MAT100 or MAT105 or placement test. eBook (lower cost) or Algebra Introduction and Intermediate (Aufmann : Lockwood) Calculator, pencil instead of ink pen, 1 package of short Scantrons, 1 long Scantron for the exam.

Course Descriptions:

Use signed numbers to solve first and second-degree equations and inequalities. Writing and solving word problems using variables. We will apply algebra to geometry problems. Function notation. Rules of exponents. Graphing linear equations and linear systems. Solve systems of linear equations.

Attendance:

Students are expected to attend all class sessions. When absence from class is unavoidable, it is the student's responsibility to make arrangements for makeup work and to determine whether announcements relevant to the course were missed during the absence.

Test/Makeup Policy:

You will be allowed to use calculators and some notes on certain tests. If circumstances cause you to miss a test, you can take an alternate test after class on a later date without the use of notes.

Behavior:

Students are expected to show courtesy to and respect for each other. You should plan to stay in the room for the entire class period. Please do not bring children to class. No cell phone may be used in the classroom. You will loose any attendance points if you text or answer your mobile phone during class.

Mobile Phones: Grades:

You must master the required content to pass. Your grade will be based on attendance/class participation, quizzes/projects and tests according to the indicated scale below. If an emergency such as hospitalization prevents you from finishing the class a grade of incomplete can be given. However you must have had regular attendance and must have a passing grade. If you are unable to pass the class and wish to withdraw you must initiate this yourself. Please note the deadlines.

General Objectives:

To develop an understanding applying variables in formulas and solving these formulas. I will use story problems and real world problems for writing equations. We will solve linear systems and quadratic forms.

Support Services:

Learning Resource Centers (LRC) are located on all campuses. They provide students and faculty with a collection of material selected to support the college curricula. There are videotapes for most math topics. College tutoring service available in the Tutoring Lab.
