C V RUBIN JOSEPH ABOUT Student of design thinking and aesthetics. I enjoy creating spaces with form, space and order. I believe architecture is the built space and not just limited to design, drawing and models. I would like to explore sustainability, minimalism and materials.

Pavilion of Expressions URBAN DESIGN
"Walk of Resonance" Intervention in the city of Thimphu, Bhutan The urban study was carried out in the city of Thimphu the capital of Bhutan. A 10 day study trying to understand the inner workings of the city - the people, history, culture and architecture. The aim of the study was to identify the missing spaces in the urban context, design a solution and give it relevance to the region. My interest in the city was drawn to the plight of artists and a lack of a space to freely express. The result of the design was a Pavilion, The ‘Walk of Resonance’ which highlighted the difficulties artists faced and providing a free space of expression which invoked a response and became a catalyst for change.

Pavilion of Expressions Bhutan as a developing country is challenged with addressing poverty and infrastructure development. For this reason, the focus on art and creativity is secondary.
STUDY ABOUT THE CITY
"City and Economy"
Due to this art has not be explored and experienced. Another issue was that the artists weren’t able to explore art styles since people were unaware about these artists and the locals appreciated the traditional art forms and styles.

"Humanizing Density" Mixed use Building within the Urban Jungle Performative Architecture ‘Humanizing density’. Exploring a HYBRID TYPOLOGY for livability through studies of global trends in growth and density of cities. The research and learning would lead to question the idea of Livability and what are the core parameters which would formulate the same. The project explored the built typologies in the area of Bangalore city which shall test the hybrid theory for Livability which is developed through research.

The Peripheral blocks are the Live units designed for the users - artisans and their families. The central blocks are the work blocks which are movable temporary spaces which can be used by the artists. The garden space below acts as a recreation space to unwind and has gathering spces and platforms for social gathering events and commercial purposes. The Live units has 3 various types to accommodate the ever changing needs of the user. The spatial organisation is flexible allowing change in the use of the space. Only the main services of the space are defined while rest of it left to the users needs and wants. Massing Of live Units

S Y M P H O N I A INTERIOR DESIGN ADMIN BLOCK
The Brief was to design the 5th floor of our DSCA block to an administration cum meeting room for the teachers, staff and the principal. The requirements were to include an Admin area for about 4-5 staff, a waiting area for guests with a minilibrary, a dining cum meeting space able to accomodate 20 teachers as well as a Principal’s Cabin

S Y M P H O N I A The Concept was minimalism with the inclusion of nature and the colour theory. Introduction of modular and industrial furniture allowed for flexibility of the spaces, especially in the conference cum dining area. Large Vertical Louvres, soliel Brille were introduced replacing the old aluminium sliding windows, these louvres allowed ample ventilation and light in the spaces and created a light and sociable atmosphere.

The spaces were differentiated also by colour, various colouring suiting the function and the activities taking place in the space were selected to improve productivity and create a comfortable stress free environment.

URBAN STUDIO COLLECTIVE
Group Work, done during the Summer break Involving 35-40 students.
URBAN STUDIO COLLECTIVE LANDLORD’S HOUSE Having seen 400 years of life, the stone structure stands with walls as thick as 800 mm. The infill is of rubble and is plastered. Accessed from the north, the entrance is though an enormous pivoted door leading into a veranda, which has now been replaced by a modern door frame. The veranda is where the family would gather every evening to make merry and chit chat, the veranda reveals the facade of the house, which is its most striking aspect.
SIDDAPA’S HOUSE A few elements of this house are very painstakingly kept authentic and preserved. A special queen size teakwood frame bed, intracately handcarved, adorns the first floor bedroom as a centre piece. It is a unique artifact with carvings of twin parrots adorning the headrest, which is also reminiscent in Hindu Mythology as Kamadeva’s Vehicle. The house is born out of fine timber, with the columns, doors and windows hand carved into majestic pieces.
