Orchestra and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra joining forces with the Ireland, the Royal Irish Academy of Music and stellar soloists and conductors to turn a revealing spotlight on the master of modernity, Igor Stravinsky – arguably the most famous composer of the last century and still its most influential. Boundlessly imaginative and brilliantly unpredictable, the iconoclastic Stravinsky changed the sound of classical music, plundering the past to re-fashion the future, borrowing freely from the Baroque and the Blues, American jazz and Russian folk songs to create an entirely new music language. Stravinsky in Focus casts light on several of the great works he composed between the start of the First and end of the Second World Wars, from the early pithy Three Pieces for String Quartet and an all too rare opportunity to experience the pulsing paganism of Les Noces to the painterly ‘Dumbarton Oaks’ and darker wartime infused tones of the Symphony in Three Movements. And there are masterpieces on every scale: including the pristine Octet, the pastiche jazz era of Ragtime, the neo-classical elegance of the complete music to Pulcinella and the austerely beautiful Symphony of Psalms. Tickets: €15, €23.50, €29.50, €35 Limited concessions available: €13.50, €21.15, €26.55, €31.50 Booking: 01 417 0000 / www.nch.ie / www.rte.ie
