PROPOSAL & OBJECTIVE 4 —

As designers we craft, make, and invent physical object, spaces, and visual images to cultivate a quality of life. Design is not an isolated object of beauty, but an integral part of everyday life. We have seen that design can be a powerful force that changes the way of life, behavior, culture, education, way of communication, and our perception of the world. The motivations behind what we design are very critical. Our questions, assumptions, experiments, and solutions have proven that design can improve lives and find powerful solutions for man and his environment. Our efforts have been successful, but there is still much more. We are re-learning, re-questioning, re-thinking, and will continue to re-invent our word with different design approaches that bring together technology, sustainability, crafts, politics, businesses, and much more. We have questions that we are pursuing and ideas that we are experimenting with to create changes. We believe that a designer’s work in progress should fight for good design. The 5th Rangsit University International Design Symposium entitled “Design Spectrum” is held under the collaboration of Rangsit University National and International Research Conference, the Faculty of Art and Design, the Faculty of Digital Art and the Council of Fine and Applied Arts Deans of Thailand, Our committee and participants are composed of professionals and academics from 9 countries - Thailand, Japan, India, China Hong Kong, The Netherlands , Germany, Spain, France, and the United States of America. “Spectrum”, principally, a design created with elements including line, shape, color, value and texture that are put together using principles of unity, variety, emphasis, balance and scale. Scientifically, spectrum is defined as a condition that is not limited to a specific set of values but can vary, without steps, across a continuum. Design spectrum in our sense refers to a principle of design varieties that contributes to a way to combine the visual elements to achieve elaborate and complex relationships in different angles. It reflects the varieties and diversity of the shape, space, color and light, to raise our cultural and socio-economic awareness of this vulnerable world.
Considering the rich and diverse complexity of relationships between design and spectrum, the International Design Symposium will be a platform for participants and valuable guests from various disciplines to further explore and share these research topics. The Faculty of Art and Design at Rangsit University would like to invite designers, artists, researchers, thinkers, innovators, and makers from various disciplines to join us and share their research, processes, art projects, views and opinions on how the design can change the world. OBJECTIVES To foster an academic collaboration among international institutions. To be a venue for researchers, designers, artists, thinkers, inventors, and makers from different disciplines to share their work in progress. To discuss ways to build an “Asia Style” sustainable society and to make understanding of our designer’s role and vision in order to create good design as nature does.

OPENING SPEECH FOR DEAN 2017

Vice President for Development and Financial Plans of Rangsit University, Dr. Attawit Ourairat, Vice Presidents, Deans, distinguished keynote speaker, Ms.Taeko Isu, distinguished participants, faculty members and students. As designers, our focus and efforts need to look beyond the object. The things we invent and improve are actually the starting point, not the finish line. We are talking about design as a starting point, as a catalyst, as a powerful force that effects behavior, communication, education, tradition, and as a result, our perception of the world. The motivations behind what we design are very critical. Our questions, assumptions, experiments, and solutions have proven that design can improve lives and find powerful solutions for man and his environment. Our efforts have been successful, but there is still much more. We are re-learning, re-questioning, and will continue to reinvent our world with different design approaches that bring, culture, technology, sustainability, crafts, politics, business, and much more. The Fifth Rangsit University International Design Symposium entitled “Design Spectrum” is held under the collaboration of Rangsit University National and International Research Conference, the Faculty of Art and Design, the Faculty of Digital Art and the Council of Fine and Applied Arts Deans of Thailand. Our committee and participants are composed of professionals and academics from 11 countries - Thailand, Japan, India, China, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France, Italy and the United States of America. Our annual event aims to not only foster an academic collaboration among international institutions, but also serve as a platform for researchers, designers, artists, thinkers, inventors, and makers from all disciplines to share their ongoing work. “Design Spectrum” highlights a wide range of design disciplines. It explores the various interpretations that designers and artists employ to manifest their viewpoint and displays the countless possibilities that cross the boundaries in our work.
And today, we are here to celebrate the work of Ms. Taeko Isu, the art director of NNNNY, a design group consisting of editor, designer, illustrator and programmer. She works on various mediums, ranging from printed matters, website, spaces, movies, products and so on. In addition to her remarkable works including art direction of Japan’s leading department store PARCO and top artist band, The Yellow Monkey, she has been awarded RGB Prize and Tokyo Type Directors Club Annual Award in 2015. Her work reflects Japanese culture, so called “Shibuya Culture” very bold and daring, represent a new viewpoint of her own interpretation of a modern Japanese youth culture. I do hope that this sharing will be an inspiration to all of us to continue our work in progress. Lastly, on behalf of the Faculty of Art and Design, I’d like to take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to Dr. Attawit Urairat, Vice President for Development and Financial Plans for his overwhelming support for this conference. I’d like to extend a special thank you to our executive committees for judging exhibition’s work, our guest keynoted speaker, and all of our friends from around the world who have made the effort to come to Thailand and to share their works in this conference. 1971 – 1976 : Studies of art and history of art at the Accademy of Arts in Düsseldorf/Germany with Professors J. Beuys, R. Sackenheim, B. Kerber and W. Spies 1975 : master-class student of Prof. J.Beuys Exhibitions : During the sventies exhibitions in Essen, Frankfurt and Mönchengladbach. After completion of his studies he worked for about 20 years without any public appearance. Since 2000 : Picking up again on exhibition activities he had continuous exhibitions e.g. at Kunstverein Erkelenz, Kulturbahnhof Nettersheim, Kunstturm Amern, kunstraumno.10, BIS, Museum Schloss Rheydt, Galerie Artwork Viersen and Galerie Slowboy in Düsseldorf. He is also regularly participating in the yearly two day ‘open atelier’ event of his hometown Mönchengladbach. About his art : Similar to sampling in music Michael Beckers re-composes and re-arranges in a kind of crossover activity existing pictures and fragments of pictures from totally different contexts into his paintings. In his art Kirchner meets Comic, Abstract Expressionism meets pictograms or a newspaper clip photograph meets children’s toys. During that process he creats new and unique sceneries that generally don’t allow any unambivalent interpretation.

On August 22, 2016 I started a time based art project using thing from my overwhelming accumulated stash; things too good to throw away but nobody wants. Finally, I got up the courage to do away with these things holding me back. I decided to hang them outside and let nature take charge, I added a few textiles at a time to a frame, timidly at first, bringing some things back inside. Stepping in an ant bed the first day resulted in several painful bites,s reinforcing that the project is hard in many ways. It hurts to get rid of things while useless to keep them. The Project progressed and defined itself. I randomly photographed the pieces and made journal entries, Connections happened. A clothesline emerged. I gathered clothesline photos I’d taken on trips over many years (to me, the “real” part of a country), printed them on organza, and added hand embellishment. Nature did tis part in her relentless way. Long drought conditions bleached the pieces in strong sun but changed them little. A huge windstorm in November blew several pieces to the ground to remain where they fell. Winter rains and freezing conditions began to do their job. The first part of the project will end December 22, four months after it started when parts of the pieces will be cut up and added to the bundles project.

Now I am locking down the space and recording marking it horizontally and vertically - but without concern for the landscape. That would be making a pictorial space. I am moving the space locking it down with two colours. A flattened space. There is a silence in this space. Perhaps something could be planed for this grid? No that would end up being architecture. I am cutting into it but not puncturing these grids it is being intersected with texture and drops of colours. Now there is sound and a kind of structure between these two surfaces. But it’s not that, then it would be music. I am moving the same colours at the same time across this series. I am trying for a system - a process for success. But its not that, that would be design. Now Im trying to make a process but the process always breaks. History.Now I am breaking it, I am filling the spaces the spaces between you and it. It is in this space and the intersections of all these spaces that makes the Painting become a painting. A zero space for the future.

Increasing population, lack of available land, and shriveled economic conditions are three of the biggest issues plaguing the metropolis of Beijing, China. These issues have caused a serious drop in the standards of living, forcing architects and engineers to conceive innovative solutions to improve the quality of life for Beijing residents. The construction of prefabricated micro-apartment towers has fast become a popular trend due to the quick

construction process and space saving advantages. By combining the design strategy of the prefabricated Nakagin Capsule Tower with the flexible living space of Domestic Transformer, we can introduce a new generation of customizable apartments. The highly flexible design of each apartment will allow residents the opportunity to alter and expand the space according to their needs, allowing them to maximize space and improve their living experience. The resulting tower prototype will be a prefabricated and replicable residential tower with replaceable modules inserted via pre-existing slots of the tower structure.

The whale trail project was created to help raise $300,000 for the non-profit organization and charities in New England area. Organized by Mystic Coast and Country Travel Industry Association, Inc. For this event, there are 50 Fiberglass whale sculptures. Size of the sculpture 5 feet long, 3.5 feet high and 2.3 feet wide. Each whale weighs about 150 pounds (68 kg). All whale sculptures were displayed throughout the New England area and had auctioned off at the Mystic Marriott Hotel and Spa Groton, CT with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting various non-profit organizations. I was invited to create a sperm whale, I titled the whale “ Whale-Getarain,” which represents

Sometimes, we may be lost in people and in the haste of the city until we are unable to connect or relate with others or surroundings. In Bangkok, with a variety of classes, races, religions, values, and cultures from people from everywhere makes it become unique blending with urban lifestyle with modernity. A center of everything as Capital Concentration, which accumulates a surplus value, prosperity and opportunity for everyone, a center of government, high-level technology and public transportation. It is a place where people are seeking for especially, the exploited workers.

The only place that helps comfort myself is the scenery though windows of chaotic urban and buildings and people who are waiting for the train and the train that runs in the opposite side. These are the variety moments of harmony that I want to pay attention to and decide to capture views through my smart phone as a modern tool.

Nature is something that is linked to human, especially the flowers that help to create beauty to the world. Flowers are comparable to human mental nourishment. The greenness of the grass and colourful blossom leaves is a sense of relaxation. Such as purple, in theoretically it is the color of caring for the heart to calm and endure the feelings of sadness or loss of mind. Purple shades is also helps to restore the balance of the mind from sorrow. Indigo is a color that has the power to stimulate the brain to be furious, encourages creativity and instincts. Green is the symbolic of a new beginning. Also heal the mind to feel refreshed, relaxed, etc. To create a piece of art by bringing flowers to inspire. It is also help to create peace and relax the mind of the creator too.

Natural surroundings play important roles in everyone’s life. Yet, city people live their lives so far away from nature and so little with it. Every single natural element, including fallen leaves and humus on the ground, is part of the ecosystem. Yet, city people loathe it, saying it is dirty. Every day, I come to work here at Rangsit University and I see these things and this natural aspect of the place. I see naturally-woven roots anchoring a tree firmly to the earth. I see fallen leaves lying under its trees. Every morning before a majority of people are yet to arrive at this workplace, a bird flies to grab a banyan seed to feed itself and then it soars to another tree. Every morning, birds sing soundly choral music. An idea came to mind that I could create a set of creative pieces. Through my physical and emotional connection with this nature, I began taking photographs of it. The collection of my photographs is displayed here. The collection is called “We see the nature. The nature sees us.” Taken with my mobile phone camera, almost all of the photographs capture natural elements at Rangsit University. Then, some creativity and imagination was added

October 13,2016 we lost our beloved king. As an artist, I wanted to share some memory about him through my painting. Since I was a kid, at 8 pm I saw him on the Royal affair and agenda news. He often visited people in remote places and various parts of Thailand. Any rough roads had never been any obstacles to him. He would get to the destination on foot with a map in his hand and a camera hanging on his neck. My memory of our late beloved king was created with a digital painting technique and shared on Facebook. A columnist name “Plew See Ngearn” asked to take my painting published as a cover of his pocket book titled “We miss our King”. His reason was simply given to me that the painting is colorful and the king has a soft smile. Most paintings he had seen were created differently. a r t ist & d e s i g n e r i n e x h i b i t i o n

Nowadays, the livelihood of humans pays more and more attention to consumption, most of the time, beyond the controllable limit. This shows that consumption is considered a big issue and also plays an important role in the livelihood of mankind. Actually, the main purpose of consumption is just to nourish the body so as to prolong the lives, but not for other reasons. The consumption that makes other lives suffer, in particular, the lives of animals that are considered less intelligent and inferior to us, is cruel and selfish. This disrespected idea is especially ingrained in humans, and is hard to change.
I remember well the day of his majesty’s King Bhumibol’s passing, I was in shock while the nation’s in pain.
The reason’s not because he’s a King but he’s the most beloved King of all time for his great sacrifice for the

Light from many different sources contains various colors, each with its own brightness or intensity. A rainbow, or prism, sends these component colors in different direction, making them individually visible at different angles. The word Chakra derives from the Sanskrit word meaning “wheel”, as well as “circle” and “cycle”. It’s described by many as a spinning wheel of light. The chakras are thought to vitalise the physical body and to be associated with interactions of a physical, emotional and mental nature. They are considered loci of life energy or prana, which is thought to flow among them along pathways called nadi. The function of the chakras is to spin and draw in this energy to keep the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health of the body in balance. A development in Western practices dating back to the 1940s is to associate each one of the seven chakras to a given color and a corresponding crystal. For example, the chakra in the forehead is associated with the color purple, so to

try and cure a headache a person might apply a purple stone to the forehead.

The scope of the study is analyzing related information to create a set of visual art hybrid in order to achieve narrative and communication. The result of the experiments is that architectural elements can be applied to be the starting points of various sequential picture story types. However, the styles of the stories come from each person’s experience, concept, interpretation, and arrangement. Knowledge of integrating different art forms will be published and continually used to be a track of art concept development.

“Fah-Tor-Fun: The Inspiring King” is an animation project conceived by Department of Intellectual Property – Ministry of Commerce (Thailand) in honoring King Bhumibol Adulyadej for his innovative genius. Department of Intellectual Property appointed Thai Digital Entertainment Content Federation (TDEC) as the key producer of the project invited by TDEC, Assistant Professor Thammasak Aueragsakul was involved as an Art Director and Adviser to the project. The first season of the project’s very successful both from Television Broadcasting and Online Media. For this, Department of Intellectual Property has decided to continue a second season whish’s in time for His Majesty’s 88th Birthday.
