You see, Michael’s dad is none other than Paul Silva, a man who has made a solid name for himself in the world of fast Ford racing for the past 3 decades. He builds, races and tunes on them, and of course, raised his kids around them. But we’ll save that for another story in RPM Mag.
Born into the sport, from as far back as he can remember, Michael was around cars. He
worked his way up from watch ing his dad, to being a spectator, then moving into a Junior Dragster and then into the 1,000plus horsepower cars he and his brothers run today. “I was born into racing with my dad being one of the top engine builders for the small block Fords,” Michael explained. “Some families go camping or on trips, my family went racing almost every weekend.”
There was little doubt that Michael Silva would end up in the world of fast cars and drag racing, and zero doubt that it would be in a Mustang...
Michael Silva scored a solid deal on this super clean 7.50 cert. chassis ’86 Fox Body Coupe from family friend and fellow racer Carlos Dinis. Within the following year it was retooled for the boosted combo from Silva’s “War Fox” Mustang and to accept smaller radial tires, plus a host of other changes and upgrades….and so “Weapon X” was born.
Most everyone enjoyed the glory of the Fox Body Mustang Platform, and the Silva family is no exception. Michael was schooled by his father Paul and along with his brothers grew into racing as a part of their lives. “Some families go camping or on trips, my family went racing almost every weekend. Racing is our lives, not just a hobby.” --- Michael Silva
For the Silva boys, it wasn’t just about getting behind the wheel of a fast car as soon as they could, but more of a total package approach. They were taught to respect the power and participate in every aspect of cars and racing, and most of all, to work as a team. “The amount of information my dad has about this
industry is crazy and my brothers and I are always trying to learn from him. We are always at the track with dad either racing our cars or helping our PSP customers and Race Team. We all work so well together at the track, all of us have our duties and we are always consistent, which is a big deal in racing.
Put the Hammer Down.
You don’t cut corners or accept compromises. Use the best parts, like Trick Flow GenX® 255 square port cylinder heads that can significantly increase the performance of your GM LS-powered car.
Highlights include LS3-shaped CNC Competition Ported runners, CNC-profiled combustion chambers, 12° valve angles, coolant holes that work with all LS head gaskets and engine blocks, and your choice of standard or 6-bolt mounting patterns—all engineered, machined, assembled, durability tested, and dyno proven in the USA to help your car stay ahead of the pack.
Your Recipe for GM LS Performance!
New heads are just one component of the horsepower recipe. To make it complete, you’re going to need some more ingredients.
Track Max® Camshafts
Give your GM LS an even bigger power boost with a Track Max camshaft. Available in several hydraulic roller designs up to 230°/238° duration and .625"/.625" of lift, they are dyno proven to produce significant power increases over the entire RPM range.
Active Fuel Management and Variable Valve Timing Delete Kits
The problem: most performance camshafts don’t work on engines equipped with AFM or VVT. The solution? Ditch them with these delete kits! They include everything to completely remove AFM and VVT the right way so your engine will make the power you expect with no hiccups.
R-Series Carb-Style EFI Intake Manifold for GM LS3
The R-Series carb-style EFI single plane intake manifold brings the simplicity of carbureted-style aspiration to the GM LS3. Capable of supreme power over a 3,500–7,500 plus RPM powerband, the manifold has custom machined fuel injection ports that accept Bosch and Siemens-type fuel injectors. Other features include aluminum construction, high-flow runners, and extra material for custom porting.
