The town of Stonehaven lies fifteen miles from the City of Aberdeen and is on the main road and rail routes to the south. While it is close to the city, Stonehaven has maintained its own distinctive character. It is a popular coastal resort.

Agroup of photographers from the Royal Photographic Society visited the town during May 2024 on a day with bright sunlight but with a cool wind. Starting in the northern part of Stonehaven Bay they made their way south to the harbour before returning through the town to their starting point.
