Tattoo Untitled Year: Fall 2015 Instructor: Alfred Zollinger This project is intented to create a new prototype for tattoo parlors so that it appears to be less exclusive and intimidating to people who don’t have a tattoo. The flattened images that people tattoo onto skin are art pieces, yet they don’t get the attention of other visual art works. A tattoo is a physical imprint of memory. Overtime, the image ages as skin does. Copper changes its color due to its applied conditions. The use of copper in the space is meant to reflect change of its appearances, and to resonate with the nature of tattoo on human body.

The movement of water making a turn in the vessel is also found in the movement of human feet ascending and descending the stairs. When water is making a turn, pressure increases as the water confronts the vessel’s corner, and the inertia of the previous movement pushes the water forward. When one is going up on the stairs, the weight on one foot is released by the other one completing the next stepping movement. In conclusion, when the built environment changes, objects in motion will experience a change of movement. And most of the times, this change of movement is achieved by switching between confronting a new medium and releasing the object.

Year: Fall 2013 Instructor: Elizabeth Parker The design of the bathhouse is meant to be contemplative by releasing people’s mind from the bustling world of New York city. The singularity of the space allows people to flow in space like water in a vessel.

Body-On the Stairs The project starts with studies of the movement of water in a vessel and human ascending and descending the stairs. When water is making a turn, pressure increases as the water confronts the vessel’s conrner, and the inertia of the previous movement pushes the water forward. When one is going up on the stairs, the weight on one foot is released by the other one completing the next stepping movement.

Market Place 1709, Abbot Kinney Year: Fall 2014 Instructor: David Reddy
Abbot Kinney Market is a community space where people could get fresh groceries everyday. The programming is meant to provide a chance for people to meet at different times of the day. The market includes a coffee shop, a deli, a yoga studio and a courtyard open to the community.

Frozen Yogurt Kiosk Year: Fall 2014 Instructor: David Reddy The project is inspired by a painting by American Abstract Impressionist artist Helen Frankenthaler. To translate the 2D language she uses in her painting into a 3D space, I focused on composition and use of color from the original painting. From abstraction to delineation, I learned to extract the language from dimentional forms to space.

Year: Fall 2014 Instructor: Peter Vogel The concept of this project is to explore the possiblities of one simple deisng. By repositiong the basic units, the ojbect vaires in numerous forms. The idea of this particular study is to use visual illustion to achieve an interesting imbalanced form.

The design process focuses on how a single idea can evolve to various interesting forms. Rather than imposing funciton to the design, I inteded to break through the “function to form” approach and let the form decide how it is going to function.
