Thoreau’smusingsarefromjust13yearsafterthe dawnofphotographyasweknowitandonehasto wonderhowlifewaslikeinthosetimesifonehad sufficienttimetonotedownthoughtseveryday withouthavingtofuelthemastersoftheIndustrial Revolution.
ThethoughtsthatThoreaupennedhaveadirectlink tomakingphotographicimages.Hisobviouspowers ofobservationformacriticalaspecttomaking contemporaryphotographybynotingandpositing thethingsthatcaughthiseyeanbrain.
Inearlierpartsofthejournalhenotesthemarestail skies.Seafarershaveforeonsnotedtheeffectofsky presentationonimpendingweatherandsea conditions.Hisattentiontodetailisworthyofmeritin makingbodiesofworkthataremadeinopenspaces.
