We are STAR
STAR is the official study association of Rotterdam School of Management and is the largest study association in Europe with over 6,500 members and 300 Active Members. We support students in their academic, professional, and social development to ensure they have the best student life possible.
STAR connects students with their peers and a broad range of companies. This contact is facilitated through numerous activities and events organized by our committees and boards.
Each year, over 300 dedicated Active Members organise around 450 projects for thousands of students. These projects are classified into three pillars on which STAR’s mission
is built, namely: Social, Academic, and Career. All RSM students, in all stages of their studies, can partake in our tailored projects.
Are you ready for your next challenge?
We provide our Active Members with the opportunity to actively develop themselves both personally and professionally. In addition to this, they get access to a network of enthusiastic students and great companies. STAR creates value for every student.
Are you ready to start your STAR journey?
This brochure will give you more information about the Master Study Clubs that STAR is recruiting in July/August 2023. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us at recruitment@rsmstar.nl
What happens if I become active at STAR?
Once you are an Active Member, you will meet many new people, not only via your Master Study Club (MSC) Board but also at our events. The prime “networking time” is during our weekly drinks on Wednesday. In November, you will have the opportunity to join the Active Members Weekend.
After your MSC kick-off, you will officially start working on your project(s). On average, you will spend 8 hours per week on MSC activities. However, if you like, you can spend many more hours with STAR! Besides the weekly drinks, we encourage the MSCs to have a weekly dinner, preferably on Wednesday.
STAR organises amazing theme nights, a Christmas Dinner, Active Members Day, and much more specfically for its Active Members. Next to these special activities, you are of course always welcome to join all other STAR activities!
At STAR, we greatly value you personal development. Throughout the year, you will have the opportunity to participate in free trainings and workshops.
Last but not least, you will be in close contact with the STAR Board to share your ideas and improvements you would like to implement within STAR. We are always interested in innovative and interesting ideas.
Your social network will start to grow immediately.

What is a Master Study Club?
Are you interested in organizing events for your fellow students, strengthening your extra-curricular experience, and fostering ties with the corporate world? If so, then a part-time board year at a Master Study Club (MSC) might be right for you!
Our MSCs connect master students to the university and the corporate world. The aim of a MSC is to create value for master students by organizing events, supported by STAR’s three pillars: career, social, and academic.
In the past, MSCs have organized many events, ranging from inhouse days to company dinners, and from professional trainings to end of exams drinks. Each master has its own MSC,
so the events that an MSC organizes are tailored to fit the needs of specific master students.
The expected workload for an MSC board member is 8 hours per week. However, some weeks will be busier and other weeks will require less effort. The schedule of events is tailored to fit your master programme.
Overview of positions in MSCs
Chairman/Treasurer
As Chairman/Treasurer, you are leading your MSC to bring as much value as possible to your students. By identifying the priorities together with your team, you can optimally plan and organize the events. In addition, you make sure that the budget of the MSC is used in a responsible, fair manner and that it optimizes the value brought to students. This position requires strong communication skills and a good sense of responsibility.
Internal External Study Trip Coordinator
As Internal, you are the main contact point for the students of your master, because you are the link between the students and RSM. In addition, you are the go-to person for students with questions about everything the MSC organizes. Because you are responsible for the contact with the students, you are responsible for the marketing of your MSC’s events to the students. Your responsibilities also include organising drink and other social events for your masters.
As External, you represent your MSC to companies and other external stakeholders. You are responsible for the contact with companies, getting acquisition to fund events, and managing the relationships with external stakeholders. You are also in charge of organising several career events, such as inhouse days and networking drinks.
An important part of the MSC experience is the yearly Study Trip. Depending on your master, you will go abroad and explore the business life, innovations, and culture in a country that fits your MSc’s curriculum. As Study Trip Coordinator, you are responsible for leading your own committee which organizes the Study Trip. After September, you will recruit the Study Trip committee together with your MSC.

Besides this, your social network will expand rapidly and you get access to social events for active members such as Active Members Weekend.
What kind of events would I organize as a Master Study Club Board?
You may organize events that support one or more of our three pillars: career, social, and academic. In the past, career events included inhouse days, company dinners, and management trainings. Social events included beer tastings, after-exam barbecues, and monthly drinks. Academic events included trainings, panels, and tutoring.
How much freedom do I have to organize events that I like for a Master Study Club Board?
In the beginning of the academic year, you make a planning for all events throughout the year. You and your fellow board members are free to fill in this planning, as long as it adds value to the students of your master.
