When reading the work of William Blake, you might have noticed something of a “call/response” relationship between some poems. For example, “The Lamb” and “The Tyger” are usually considered companions (connected by language/rhetoric, point of view, intention, and use of metaphor and other literary devices), as well as the poems in each section that share the title “The Chimney Sweeper,” also “Infant Joy” and “Infant Sorrow”. Discuss the differences between the works in Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. Think in terms of images. How are images of nature used? How are more industrial objects used? Beyond the two collections (Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience), The Marriage of Heaven and Hell is usually considered the final work of a trilogy. How might that collection connect to Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience? Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.
