The town’s lively calendar includes a food festival, folk week and Dickens festival, and there are clubs representing a very wide range of interests. The traditional town centre features a pleasing mix of shops, including a Tesco, and mostly independent pubs and restaurants. The town also has parks, a museum, independent cinema, and

The cinema, housed in a Grade II listed building, shows family blockbusters as well as independent and art house films. Westwood Shopping Centre, about seven minutes away by car, is the popular destination for big names in retailing including Debenhams, Next, Primark and H&M, together with family-style eateries, a Bannatyne’s health club and a 10-screen Vue cinema. Asda, Sainsbury’s and a Tesco Extra can also be found here. Worth the extra miles... Beyond the town there are numerous activities and sights to enjoy, from boat trips to see seals on the sand banks, wildlife watching at Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve or visiting Margate’s new Turner Contemporary International Art Gallery. It is also only a short journey to Canterbury for the Cathedral, museums, a multitude of shops, and nearby Howletts Wildlife Animal Park.
