Mehrangarh Fort of Jodhpur: A UNESCO World Heritage Site Mehrangarh Fort is an epitome of glory and royalty which is a pride of Jodhpur. The name of the fort was derived from Mehr-Garh, where Mehr means a “Sun” and Garh means a “Fort” (sun was believed as a god in the Rathore Dynasty). There are various legends which are surrounded in the Fort such as grand walls which were withstood during the battles. The history of Fort says that a solitary person who used to stay on that hill cursed Rao Jodha on being disturbed. The curse of the fort would face droughts. Many sacrifices were made by the human beings in the prevention of the king. It is said that four people were buried alive at the four corners of the Mehrangarh Fort. One more story which is associated with the history of the fort was that a man called Mehran was thrown alive from the hilltop.
