Our decision for preservation of the fort was to blend the building into our pier structure. To achieve this effect, the castle is partially deconstructed to become a sloping wall the borders a pathway towards the pier ramp. Likewise, pier material follows the walkway on the opposite side. This way guests feel the transition from then to now. Within the castle will be a shade pavilion to house exhibits to inform visitors of what daily life within the castle was like through history.

Underneath the hill is the Southern arboretum. This semi-enclosed room is meant to resemble an everglade hammock with varying sized trees and a collage of textures from foliage, moss, and bark. The naturalistic pathway evokes a feeling of mystery as visitors twist around the forest. The walls of the arbor room are twenty-foot Plexiglas windows. Light shines into and through the leaves and visitors can look out up in the framed blue glass.
