden as she dances into the human world, ventures too far and is swept up by feelings of love, temptation and betrayal. The most famous of fantasy ballets for all the family, The Nutcracker whisks us off at the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve to a fairy-tale world where nothing is quite as it seems, to an enchanted place where the magic really begins.

A study of fathers and sons and the stories we don’t always tell one another. Directed by Jude Christian, this timely and intimate work from award-winning playwright Barney Norris (The Remains Of The Day) and his father, the internationally acclaimed pianist and broadcaster David Owen Norris, examines that age-old story of a boy and his dad, and how they can relate to one another, in every sense of the word. An intimate, autobiographical exploration of their relationship, The Wellspring takes us inside the complex and shifting dynamic between this particular father and son, exploring the people and stories that shape us. Seemingly delighted with the situation, the pair agree to share the responsibilities of governing their new kingdom until it can be ascertained which of them is the King, but matters become more complicated when the Duke and Duchess of Plaza Toro arrive and reveal that their beautiful daughter, Casilda, was married to the future King as an infant. Alan’s back on the road with a brand-new stand-up show Regional Trinket. From the exhilarating high of his starstudded wedding day to the low of lockdown stuck on a farm, a lot has changed since Alan’s last tour four years ago, including Alan.
This is a show about grief. This is a show about loss. Just not how you’d expect. Dance Like It Never Happened is the funniest, most joyful and uplifting show you will ever see about feeling totally bereaved. In 2019, we lost another election, our place in Europe and, worst of all, a dearly beloved friend. We are no strangers to grief, but it hurt. Then in 2020, we all lost the world as we knew it. Our decades-long system of “dealing with emotions” (ignore them, drink heavily and make jokes) finally broke. We finally broke. In their most honest & personal show yet, Jonny & The Baptists learn to accept and engage with their grief, telling the story of denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance through their trademark blend of silly, joyful songs, deadpan stand-up and riotous storytelling.
Looking to put your brand in the spotlight and have a great night out along the way? We’ve got just the ticket. Whether you’re interested in staff recognition, client entertaining, or unique ways to increase your brand exposure, a business club membership is a great way to get involved!

A huge thank you too to our staff and creative and production teams for their incredible efforts in bringing our building to life once again.
We understand many audience members will be coming back to the venue for the first time in a while this Winter. We want to reassure you that it is our absolute priority to ensure that our theatre and filmhouse spaces remain as Covid‑safe, accessible and welcoming as possible for all of our audiences, staff and artists.

Touch free hand sanitising points are available around the building and we encourage you to use these as you enter. The wearing of face coverings is strongly recommended, especially while moving around inside the venue. Not only is this a courtesy to your fellow audience members but in doing so, you continue to prioritise the safety of our essential front line staff. They will all continue to wear face coverings. In line with our ‘Book with Confidence, Exchange with Ease’ pledge, adopted in conjunction with UK Theatre, if you cannot attend a performance due to Covid, our Box Office team will be happy to exchange your tickets to another performance or issue a credit note up to 24 hours prior to the show. All transactions at our theatre bars are cashless and paperless, with perspex screens fitted at teh Box Office.
If you have any access requirements, please alert us when you arrive so we are able to help accommodate you appropriately and help avoid any unnecessary queuing. We are continuing to offer some entirely socially distanced performances, as well as socially distanced sections of the auditoria for some performances; Contact Box Office on 01604 624811 or via email at boxoffice@ royalandderngate.co.uk for further information. We are using e-tickets which can be checked hands free. If your tickets were carried over from an earlier rescheduled date you will receive a new updated set to the email address on your account no later than 48 hours before the show. You can either print these off or present them for scanning on your phone. We are encouraging patrons to bring as few personal belongings as possible. Do make sure you have something warm to wear – our increased ventilation and airflow means it may feel a few degrees cooler than normal. We are proud to be a See It Safely accredited venue, in association with Society of London Theatres and UK Theatre.

GETTING HERE
ACCESS TICKETING SCHEME
Our Box Office is open from 10am until 15 minutes after the last performances commences Tuesday-Saturday. Counter service is available from 12noon. On Sundays, Mondays and Bank Holidays it is open in person only from 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to the first performance commencing. We are now a cash-free venue, in order to reduce contact at our bars and Box Office. We accept all major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay. You can also pay with National Theatre Tokens or Royal & Derngate gift vouchers.
As ticket revenue is divided between many different parties, an increase in ticket prices may not necessarily benefit the theatre. By adding a transaction charge, we ensure that every penny goes directly to Royal & Derngate. We will continue to tell you about these charges when you book tickets with us.
Royal & Derngate, 19-21 Guildhall Rd, Northampton NN1 1DP

By confirming your requirements, we can ensure that your tickets and seating are taken care of, leaving you free to relax and enjoy the show. To request an application form please call the Box Office, email access@royalandderngate. co.uk or visit www.royalandderngate.co.uk/access.
