Room for the River IJsseldelta
New situation
Various measures are being taken in the IJsseldelta at Kampen for improving high water safety and spatial planning quality. This includes lowering the summer bed by approximately 2 metres, and floodplains (nos 1 to 6) will be redesigned to reinforce ecological values.
Winter bed
South of Kampen a high water channel will be excavated for recreational craft – the Reevediep. With extreme high waters, this channel can be used for discharging Ijssel water into the Dronter and Vosse lakes. Around the Reevediep, approximately 350 ha new nature will be created and 30 km of cycle and footpaths.

During exceptional high water, the various measures will ensure a water reduction of 41 cm at Zwolle, impacting on the region of Kampen. Therefore both measures form an important link for high water safety over a large part of the IJsseldelta.
