Architect’s Statement Arkhefield have a true privilege to contribute to the transformation of this important iconic building at the gateway to Ipswich CBD at 59 East. Central to this project is the re-establishment of a positive contribution this building will bring to the community of Ipswich. The existing solid structures of the court house create the potential to open large new light wells or atriums over multiple floors allowing light to flood deep into the centre of the building, presenting opportunities for internal gardens and social gathering places. The extensive external glazing provides large amount of natural light and views over Limestone Street, East Street, Foote Lane and the beautifully kept adjoining park.

THE VISION Reinventing the outer façade and skin of 59 East Street is paramount to the building’s new identity. The opportunity to break down the existing brutalist façade into an elegant double height commercial foyer provides a facelift to Limestone Street and a new transparency into the building. The new glass entry, double height green wall, sleek awning and feature lighting create a timeless professional elegance to this new entry focal point. The insertion of oversized large architectural boxes into this space provide opportunity for corporate, retail and hospitality tenants to explore spaces within the façade and the opportunities to have presence on the street.
