Welcome to the SE region January 2023 Newsletter

Another year has passed and the new year is upon us. Despite the many things going on in the world there is a lot to look forward to in 2023. Photography in general continues to change and, in my opinion, improve, but the real constant in the so many stunning opportunities that the world gives us to photograph. The end of the year always produces sets of stunning pictures in the newspapers representing the year just past. Their sheer variety and quality leave me in awe and inspired to take better pictures in the year to come.
Enough of the philosophy; may I simply wish you all a Happy New Year from all of us on the SE Regional committee.
I am trying a few different things this issue and in future issues. Keep any feedback coming please, it really helps.
• Now all of Celia’s events are under the general guise of DIG, we do not have so many events to talk about, so I am including the links to all events in the main part of the newsletter as well as the appendix, (which is only available in ISSUU).
• Once CRM is sorted, it will generate lists of members in the region who’ve joined and others who have gained a distinction. I will include this as soon as they are available.
The general format of the newsletter will be:
• Introduction and pictures. Please send me any images you think might appeal to others
• What has happened in the SE region since the last newsletter
• Planned events for the next 6 months in the SE region and a taste of future events
• Other news in the region
• Hello to new members, (when information permits)
• Congratulations to new distinction holders, (when information permits)
December was not a busy month. Celia finally finished her courses and we simply concentrated on putting together a programme for 2023.

Here is the list of events until July:
SE event programme
15/02/2023 Black and White (digital) Photography led by Bill Brooks
26/03/2023 The Hothouse at Wisley - click event led by Nigel Chapman
03/04/2023 Restoring Old Photographs led by Roger Crocombe
14/04/2023 Tulips of Arundel - click event led by Celia Henderson
07/05/2023 Bluebell Photo Workshop (no link yet) led by Paul Burgess
10/05/2023 WWT wildlife - click event (no link yet) led by Paul Stillman
13/06/2023
Lullingstone Castle & Lullingstone World Garden - click event (no link yet) led by Paul Burgess
A click event means there is no charge by the RPS SE, just the entry to the event if applicable. We only put it on our website to get an idea of numbers and where to meet.
Do check out the details on the website for the events in blue. For the rest, we will have more details next month on times and places, however here are a few details:
The Arundel click event link is actually to the Arundel web site. If you like Tulips, then do come along. Even though Celia Henderson teaches Photoshop, she is a pretty mean photographer as well. Celia will be there and I’m sure will not mind sharing some of her expertise!
Hopefully the bluebells will be in their prime from the 7th May when Paul Burgess will be leading a workshop on how to photograph these beautiful, but difficult to capture, flowers.
The Arundel Wetland centre is another click event that should be amazing. Here is a link to their website which shows the large variety of things to see.
Finally, Lullingstone castle, between Sevenoaks and Dartford, also looks a great place to visit with not only a Manor House, but a beautiful World Garden as well.
The rest of 2023 events have a more fluid date:
18/06/2023
Celebration of distinctions (no link) led by Andy Moore
14/07/2023 Distinction LRPS advisory day (no link) led by Viveca Koh
28/07/2023 Distinction ARPS advisory day (no link) led by Viveca Koh
13/08/2023 Broadstairs Folk Week led by John Gough
11/10/2023 Birds of Prey workshop (no link) led by Paul Stillman
I did talk about the Celebration of Distinctions last month, but unfortunately have no further news from the RPS as yet. Viveca Koh has kindly agreed to run an online LRPS advisory day, but it makes sense to run this post the celebration event.
The Broadstairs folk week is always packed full of groups, solo artists and is a vibrant place to be. The link is to the event website.
The Birds of Prey workshop at Lingfield will be on the website next month. It will be priced at £110, which is very competitive.
So, thank you for your support in 2022 and we look forward to seeing you in 2023. Next month I hope to add a welcome list of new members and a congratulations list to those obtaining a distinction.
Paul Burgess, on the RPS SE committee, has his own website:
In particular, he has a page dedicated to RPS distinction related courses: (Click here to access) Paul is based in Sevenoaks, but most of his courses are online. Do use code RPSLESS10 at the checkout for your 10% discount.
