393. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Autograph Letter Signed. Important French painter and printmaker (1864–1901)
whose lively, colorful portrayals of the people and places of fin-de-siècle Paris take a place among the most iconic images of the era. Uncommon ALS in French, signed “H. T. Lautrec,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, no date [January 1890]. Handwritten letter to his grandmother, in full (translated): “You have no doubt been informed of our little affairs by Papa that must be next to you trying to heat you up if I’m not mistaken and it’s simply to kiss you and wish you a very good 1890 that I am coming to you through this letter. I hope that by so doing I do not communicate to you influenza that I have had twice and that I am still suffering from. I can hardly open my eyes and for the last 4 days I’ve been almost unable to work because as soon as I’m in a position to paint and I look at my model I start crying like a cough and there is certainly no reason for my crying. Mother also has not been able to escape and in the end did not have too many symptoms. This is really small talk isn’t it. At the end of January I will go to Belgium to bring the good word or rather the good painting. Poor Belgians. I use the rest of the paper that is left to kiss you very tenderly and to ask you to remind me to those that are around you that are interested in the efforts of your respectful grandson.” In fine condition. An exceptional letter boasting a choice full signature of the beloved artist.Starting Bid $300
