program from the Beatles’

570. Beatles: McCartney, Harrison, and Starr Signed 1963 Program. Vintage program from the band’s 1963 tour with Chris Montez and Tommy Roe, 8 x 10.25, 14 pages, signed and inscribed on the back cover in blue ballpoint, “To Mrs. Maguire, love, Paul McCartney, xxx,” “George Harrison, xxx,” and “Love from Richy, Ringo Starr, xxx.” In very good condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds, overall creasing, scattered surface scuffing, and minor paper loss to lower corner. Originally planned with Montez and Roe as the headliners—as indicated by the Beatles being listed 5th in the program—the Beatles slid into the headlining spot after the first night of the tour on March 9th. With ‘Please Please Me’ on its third week at number one, and the highly anticipated release of the debut album of the same name just two weeks away, it was clear that Beatlemania had taken hold.

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and a letter of provenance from a prior owner, in part: “Ringo gave this programme to Mrs. Maguire, who lived at 10 Madryn Street directly opposite Ringo’s birthplace at 9 Madryn Street, Liverpool 8. Ringo’s mother, Mrs. Elsie Starkey, and Mrs. Annie Maguire were not only neighbours but close friends and Annie’s daughter, Marie, was like a big sister to Ringo…I acquired this program from Marie at the beginning of the 1980s. The programme is unique in that it was given to Mrs. Maguire personally by Ringo (Richy Starkey) and bears not only the signatures of Beatles George and Paul but additionally has been signed again more personally by Ringo, ‘love from Richy, xxx.’ One possible reason why John’s signature is missing is that it was signed when John was in bed with a heavy cold during the show at Croyden on 12th March, 1963. Ringo, Paul and George performed the show without him.” Starting Bid $500

571. George Harrison Signed Photograph and Autograph Letter Signed. Two vintage items signed by George Harrison: an ALS, signed “George [Harrison], xxxx,” one page, 5.5 x 7, December 1, no date, a handwritten letter to Carol, in full: “Thank you for your letter, sorry I didn’t do it at the Cavern, [My autograph I mean!] but once you stop, then you don’t get away for hours! I am sending this other pic just in case you want it. Thanks again, Cheerio”; and a glossy 5.25 x 4 close-up photo of Harrison wearing a leather jacket, signed and inscribed on the reverse in blue ballpoint, “To Carol, lots of love, from, George Harrison, xxxxx.” In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from REAL. Starting Bid $1000
