CHICAGO is one of the most beloved and celebrated musicals of all time. Its infectious score, sizzling narrative and electrifying dance numbers are the perfect concoction for a fabulous night at the theatre! Murder, jazz, scandal…what more could you want?! It’s incredibly challenging too, allowing our most senior pupils to tackle complex and layered material. The style and feel of the show pushes our pupils out of their comfort zones and requires a maturity from them It has been wonderful to see how they have evolved throughout the past few months and have risen to the occasion.
You will all most likely know some of the standout numbers including All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango and Razzle Dazzle, and we hope you are excited to see our cast breathe new life into them! The themes of the pursuit of fame and intoxicating celebrity culture feel more prevalent than ever before, and whilst our diamante curtain may sparkle and blind you, underneath the veiled mask of glamour is an important message about fame and celebrity: it all comes at a cost CHICAGO is a satirical take on these themes and the pursuit of ‘The American Dream’. In the closing number, Velma declares, ‘We are the living examples of what a wonderful country this is.’ While she delivers this line with a sense of pride, the irony of the moment is unmistakable Velma and Roxie have committed heinous acts to become stars, yet the world they live in forgives them. The music and atmosphere may be joyous and celebratory, but its subtext is not.
We hope you are enthralled and entertained by all the razzle dazzle even if it’s all a lie!

It takes an army to put on a school production, so we would like to thank some key players for allowing this show to happen!
This includes the Senior Leadership team for all their support and encouragement; the Finance and Marketing teams for saying ‘YES’ to pretty much anything we needed; the Catering team for keeping us going, the Maintenance team for their assistance; our fellow colleagues for their excitement and support and a huge thank you to Katie Smith for all the incredible work she does with the Box Office.
Finally thank you to all the parents, guardians and families who allowed their children to take part.
