The financial assistance policy is set by the Board of Trustees. It is consistent with the guidelines established by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS) and the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). The underlying assumption of these guidelines is that parents should participate in the financing of their children’s education to the extent that they are able. Financial assistance will not exceed the amount needed to meet the difference between parental resources and the student’s educational expenses. DOCUMENTED FINANCIAL NEED
All grants are based on documented need. Parents of financial assistance applicants are required to submit a Parents’ Financial Statement to the SSS in Pittsburgh, a copy of which must be sent to the School. In addition, a copy of your most recent Federal Income Tax Return and a School Supplemental Financial Assistance Form must be submitted to the Financial Assistance Office. The Report of Financial Need from the SSS is an analysis of need and the ability of parents to contribute to educational expenses. The Financial Assistance Committee makes decisions on the amount of all grants. AWA R D E D O N A N A N N U A L B A S I S
A family must submit a Parents’ Financial Statement every year to be considered for the renewal of financial assistance. Once a student receives assistance, every effort is made to continue it as long as her family continues to demonstrate financial need. CONFIDENTIALITY
All financial statements and supporting documents, as well as the identity of families seeking and receiving assistance, are considered confidential information. T Y P E S O F A S S I S TA N C E
Grants are awarded to provide partial tuition payment. The amount of a grant is determined by the extent of documented financial need. Senior work grants are also available. TO A P P LY
•• •• ••
Complete a Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) by January 6, 2014. Send a copy of the PFS to the Financial Assistance Office by January 6, 2014. Send a copy of the 2012 Federal Income Tax Form 1040 to the Financial Assistance Office by January 6, 2014 and a copy of the 2013 tax form by April 15, 2014. (All schedules required.)
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE PFS BE FILED BY THE JANUARY 6, 2014 DEADLINE. Financial statements received after this are considered late and may be reviewed only if funds are still available. In cases where a student’s parents are divorced, both parents will be required to file a PFS. In cases where the custodial parent has remarried, the assets of the stepparent will be considered, recognizing, however, that parent’s responsibility to his or her own children. The School cannot be bound by the assertion that one parent has disclaimed responsibility for the student. The School expects that all parents of financial assistance recipients be gainfully employed once there are no preschool age children at home. N OT I F I C AT I O N
Decisions on financial assistance will be made by the Financial Assistance Committee and emailed at the time of a student’s acceptance.

D I V E R S I T Y S TAT E M E N T The Board is committed to an active, on-going effort to attract, welcome, and support an inclusive community of talented students, faculty, administrators, staff and Board members. The Board strongly supports the work of the administration and faculty in their continuing efforts to create respect in the school community for individual differences of race, ethnicity, religion, culture, socioeconomic status, abilities, gender, and sexual orientation. It is the Board’s objective to celebrate and promote the recognition, understanding and acceptance of individual uniqueness, mutual interdependence, and cultural diversity within a pluralistic society. The Board expects that the students entrusted to the School’s care will acquire not only critical thinking skills and a love of learning, but also a sense of self, an appreciation of diversity and respect for others. The Board intends that the RPCS experience will produce graduates whose lives “speak for themselves” by example and attitude.
