Bhangarh- the most haunted place in Rajasthan Bhangarh is one of the most haunted places of the country, Bhangarh is perhaps the greatest unsolved mystery. Location Bhangarh is a remote village of Rajasthan situated in the Rajgarh municipality of the Alwar district in Rajasthan. The place is situated at the edge of Sariska Tiger Reserve and lies between the cities of Jaipur and Delhi and hence its location on the route of the two most important tourist attractions of India is also a reason of its touristic viability.

Story of Bhangarh The natives of the place consider the place ghosted and this a belief carried amongst the people since generations. The locals are indulged in several stories of ghosts and spooky incidents which amplify the mystery of the place. Many researches and institutes


also have proved the presence of paranormal activities at the place. According to the most popular legend related to Bhangarh, the present condition of the state is due to an ascetic’s curse. The acetic who also was well versed in black magic fell in love with princess Ratnavati and wanted to marry her but seeing no chance he tried to cast a spell on the princess. To make the princess fall in love with him, one day he casted a spell on the bottle of perfume which was bought by princess’s maid for her. On knowing of the fact, Ratnavati threw the bottle which turned into the boulder and killed the acetic. Before he died, he cursed Ratnavati as well as the entire kingdom that everything will be crumbled into ruins. On the very next year, a battle was fought and the entire kingdom fell into pieces with not a single survivor.

There are many other Bhangarh stories as well that of Emperor Madhu Singh and Guru Bala Nath and few more. Nonetheless, all these stories culminate into the fact that nothing in the place could be built, if tried it mysteriously collapses and this is the reason the place seems abandoned and into ruins. Owing to these facts the entry to Bhangarh is restricted between sunset and sunrise by the Archeological Survey of India and is legally prohibited. Even the natives desert the place at after evening and the same applies to the tourists as well.

What to see? Despite of the numerous legends, nobody can determine whether the place is really haunted but the fact that remains is the place is


definitely worth a visit. The elaborate Bhangarh fort and the ruins of the former village set in the backdrop of hills are utterly fascinating. An empty road dotted with ruined buildings one both its sides telling tales of the past lead to the fort. Though in ruins, the fort comprises of three grand storeys to be explored after entering through a massive gateway. There is also a temple called Someshwara temple at the side with a stunning stepwell.
