145. Joseph Hewes Document Signed. Secretary of the Naval Affairs Committee during the Revolutionary War who signed the Declaration of Independence, one of only three Quakers to do so (1730–1779). Manuscript DS, one page, 6.25 x 8, September 28, 1763. Bond for the appearance of an individual before the Inferior Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions “at the Court House in Denton on the fourth Monday in October next,” to answer to the petition and summons of Henry Bonner. Boldly signed at the conclusion by Joseph Hewes and John Blythe, and countersigned by Jno. Hodgson as a witness. In fine condition, with tightly trimmed edges. Starting Bid $300
146. William Hooper Document Signed. Signer of the Declaration of Independence from North Carolina (1742–1790). Manuscript DS, signed “Wm. Hooper,” one page, 7 x 9.5, March 5, 1768. Document indicting Andrew Sides for the theft of a “Feather Bed of the value of six pence,” signed at the conclusion in ink by William Hooper as district attorney. Also endorsed on the reverse by John Frohock as the clerk of the Superior Court for Salisbury District, and certified by John Brevard, later a prominent supporter of the patriot cause during the American Revol. In very good condition, with splitting and minor paper loss along the lower horizontal fold; Hooper’s signature is fine and bold. Starting Bid $300
