Flood plain excavation at Meinerswijk We are removing soil in the flood plain to allow the river Nederrijn to discharge more water during high water. This measure will also ensure an adequate distribution of water discharge over the rivers Rhine and IJssel.
The summer quay is being lowered, allowing the water to flow in and out of the flood plain more readily during high water as a result.
summer quay
The excavated channel in the flood plain will contain water permanently. During high peak discharges of the river Rhine, water will flow from the channel over the flood plain. The amount of water distributed, depends on the height of the peak discharge.
Nederrijn
Two of the pillars of the John Frostbrug (bridge), which are situated in the flood plain, are being reinforced.
The bank will be stripped of rubble and low-lying vegetation to allow the river to flow better. Nederrijn rubble
