The alarm is going off but I’m still in fantasyland, burrowed into my fort of pillows and soft sheets. I hear the sound of waves and the call of sea birds and as I slowly begin to awake, I realize it is not a dream at all. I open my eyes, take a big stretch and smile. Reality is far better than my dreams, I’m waking up in my spacious suite at Grand Residences by Royal Resorts® and I have some big adventures planned for the week ahead with my teenage son. I can’t think of any place better than Puerto Morelos for an adventurous escape from our daily life and Grand Residences gives us a taste of luxury on our favourite secluded beach.

First things first, I shut off the alarm, brew up some coffee in the kitchen and shake my son awake. We don’t have many “rules” on vacation but we do have traditions and one of them is getting up early on the first and last mornings to see the sunrise. I have lived in the Mexican Caribbean for 17 years but a sunrise over the ocean never, ever, ever gets old. The sky is beginning to lighten, turning from blue and purple to orange and pink. The view from the balcony is wonderful but we want more and we make our way to the beach. There are a few other people up for the spectacle and as the sun rises up as a ball of fire, the air gets warmer and the sparkles on the sea shine like sapphires. We sit on the edge of the water and let our toes dip into the reflection of the sunrise, feeling relaxed and grateful for this moment of peace.

I knew that moment wouldn’t last long, I am traveling with a teenager after all but it was great while it lasted. The peace was broken by his “I’m hungry!” plea and I had to agree, it was definitely time to enjoy a Grand Residences gourmet breakfast. We indulged in a room service feast, our breakfasts on the balcony were perhaps some of my favorite moments of our Grand Residences stay, just me and my boy fueling up for the days of adventure ahead.

Suena la alarma, pero yo sigo soñando, escondida en mi fortaleza de almohadas y sábanas suaves. Escucho el sonido de las olas y el llamado de las aves marinas y mientras me despierto lentamente me doy cuenta que no se trata de un sueño. Abro mis ojos, me estiro y sonrío. La realidad es mucho mejor que mis sueños, me despierto en mi espaciosa suite en Grand Residences by Royal Resorts® y tengo planes para grandes aventuras para la semana junto con mi hijo adolescente. No hay mejor lugar que Puerto Morelos para un escape de nuestra vida diaria y Grand Residences nos ofrece una lujosa experiencia en nuestra apartada playa favorita.

Primero lo primero, apago la alarma, preparo un café en la cocina y despierto a mi hijo. No tenemos muchas “reglas” en las vacaciones, pero sí tenemos tradiciones y una de ellas es levantarnos temprano en la primera y última mañana para ver el amanecer. He vivido en el Caribe mexicano por 17 años pero nunca me deja de asombrar un amanecer sobre el mar. El cielo se empieza a iluminar, pasando del azul y púrpura al naranja y rosa. La vista desde el balcón es maravillosa pero aún queremos más y nos dirigimos a la playa. Hay otras personas admirando el espectáculo y mientras el sol se levanta como una bola de fuego, el aire se vuelve más cálido y los destellos del agua brillan como zafiros. Nos sentamos al borde del agua y dejamos que nuestros dedos se sumerjan en el reflejo del amanecer, sintiéndonos relajados y agradecidos por este momento de paz.

Sabía que ese momento no duraría mucho, después de todo estoy viajando con un adolescente, aunque estuvo genial mientras duró. La paz se rompió con su exclamación

There are so many fabulous adventures to be discovered, for the daring adrenaline seekers or the lovers of nature, there is a Puerto Morelos activity that will delight every kind of traveler.

The main attraction in Puerto Morelos is the nearby Mesoamerican Reef. This is part of the second largest reef system in the world and a snorkeling trip is a must do adventure. The Puerto Morelos reef is a protected area rich in coral gardens and marine life, snorkeling here you will be immersed in a magical world.

Our Grand Residences stay gave us the chance to explore the underwater world with a delightful snorkeling tour. Our captain and crew brought us to their secret spots and we snorkeled our way around the coral watching the multicolored fish dash and out of their hidden caves. Huge parrot fish, schools of French grunts and Sergeant Majors, angelfish and butterfly fish, lobsters, turtles and more, our snorkeling adventure was amazing!

A jungle excursion was next on our list and we were excited to explore the Ruta de Cenotes, “The Cenote Route” of Puerto Morelos. Cenotes are natural limestone sinkholes that are unique to the Yucatan Peninsula, some hidden in caves and others open to the sky. Cenotes were considered sacred by the ancient Maya, they are the entry to the underworld and the only source of freshwater in the region. Many of these cenotes are open to the public and are a great place to enjoy a refreshing swim and we often enjoy a drive with no fixed destination, looking for cenotes to explore. This trip we ended up at Cenote Kin Ha, a phenomenal underground cave of stalactites and stalagmites and crystalline waters.

de “¡Tengo hambre!” y ahí tuve que estar de acuerdo, definitivamente era el momento de disfrutar de un desayuno gourmet de Grand Residences. Nos consentimos con un festín de servicio a cuarto, nuestros desayunos en el balcón fueron quizás algunos de mis momentos favoritos de nuestra estancia en Grand Residences, sólo mi hijo y yo preparándonos para los días de aventuras que nos esperaban.

Cosas extraordinarias que hacer en Puerto Morelos

Grand Residences está ubicado en el corazón del paraíso natural del Caribe mexicano y es un fantástico punto de partida para emocionantes aventuras tropicales de todo tipo. Rodeado por selva, cavernas, manglares, océano y arrecifes, es el lugar ideal para volver a conectarse con la naturaleza y su lado salvaje. De día usted puede explorar como Indiana Jones o Jacques Cousteau y por la noche estará inmerso en el lujo y la comodidad y disfrutando como reyes. Durante nuestra estancia en Grand Residences exploramos el mundo submarino con un encantador tour de esnórquel. Nuestro capitán y la tripulación nos llevaron a sus sitios secretos e hicimos esnórquel alrededor del arrecife, observando los peces multicolores salir despavoridos de sus guaridas. Enormes peces loro, cardúmenes de chacchís y sargentos mayor, peces ángel y mariposa, langostas, tortugas y más, ¡nuestra aventura de esnórquel fue sensacional!

Lo siguiente en nuestra lista era una excursión en la selva y estábamos emocionados por explorar la Ruta de los Cenotes de Puerto Morelos. Los cenotes son oquedades en la roca caliza del suelo y exclusivos de la península de Yucatán, los hay ocultos en cuevas y otros a cielo abierto. Los cenotes eran considerados sagrados por los antiguos mayas, son la entrada al inframundo

Our week at Grand Residences was full of adventures, from visiting the Botanical Gardens and learning about the local fauna to a bird-watching excursion in the jungle. The resort feels like a luxurious home away from home, our adventurous souls were satisfied and when we weren’t seeking adrenaline we were pampered and treated to the finest things in life. The friendly staff made us feel welcome and we send them a special gracias for making this trip extraordinary from beginning to end. Muchos de estos cenotes están abiertos al público y son excelentes lugares para disfrutar de un fresco chapuzón y muchas veces disfrutamos un paseo sin algún destino fijo, buscando cenotes para explorar. En este paseo terminamos en el Cenote Kin Ha, una espectacular caverna subterránea con estalactitas y estalagmitas y aguas cristalinas.

La mejor manera de explorar la Ruta de los Cenotes desde Grand Residences es visitando uno de los muchos parques de aventuras que se encuentran en Puerto Morelos. El primero de la lista es Selvática, para aventuras extremas en la selva, tirolesas, vehículos todo terreno, saltos en bungee y desafiantes diversión sobre los árboles y un bello cenote con su propia tirolesa de aterrizaje en el agua y una plataforma para echarse un gran clavado. Para un divertido día con todo incluido, Xenotes es el lugar perfecto, sumergiéndose en cuatro diferentes cenotes en un fantástico día con un picnic gourmet y actividades como el esnórquel, kayak y saltar desde el acantilado de los valientes.

Nuestra semana en Grand Residences estuvo llena de aventuras, desde visitar el Jardín Botánico y aprender acerca de la fauna local hasta una excursión de observación de aves en la Ruta de los Cenotes. El resort se siente como un hogar de lujo lejos de casa, nuestras almas aventureras estaban satisfechas y cuando no buscábamos adrenalina nos trataban y consentían con las mejores cosas de la vida. El amable personal nos hizo sentir bienvenidos y les enviamos un agradecimiento especial por hacer este viaje extraordinario de principio a fin.
