NEW ROLE SUPPORTS
freedom and responsibility in science THE SOCIETY IS THE NATIONAL MEMBER OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE COUNCIL (ISC) AND PROVIDES EXECUTIVE SECRETARIAL AND ADVISORY SUPPORT FOR THE ISC’S COMMITTEE ON FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITY IN SCIENCE (CFRS). THE COMMITTEE PROMOTES THE RIGHTS OF RESEARCHERS TO ENGAGE IN SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES AND THEIR CORRESPONDING DUTY TO PRACTISE SCIENCE RESPONSIBLY AND SHARE KNOWLEDGE IN A PUBLIC SPACE. The Society has increased its support for this work by creating a new role of Special Advisor to CFRS. The work will be a combination of monitoring and advising on global situations where scientific freedom is being denied, and providing guidance and support for researchers worldwide in understanding their responsibilities to science as a global public good.
