L.S.E. t o o k B e a v e r t o H o t s p u r P a r t when t h e y p l a y e d B a t t e r s e a I n t h e U.L.U. S o c c e r F i n a l on S a t u r d a y -30th F e b r u a r y . D u r i n g t h e m a t a h they found d i f f i c u l t y i n p r o t e c t i n g him from the B a t t e r s e a supporters and deposited t h e i r p r e c i o u s a n i m a l i n a s a f e p l a c e . Derek Power and B r i a n S m i t h , p l a y i n g f o r t h e U.L.U. H o c k e y Team, s a w t h e a n i m a l r e s t i n g b e h i n d a w a l l i n t h e Rookery a n d gave h i m a r i d e i n t h e i r o a r . I n the e v e n i n g , Beaver was on v i e w a t t h e I . C . Hop a n d r e a p p e a r e d a t t h e U n i o n m e e t i n g on T u e s d a y . I t r e t i r e d i n t o t h e unknown u i t i l S a t u r d a y m o r n i n g . On F r i d a y a t e l e g r a m w a s s e n t to L.S.E. s a y i n g , " Amphibious b r o a d - t a i l e d rodent has I m p e r i a l f e e l i n g s a f t e r period of w a n d e r l u s t . H o p e s t o e a t p a n c a k e s a t home." Aa a r e s u l t , a b o u t 40 L.S.E. p e o p l e (men a n d women) v i s i t e d I . C . a f t e r m i l l i n g a r o u n d t h e Union.

T h i s was f o l l o w e d b y a s o n g b y t w o G u i l d s m e n , p v o f e a s i n g t o come f r o m " V i r g i n s ' R e t r e a t " . T h e f i n a l ; t u r n i n a v e r y short cabaret i n v i t e d the g a t h e r i n g "Come o n a my h o u s e " b u t we d o n ' t k n o w i f a n y o n e w e n t . The c l o s i n g o f t h e b a r p u t more u n - p a r t n e r e d men a t t h e d e v i l ' s d i s p o s a l . T h i s u n b a l a n c e o f t h e sexes r e s u l t e d i n a n a l l - m a l e demonstration e f t h a Samba , and a n eightsome r e a l b y s i x men a n d t h e d e c o r a t i o n s a t t h e d o o r . I t w a a t h e n d i s c o v e r e d t h a t a l l t h e d r i n k i n g equipment had n o t b e e n removed*- a soda syphon was a v a i l a b l e . T h i s changed handa r a p i d l y b u t e v e n t u a l l y came i n t o t h e h a n d s o f a w h i t e - h e l m e t e d c h a r a c t e r . Those i n a p o s i t i o n t o do s o were t h e n a b l e t o e n joy the unusual s p e c t a c l e o f a much-braided admir a l defending h i m s e l f w i t h a n umbrella from tha deluge o f soda-water. The I . C . b a n d w h i o h t o o k t h e [stand, a f t e r t h a o a b a r e t w e r e I n r e a l f o r m . T o w a r d s t h e e n d e f r. t h e i r S e s s i o n they t r e a t e d the dancers t a a v e r s i o n o f ' A l e x a n d e r s R a g - t i m e Band* w i t h a g a o d s o l i d b e a t . The r e c e p t i o n g i v e n t o t h i s emouragee tha band t o g i v e a second r e n d e r i n g o f t h e S a i n t a T h i s was the m u s i c a l h i g h - s p o t o f t h a e v e n i n g . A l t h o u g h t h e band was composed i n a manner d i f f e r e n t t o t h a t o f t h e t r a d i t i o n a l , Hew O r l e a n s l i n e - u p , t h e i r p l a y i n g o f t h i s number a p p r o a c h e d t h a t o f Bunk J o h n s o n . One group remained i n the L i b r a r y unt i l m i d n i g h t , by w h i o h t i m e c e r t a i n o t h e r s had v i s i t e d t h e "Cannon" and had p l a y e d a t l e a s t one game o f s n o o k e r i n t h e games room. When we r e t i r e d a t 1.30 some were s t i l l playing. •The f o l l o w i n g m o r n i n g most o f u s e n j o y e d w a l k s , i n o r about W i n d s o r G r e a t P a r k , but some s t a l w a r t s w a i t e d o u t s i d e t h e l o c a l u n t i l i t opened.
