BRIEF • To apply the knowledge of structure, form and space. • Develop understanding of nuances of Design and develop outdoor / indoor structures. • To develop an ability and relate with large scale spaces.

INSPIRATION

The golden spiral seen in nature forming a beautiful circle is one of the key inspirations.

2

A sea horse has a very unique skeletal structure with a nice contour in its body.

A bigger version of anything like this is always eye catching for people.

PLAN 1. The entry to the exhibition has a ticket counter followed by an introductory zone explaning the exhibition. 2. The exhibiton is made interactive by having an activity area. This place helps people know more about marine life through activities. 3. The vertical aquarium is designed in a way that it is artificially pressured according to oxygen levels like that in a sea, so animals live in their particular zone i.e the animal living in deep sea will be at the bottom of the aquarium.

4. The retail counter will be selling small customised aquariums.

3

PROCESS

Making a frame structure of the model upon which the tensile material would be tensioned.

DETAILS & SCALE

4

Since the Lycra net is extremely strechable and has a high tensile strength it has been used here.

Sticking the cloth to the frame work by stretching it to have the perfect contours and the feel of the form.

PROTOTYPE

The semi-circular contours creating a boundry of the exhibition is done keeping in mind the form of the sea horse and creating a walk way for viewing the exhibition panels for the audience. The uncovered circle in the center of the exhibition is for the vertical aquarium. Concious placement of this in the center to show its importance in the aquarium. The straight poles are to create an elevation in the exhibition, to add an element of variation in the form of the exhibition.

FABINDIA

About the Brand Fabindia as a brand has a stratergy to keep the products simple, traditional and giving an Indian feel keeping up to the trend. The brand also maintains its modern touch and style, giving a contemporary feel.

7

BRIEF The aim was to promote the autumn-winter collection of Fabindia for the stores of Ahmedabad in 2013. A lot of things were kept into consideration while doing the Window Display. • • • •

Matching the simplicity of the Brand. Promoting the new collection in the store. Location of the store. Giving a festive feel.

INSPIRATION

AESTHETIC

THE MOTHER STORE

The tradition of giving gifts during christmas has been followed by one and all. Being inspired from this, the backdrop of the window has been shown like a gift wrap. Creating christmas related compositions from the existing products was to promote the product in a clever manner. Since the main store of Fabindia has all the products available, the highest selling products are displayed.

9

THE SECONDARY STORE

After the main store this is the highest running store in Ahmedabad because it is centrally located in the city. In this store on the right the lamps are placed to give a feeling of fall also keeping the color pallette of fall in mind. The inside store display is to welcome the christmas by displaying the christams tree which attracts kids also.

10

THE TERTIARY STORE

One of the newly opened malls of Ahemdabad also has fabindia with only a few customers. To invite more customers the display was very conciously done. Being inspired from the wave of the wind and showing it through snowflakes the display was kept quite simple. The stars placed on the top were attached to a motor to make them move. The bags displayed below help in promoting the brand and also give a feel of gift hampers for christmas. 11

BRIEF • To gain understanding of various aspects of structure in relation to loads, tension and materials. • To develop skills in design of joinery system and detailing of any given structure. • Understanding of different materials and its behavior in different types of loading (compression tensile and dynamics)

INSPIRATION

The curves created by the cloth are similar to that of a sailing boat.

Strips place together in a squence give a flowy character.

The fresh and the open feel given by a tree was one of the main purpose to be brought in this structure.

13

MOCKOTYPES

The importance of weaving the bamboo dies in this structure. Besides, the form was quite complicated.

TECHNIQUES

14

Intresting contours but due to too many curves the structure would have not been strong.

In this structure the front views of the structure shows a nice aesthetic form. Also this structure covers more space.

PLAN

15

PROTOTYPE

Initially the process started by drilling a hole in the bamboo, then inserting a dovel in the bamboo for it to hold and support the other bamboo strips together. To keep the raw feel and at the same time making the structure strong the joint was tied with ropes for the structure to maintain strength. Cutting thin strips of bamboo, using the tensile quality of bamboo and by the teachnique of wrap and weft, parts of the structure were woven.

BRIEF • • • • •

To observe material and its micro-structure. The behavior of material during the process/during manipulation. The importance of “dimension” and “precision”. To observe product/materials/process in holistic way. To understand the basic technological and structural aspect of development of 3D artifacts.

INSPIRATION

The piece of furniure will be designed from one of the most creative paper art which is origami.

18

The abstraction of some creative forms from basic shapes is the main inspiration for the furniture.

Creating a shape which makes it look aesthetic with the folds has also been kept in mind while desiging this.

IDEATION

The shape gives an origamic feel and has different angles to it which add to the aestethics of the form.

To simplify the shape this shape has been cut into 3 different forms.

The design of the table is kept compact and easy to carry.

After splitting the table into 3 parts it still serves the functionality sufficiently.

19

MODEL

The piece of furniture being inspired from origami, has chamfered edges to give the feel of folds in origamic shapes. Inspired by tangram shapes, the table can also be spilt into 3 parts for the user to use it at different locations in the house at the same time. The niche in the coffee table is to store newspapers, books etc which are frequently used in a living room while having coffee or tea.

BRIEF To develop a Brand Identity, which would indicate the company services in an accurate manner, adding a modern touch, without leaving out the essence of the Brand’s vision and the Brand Name. The Idea was to target the Cloth market from the mordern perspective having an Indian feel to it, keeping the current trends in mind. While starting to make the identity we decided to keep a few things in mind. • Useage of colour. • Keeping it simple. • Giving it an Ethnic feel. • Maintaining a Flow.

INSPIRATION

Saree has a very nice flow to it, which gives a feminine feel and makes a lady look beautiful.

22

A bindi represents Power according to hindu mythology. A red dot directly connects to a lady and her essence.

Alta is a red dye used to beautify a lady. The circular shape shows the simplicity of the lady.

PROCESS

The logo has thin lines so the bold character is not seen. The letter ‘T’ and ‘L’ are not differentiated in the logo.

Explorations with thick lines.

REFINEMENTS

23

BUILD UP The bold character of a lady along with her grace has been tried to show in this identity. The colors used are to maintain the ethnic and traditional feel.

1. The maroon color and the placement of the circle represents bindi. The shape is inspired from an alta dye.

Problem Solving

PROBLEMS

Vegetables can’t breath in plastic bags. Also plastic bags are flimsy.

Difficult to carry too many bags as they have short handles.

Plastic bags are not eco-friendly, add up to the non-degradable pollution.

PROBLEM STATEMENT Since plastic bags are not eco-friendly and after buying a lot of things it creates difficulty to carry all of them together. So to design a shopping bag which is eco-friendly, reuseable and comfortable for users to carry.

27

CONCEPTS

Due to flimsy and short handle the bag is very uncomfortable to carry. Also the opening was big so scope of things falling out is more.

Redesigning the lock system, making the handle stronger and the made the opening smaller but the space inside the bag is still less to carry more things.

DETAILS & SCALE

28

Continuing with the old lock design and increasing the area of the bag, the bag is comfortable to carry and spacious.

PROTOTYPE

The re-useable shopping bag is designed with a weightdependent lock system. In this bag as soon as weight is kept inside the bag and the handle is held the strings of the handle are pulled by force so the bag locks. Using a printed cloth material attracts more users. Since it is made out of waste cloth it is cost effecient. The material used is cotton so the fruits and vegeatbles can easily breath and the bag is washable. The bag is spacious and easily foldable so it is easy to carry.

BRIEF • To study interaction of visual elements such as lines, textures, patterns, colour and role of lighting in order to create the perfect mood for the space. • Application of fundamentals of design, lighting and concepts of illumination. • Understanding and appreciation of space to invite participation and interaction. • Sensorial exploration of spaces.

INSPIRATION

The bright colors of the circuit board and the systematically placed elements on it are the main inspirations.

The patterns created by the circuits which are complex yet visually pleasing to see.

A very simple board yet being so experimental.

31

PROCESS

Showing the fast growing technology by taking the metaphor of a tree.

COLOR PALLETTE

32

Making a thought bubble via circuit diagram which can be placed around the board.

Using circuit diagram to create graphical patterns on the walls to create aa tech-saavy atmostphere.

MODEL

The space has dark colored walls and the graphics in neon color represent circuits. A thought bubble created around the white board is to represent how a thinking process is initiated through a thought and then convert into an entire plan. A circuit tree shown at the corner which is growing is to show the advancement of the technology in the current century. Technology is not very difficult to adapt and makes a lot of changes after entering ones life thats why an encourageing quote for learners is boldly written on the wall.

MODEL MAKING

This is a model of a cafe that has the entire raw feel to it. The exposed brick walls, the furniture and the color pallete are the key features of the model. The exploring with the materials was a good learning. The walls are made out of foam sheet and then printed paper to get the exposed wall feel. The furniture is made out of MDF and then colored. Precison and accuracy were very important to get the proportions correct.

38

SKETCH BOOK

One of the most important tool for a designer to work and ideate is sketching.

39

SOFTWARES

Designing a space and making it look conviencing enough for the viewer can be easily done by using softwares. Scale and dimensions are the key features to be kept in mind. The application of the observation and it to be portrayed digitally is where the softwares help a designer.
