More and more hunters have come to appreciate the advantages of a short and handy barrel. This trend is fuelled by the increased use of moderators, especially with the .308 Winchester calibre. Standard ammunition is formulated for use in the most commonly encountered barrel length of 60 cm. Firing standard ammunition out of shorter barrels has several disadvantages: Loss of velocity and energy, reduced effective range, dazzling muzzle flash, increased muzzle blast and accelerated silencer wear.
