Welcome to the 4th Annual Cowboy Kind Sale!

I’ve been thinking of how to start this letter, I went back to last year’s and I reread it. I ended the first paragraph with the statement “Our success depends on yours”. That pretty much says it all. We all have our own bars and charts to measure our success, be it in the show ring, the balance sheet, most importantly, with our families. In the end, with this sale, and with all we do here at Burke Cattle the bottom line remains, Our success depends on yours!

We have had a lot of success stories out of our sale last year that we are very proud of. The ones I really like are the ones that say something like “we paid for her with her first calf!” or “we liked her so well we flushed her this year!” and last but certainly not least “WE WON!” I can assure you we do not take your support and business with us lightly. Everyone involved with this sale has your success and best interests at heart.

This year has brought to us many great things, and many challenges. We have sure lost a couple people that meant a lot to us with the loss of our longtime friend and partner Dick Parrott. Dick was Ben Walbrecht’s business partner and a valued friend I looked up to for advice for most of my adult life. Our sale will never be quite the same without our old buddy Ronnie Miller. When I was in college and on the road clipping, I often stayed and worked with Ronnie. He taught me a lot about sales, consulting, cows, and most importantly, humility. If the barn’s not as clean, or the fresh smell of wood shavings aren’t in the air you’ll know he’s been missed, but I hope I can at least carry on his ability to greet you with a smile and welcome you here!

The best of 2022 happened back in May when Cody married Isabelle! While we have known the Schultz family for what seems like forever, we are honored to now call them family! Not only do they bring us some awesome livestock to help them market, she’s a great help around the ranch and most importantly in managing Cody! The other added bonus is now Derek Vogt is now family, and while we still get a bill, we get to work with an amazing talent taking pictures and putting this sale together. And of course managing Isabelle!

Morgan and Levi are as big a part of this ranch and its success as any of us. Levi keeps me fired up about show steers probably more than his brother-in-law would like. Morgan, well, she just has a way of keeping me smiling and moving forward! They brought us a great set of cattle.“Gramma Anne” at 90 finally decided we could handle the chores out here and moved to assisted living last winter. She wants to thank everyone for all the support and love she’s been shown, as do we all. No doubt she is the glue that’s held this place together for most all of those 90 years!

We would like to welcome our good friends the Sells family to the sale! I’ve known Courtney dang near since she was her daughter Vienna’s age, and they truly are like family to us! We are excited about the genetics and quality we have brought to you. There is something for everyone. Our family is blessed to have a great crew and great friends to pull off an event such as this. We thank you all for coming and I can promise you we will do our best because our success depends on yours!

All cattle will have been preg checked and examined for soundness. A complete record of vaccinations have been completed and will be available on request. Dr. Wurtz will be onsite sale day to write any health certificates necessary. Please contact the individual consignors with any questions prior to the sale. They all make herd health top priority.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

All animals will sell to the highest bidder. Any disputes or challenges regarding bidding will be settled by the auctioneer and his decision will be final. Announcements made from the block will take precedence over statements in the sale. Terms of the sale are cash or good check payable immediately upon the conclusion of the sale and before the animals will be moved. Seller will reserve the right to require a certified check as settlement before releasing any cattle. Any and all credit or refunds on cattle purchases must be approved with individual owners prior to the sale and is only to be used on cattle owned by that specific individual consignor. Credit not previously approved will result in a no-sale on that animal(s).

The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between buyer and seller and shall be equally binding in both. Animals that are resold following purchase in the sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected there to are not covered by these terms and conditions. All sales are final.

LIABILITY

All animals and merchandise will be at the buyers risk at the fall of the hammer. However, the seller will provide for the safety of each animal for a reasonable amount of time following the sale. The Cowboy Kind, and authorized sale personnel assume NO liability for injury, accident, or damage to persons or personal property. All person who attend the sale do so at their own risk.

GUARANTEE

Bred females have been satisfactorily examined for pregnancy. They are guaranteed bred at sale time and are assumed to breeders without further guarantee. Due dates listed for bred females are the results of said examination and/or known breeding dates are intended to be used as estimates of actual calving dates. No guarantee, expressed or implied, is made to the animal’s ability to produce transferable embryos with the exception of those selling as “open and ready to flush.”

FLUSH RIGHTS

The sellers reserve the rights to two (2) successful flushes of no less than six (6) eggs per flush on the females selling. Flushing will be done at the sellers expense and the buyer’s convenience.

TRUCKING

Don’t let trucking get in the way of your purchases. We have trucks coming in and out all the time and travel a lot ourselves. We are very conscious of keeping costs reasonable. We work with only the very best in taking care of your animals while in route. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser, who should furnish shipping instructions at the time of settlement. It is recommended that insurance be obtained. Insurance will be available for purchase at the clerk’s desk on sale day.

I just watched a Bankroll Daughter win the Louisville Supreme junior show the other day. If my memory serves me, a Loverboy female won almost all the junior shows including Kansas City and the Cattlemen’s Congress in 2021. This is a no miss mating.

We are bringing the power like never before! When you get in the pen with this one, you will be impressed with her overall capacity as much as any in the offering. This is a big barreled, huge footed, long necked female that’s built for the long haul. She is a maternal sister to lot 117 in the open heifers, her powerhouse dam by Broker doesn’t miss.

Here’s a pair of great looking, stout made Broker daughters! They both combine so many great qualities we are all striving for. I love how high they tie their necks to their shoulders, and their foot and leg structure will ensure their longevity. Lot 5 has the added hair and bone to breed a ton of ways, and we did the breeding homework on Lot 6 to Bet on Red, she had a red heifer we kept as a replacement this year. Red Simmi’s are HOT!

Trae send us twin sisters here in lot 8 & 9. Lot 8, pictured here is really attractive from the side, well balanced and as you can see comes in a cool baldie package. Lot 9 is the solid black version. She is a real broad headed, big footed cow that screams longevity and function. The best part is they are both bred to Bank On IT!

Many years ago, I selected a Meyer 734 daughter out of the Ray program in Illinois. She had a little too much fire for a then young Morgan Burke to show. My good friends Oran Wolfe and the late Mark Sneed pulled in one day with a stout young man named Conner Bonnell. He did more than we could ever have dreamed with her, including winning the Simmental Sweepstakes, numerous shows and State fairs, and Louisville. Her name was RF Black Jade 950. Her legacy lives on as one of the truly prolific donor cows in the breed. This Primo daughter comes to us from the Swanson herd in Iowa, another long time friend and great program.

Here is a eye catching Baldie Bankroll that came from Jordan & Amanda Holt and originated in the great Todd Rau herd in South Dakota. Just coming into production, we feel these are the kind that Remedy will really work well on. We are only selling these good young cows because we are bringing our best!

A really moderate framed big bodied future ground sow sells here! Her mother is one of our most consistent female makers. She calves early to the great Loverboy. She’s the kind that takes a good one to the bank every year.

This is without a doubt one of the best donor prospects we have offered in quite some time. I think most of you that know our program, know we have had a lot of customer success stories with donors. “Beechnut” as Vienna calls her, isn’t out of a popular AI sire, some would tell you that’s the best thing about her. Bred up early, this female has all the right pieces to kick out a rockstar. We think the sky is the limit putting some Brandon Horn bulls on her mating chart!

Miss Courtney has quite the colorful lifestyle, and this classy blue roan fits right in! She fell victim to the “CIDR EATER’ and didn’t get bred but we bet our Zeus bull can make something like this hrf pictured again!

Savage is a bull raised in the Scott Schaake herd and used extensively at Al Bruhn’s, which is the origin of this awesome first calf heifer. She’s stuck to Loverboy for an early January and **MAKE NOTE** This female is a ¾ SIMMENTAL AND HER CALF WILL BE A PUREBRED! We missed her early in the catalog which is on me, but if you miss her in the sale, IT’S ON YOU! SHE’S A GREAT FEMALE!

Who doesn’t love a baldie? Remedy worked great for us on a variety of cows, and this heifer is another example. She is sexy necked, extended and so elegant how her front third ties together. She still has the added rib shape and depth of body desired for the show ring today, with the color pattern to catch your eye every time. She is square in her skeleton, has a great running gear, and even better attitude. Loaded Up cows are doing great in production and her mother that came from Robertson’s is no slouch.

S.A.M. has had a heck of a 2022 in the show ring and just sired the Grand and Reserve Junior heifers at Louisville. Get in for next year! There won’t be many daughter’s of Dreamer offered going forward as she passed this fall; she was a staple for Rick and Isabelle. This heifer is so freaky in her head and neck set, correct in her skeleton, and has the build to win in the end. Don’t forget the 3/4’s are usually the most versatile cows that can make purebreds, percentages, or breed them clubby.

The lone Rebel heifer in the offering is arguably one of the most intriguing! The rest of our Rebel’s will be in our bull sale this spring. She is so out there in her build yet puts it all together in a feminine package. She has the added stoutness, a big square hip and is wide in her skeleton throughout. She ties in bold behind her shoulder, and has the neck set to wow in the show ring. With her added shape and dimension she’s still broody in her rib and body shape. Their mother was successfully shown as she won the calf division at KC and Louisville. They also have the added performance to put some gas in your cow herd. They are intriguing heifers with some very unique parts that are going to keep getting better. Both heifers are long and extended in their neck, flat in their shoulder design, and carry that elegance into their bold rib shape, and are correct in their skeletal build.

Her sire, Opportunity, is an On The Mark out of Angel that we kept because we liked him so well. This heifer is a reason why! We’ve kept several for replacements and sold a few bulls, but Andy wanted to offer this one up for sale. Study how fundamentally good this heifer is, especially considering she’s out of a first calf heifer and our herd bull.

More success from a Cowboy Kind purchase! We bought her mother from the Wiseman’s and couldn’t be happier. A wild colored purebred simmi here that is built impeccably from the ground up. She’s square in her skeleton, wide hipped and square through her pins and tailhead. She’s bold in her spring of rib, has that great silhouette, and is nice in her front 1/3. There’s a lot of breeding potential here!

This heifer is really coming on since picture day! She came to us a little later, but you’ll sure notice her come sale day. Super cowy, feminine heifer that is correct in her joints, square in her lines, and backed by the great County O.

Here is another barn favorite! “Spot” as we call her always catches your attention with that sexy side profile and color pattern, but she truly does it from every angle. It’s hard to make one with that high neck set and long cobra neck that still has as much body shape and structural integrity as she does. Did we mention she’s dual registered as a Mainetainer AND half blood Simmi? Show her either way, you pick Des Moines or Grand Island! A world of future lies ahead for this female.

The lone Chi female comes to us from our good buddy Ben, and wow did he bring the heat with her! This heifer is a full sib to “Fetty”, the past Louisville Champion of Sara Sullivan’s. These genetics have produced numerous champions and need little introduction. This heifer has the pieces to be a force of her own with the added power she brings to the table, and she still does it in a super sound, feminine package. Take note she is a High Chi at 22.55%, and triple clean by pedigree.

What a way to start the Maines! It’s hard to make highs built like this one. She is so soft and correct in her skeletal build, bold in her center body, and balances up so good from the side. She’s elegant and extended in her neck and head set, and ties square from her shoulder to her hip with a flexible spine and level square tailhead. This heifer has the goods to play on the national level. She has maine power in the blood and goes back to “Cici” who is the cornerstone of the Simmons program. Bid to own if you’re serious about showing a high Maine this year!

Another great high Maine heifer offered here. She is stout in her makeup and wide in her skeleton and sits square at the ground. She carries that power through her hip and top, and into her rib cage and center body. She too has many breed leaders in her pedigree and is destined to make someone an awesome cow, whether you want to raise Maines, dual registered ones, or ever clubbies!

Here is a big time Mainetainer show heifer! She’s so good in her front third with that super long neck and flat shoulder, and puts together that awesome look from the side with that soft swoop and spring to her center body. She is correct in her angles and has an awesome running gear. Her donor dam of Dustin Frank’s raised a $15,000 heifer by Maternal Made that was purchased by Arthur and shown by the Aust Family. This heifer has a bright future ahead of her in the show ring and as a cow.

This heifer is overwhelming in her center body mass, rib shape, and has the eye appeal to go on and be a show winner. She has the extra extension in her neck and it comes high out of the top of her shoulder and ties into a very correct shoulder and skeleton. She can get out and go with the best of them and still carries some power to her rear third. She’s going to be a fun one to own!

A stout made, big boned, good looking female comes to you in lot 125. Levi bought a flush on the Irish Whiskey heifer Taylor Goering won at the American Royal several years ago, and this heifer is a direct result. Levi flushed her to Garth, and this May We All is her first calf. She will be fun to show with her awesome attitude, hair coat, and phenotype to compete. She’s good in her rib shape and goes to the ground square and sits down soft. With her look and pedigree there are a lot of ways that will work breeding her.

SAMU Lucy’s Lady 261H is the most recent progeny out of a cow family that we like an awful lot. Her mother was a female we raised that Emmy Samuelson successfully campaigned to a number of division champion titles last year. This cow family consistenly generates! She is a unique combination of extra femininity, power and structural correctness. Plus, she’s extra hairy and kid broke. Don’t forget, Maine Junior Nationals are just down the road in Grand Island this summer.

Here is a square made, super hairy, freaky necked female that still possesses the softness in her body shape and design to be a great show heifer and future momma. The breeding possibilities are endless and should throw some color with a red and white MAB dam.

A standout, double bred Style female that embodies the goals of our program. She is the first female we’ve offered by our herdsire SAMU Style 904E, out of a young cow that we just couldn’t part with a few years ago. Her granddam was the Champion Commercial female at the Nebraska State Fair in 2018.

This female represents what we have watched John and his family build wrapped up in one Genetic package. Her sire, GCC Masterpiece, is out of the legendary 5066 cow, who has produced as many high sellers and show winners as any cow in the breed, including the dam of GCC Miss Boston 5501C. She goes back to Joe Griswold’s 066 angus cow that started it all. Her dam GCC Miss Whiskey Z450 is out of non other than Miss Chill 1829 who is the dam of Whizard, Makin Time, Unwound, and Cerveza and is over $400,000 in lifetime production.
