B-ack when a pound -of coffee only co-st 55 c-ents, the Kaolin Festival began with a parade and quickly became a time-honored tradition in Washington County. The inspiration for this iconic festival’s visual identity was drawn from another time-honored tradition: letterpress printing. Hatch Show Print is one example of this quirky style. Hatch Show Print started producing posters and playbills in 1879 for Grand Ole Opry performances in Nashville, Tennessee and they are still around today, practicing their labor of love that produces a unique product like no other — much like the Kaolin Festival. The grain of the wooden typeblocks used in their presses gives prints their playful, rough texture. This style inspired the font choices for the Kaolin Festival logo. The color palette of the visual identity comes directly from the Washington County landscape. The oranges and whites of the kaolin mines perfectly complement the electric teal of the kaolin pit lakes. The tagline “We Dig It” is a play on the kaolin industry. “We Dig It” is an upbeat, positive message that reflects the love people have for the Kaolin Festival and ultimately Washington County. 6 ^

10 ^

LAMPPOST BANNERS | Updating lamppost banners downtown is an important part of the rebranding process. Installing banners in this high traffic area reminds local residents about the Kaolin Festival. Updated banners also create a sense of destination for visitors who are traveling through downtown Sandersville.

11 ^

YARD STAKE SIGNS | Yard stake signs are a quick, easy, and affordable way to advertise the Kaolin Festival all over the county.

12 ^

LARGE EVENT SIGNAGE | Large event signage is important in the weeks leading up to the Kaolin Festival. Large signs can also be used as wayfinding signage for parking or other key locations during the festival. Signs that are printed on heavy-duty vinyl can be re-used year after year.

13 ^

REUSABLE WATERBOTTLE Branded waterbottles are just one example of promotional items that can be used for social media giveaways that occur in the weeks leading up to the festival.

14 ^

LETTERHEAD | Branded letterhead is important to have for official Kaolin Festival correspondence like sponsorship letters.

15 ^

PAPER FANS | Printed paper fans not only allow festival attendees to cool down, but feature the weekend’s agenda on the back.

16 ^

REUSABLE PLASTIC CUPS | Who doesn’t love a reusable plastic cup? Branded cups could be sold or used for giveaways in packs of ten. These are perfect for hosting brunch before heading out to watch the parade.
