Corby Young Artists Double Bill

To Sleep (A Chance To Dream) – Corby Young Actors Le Debut – Corby Young Dancers Fri 12 & Sat 13 April

This exhilarating evening features two original productions, created by Corby Young Actors and Corby Young Dancers with writer-director Stephanie Ridings (Birmingham Rep, Royal Exchange Theatre) and internationally-acclaimed choreographer Mickael Marso Riviere (Company Decalage, B-boy’s Attic). Following last year’s personal and powerful Manifesto, Corby Young Actors present To Sleep (A Chance To Dream), a nostalgic, playful and

highly visual take on life, death and all the bits in-between. Three Billy Pigs Noisy Oyster

Suggs My Life Story

Sat 13 April

Wed 24 April

Once upon a time there were three little pigs... and now it is time for them to leave home. They set off to build their dream houses in the green field on the other side of the river.

Madness frontman Suggs takes to the stage in an hilarious, yet moving, one man tour de force, playing to rave reviews.

But then these homes are put to the test by a misunderstood wolf who has a little bit of a problem. And who is the grumpy person who lives under the bridge? Noisy Oyster blend two classic fairy tales, The Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, with beautifully crafted puppets, light‑hearted storytelling and live music.

Time: 11am & 2pm Tickets: £5.50 Running Time: 45mins Suitability: Ages 3+ Venue: The Lab 8

The death of Suggs’ beloved cat on his 50th birthday triggers a personal quest to discover what happened to the father he never knew. Stunned by what he learns, Suggs is taken back to his childhood on the tough streets of 1970s Soho and his first appearance on Top Of The Pops at the age of 18. Is it a play? Is it stand up comedy? Is it Music Hall? Whatever it is, hold on to your seats. HHHH Daily Telegraph HHHH The Times HHHH Time Out Time: 7.30pm Tickets: £25 Concessions: £23 Venue: The Theatre

Puppetry Of The Penis

Josh Widdicombe and Seann Walsh Double Bill

Sat 4 May

Thu 9 May

Delivering an unforgettable evening of comic brilliance to sell-out performances around the world, this mind-blowing show features two strapping Australians who manipulate their genitals into various shapes, objects and landmarks. A video camera projects intimate details of these incredible phenomena onto a large screen ensuring that little can be missed!

Josh Widdicombe’s (Live At The Apollo, Stand Up For The Week, Last Leg With Adam Hills) upbringing in a tiny Devon village didn’t prepare him for the realities of life – but it helped him write observational comedy with a touch of pedantry. Hankering for the bright lights but finding the reality irritatingly disappointing, Josh gets full comedy value from observations and dilemmas we can all relate to.

This new show features firm favourites such as the Hamburger, the Wristwatch and the Windsurfer and is guaranteed to tickle parts you never knew you had. WARNING: Puppetry Of The Penis is a non-sexual show featuring full frontal male nudity.

Time: 7.30pm Tickets: £21 Concessions: £19 Suitability: Ages 16+ Venue: The Theatre 10

Charming, charismatic and a natural motor-mouth, Seann Walsh is the most frighteningly precocious talent to emerge from the UK comedy circuit in ages. Seann’s been on Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and is now a team captain on Argumental. Time: 7.30pm Tickets: £14.50 Concessions: £12.50 Suitability: Ages 14+ Venue: The Theatre

Stuck Big Wooden Horse

The Sherry Babys

Sat 11 May

Thu 16 May

Oliver Jeffers, award-winning author of How To Catch A Star, Lost And Found and The Way Back Home, returns with a brand new tale about a little boy in a very sticky situation.

This Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons tribute tells of the remarkable rise to stardom of one of the most successful bands in pop music history.

It all begins when Floyd gets his kite stuck in a tree. He throws up his shoe to shift it, but that gets stuck, so he throws up his other shoe and that gets stuck too. Along with the cat, a ladder, a pot of paint, the kitchen sink, an orang-utan and a whale, amongst other things!

Discover how four New Jersey boys from the wrong side of the tracks invented their own unique sound, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and sold 100 million records worldwide.

Will Floyd ever get his kite back? This exciting new production for families and young children is from the team behind the shows The Night Before Christmas and last year’s smash hit The Way Back Home. Time: 11am & 2pm Tickets: £9.50 Concessions: £7.50 Running Time: 50mins Suitability: Ages 3+ Venue: The Theatre

Warning: This show has already left some people feeling ‘a little bit dirty’; contains some brief nudity (long enough to see ‘the works’); contains some brief dancing (silly and emotional); contains some puerile songs (there’s a good one about a shed). Loved by audiences and critics alike New Art Club return with another beautifully engineered blend of physical and verbal lunacy. There’s A Monster In My Piano Sat 29 June

What do you do when you hear a strange munching noise inside a piano? Call the Piano Doctor, of course! He might be able to help with his bag full of ears and his collection of weird and wonderful tools. But when he looks inside, the musical notes are packing their bags and running away. What are they scared of and who is hammering at the keys? A delightfully offbeat, jazzy tale for children, featuring puppets, clowning, animation and a very highly strung monster indeed.

Education

Schools Partnerships

Teachers’ Forum Thu 25 April 4pm-6pm

The Core regularly works with primary and secondary schools to deliver projects and one off workshops. Increasingly, however, we are developing longer term, structured partnerships with schools and colleges for a full academic year. Programmes are tailored to each partner’s specific needs, but often include workshops, projects and training for a range of departments – during curriculum time and after school – alongside visits to The Core. We are always keen to work with new partners and would welcome the opportunity to discuss a partnership with your school or college. Please email education@thecorecorby.com or call 01536 470 473.

32

Our termly Teachers’ Forums for primary, secondary and FE educators are a great way to meet The Core team and network with artists and colleagues from other institutions. You will find out about local initiatives, funding opportunities, forthcoming shows and residencies at The Core and in the community. We often work with partners such as Arts In Education, Dance4 and The Mighty Creatives to ensure events are inspiring, relevant and informative. The next forum will be Thursday 25 April at 4pm and is open to anyone working within an educational setting in Northamptonshire and neighbouring counties. If you would like to know more, please email education@thecorecorby.com or call 01536 470 473.

Community Schools Workshops This season, we have the following workshops available to schools and colleges alongside performances at The Core:

Playgrounds Dance Mon 3 – Fri 7 June The University of Northampton’s resident company creating dance for young audiences is offering schools and colleges a two hour workshop exploring the key elements that universities look for in prospective students and working on repertoire from their performances on Friday 14 & Saturday 15 June (See p.15), including creating dance alongside film and media.

Dean Atta Thu 4 & Fri 5 July One of the UK’s most in demand spoken word poets is available to lead creative writing workshops, tailored to the needs of you and your students. If desired, a programme can be developed which provides an opportunity for your students to perform their work at The Core. To book a workshop or for more information, please email education@thecorecorby.com or call 01536 470 473.
