Lab Services

LAB SERVICES Rumenco can provide a fully functional analytical service to suit your business needs. Facilities: The use of in house laboratory facilities and external UFAS accredited laboratories can provide you with a range of analysis covering forages, raw materials and finished products. The Rumenco laboratory employs the use of both the latest NIR technology and wet chemistry methodology, which allows a number of analytical parameters to be measured. Quality: Participation in a series of analytical ring tests are undertaken. These ring tests collectively assess raw material, finished product and forage analytical parameters and are used as a benchmark to the performance of the laboratory. Rumenco is a member of the Forage Analysis Assurance (F.A.A) Group. All equipment used in the laboratory undergoes a scheduled calibration and maintenance plan. In addition to this the NIR equipment is subject to daily diagnostics scanning designed to assess the accuracy of the machine. EXTEND GRAZING SEASON TO CUT EXPENSIVE STRAW COSTS Beef producers could save at least £21 a head on expensive straw bedding costs this winter by delaying housing by six weeks and maximising the nutritional potential of late season grass. With straw already costing upwards of £125/tonne in the west of the country, housed bedding costs will be running at more than 60p/head/day on some farms – and that’s before taking into account any feed costs, points out David Thornton from Rumenco. “Housed cattle require about 5kg/head/day of bedding straw, so if you are able to delay bringing your stock inside for six weeks you’ll need 210kg/head less straw this winter, saving a minimum of £21/animal,” he says. David Thornton says it is perfectly feasible on many farms to leave youngstock or suckler cows outside for longer, particularly when underfoot conditions are relatively dry. “If you are able to feed the silage you would have fed inside in ring feeders outside at grass, and then supplement this forage and what grazing is still available with Rumevite High Energy and Protein blocks you will be better off financially,” he claims. “The feed blocks will only cost you around £10.92/head for the six week grazing period. It’s much less work and half the cost of the straw you would have used inside. What’s more, you are ensuring the stock make the most of the forage nutrition available, and with a feed block system, rather than trough feeding, there will be no poaching either.”

MAXX

MAXX New MAXX licks are the latest innovation from Rumenco in ruminant supplement feeds. MAXX licks are manufactured using a unique patented process that maximises nutrient preservation. More digestible energy is available to your stock for better performance. MAXX are hardened licks that give excellent control of free-access intakes.

Why use MAXX? Highly Palatable: The very high molasses content and inclusion of vegetable oil means palatability and acceptance is excellent. Stock cannot bite these licks, but their licking action helps moisten the surface to release a controlled amount of product that limits intake. Fully Formulated: The little and often intake of MAXX licks helps to improve rumen stability, resulting in higher intake and digestibility of roughages. Researched: MAXX licks have been thoroughly tested on farms in 55 separate studies prior to their launch. The trials showed: • Uniform control of intakes compared with competitor products • Suitable for all classes of stock over 12 weeks of age at grass or indoors • Exceptional weather resistance, no waste and very economical

The extra high energy level in MAXX Energy helps to offset declining grass digestibility during the grazing season and so helps to maintain performance. High levels of trace elements and Vitamin E are included to supplement levels in grass and forages. Well-spaced lick placement encourages wider grazing utilisation. Improves performance from pasture and forage. Saves time and labour involved with daily hand-feeding of stock. Provides minerals and vitamins reducing the need for other supplements. Palatable and highly available magnesium source to aid in the prevention of grass staggers (hypomagnesia). Supplies essential trace elements to help balance grazing and forages. Improves utilisation of grazing and forages. DO NOT FEED TO SHEEP

Feeding MAXX: • Offer MAXX licks on a free-access basis with ad lib forage or grazing. When grazing is in short supply provide additional supplementary forage • Spread licks over grazing area to encourage wider foraging • Place licks away from the water supply, this is especially important indoors • Due to a period of feed acclimatisation, intakes may initially be higher than published, but will typically level out after 7-10 days

GUARD AGAINST MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY

Spring turnout brings with it optimism and an opportunity to focus on other tasks, but it often also brings the threat of metabolic disease. For example, rapidly growing spring grass is very low in magnesium and with milk output often high in March and April for both lactating dairy cows and recently calved sucklers, hypomagnesaemia or grass staggers is a very real threat at this time of year. According to Rumenco technical manager David Thornton, grass staggers is most commonly a disease of lactating cows at grass. This is because lush spring grass, in particular, is low in magnesium whereas the output of the mineral in milk is high. “Blood magnesium levels can fall rapidly shortly after spring turnout to grass – giving rise to clinical disease symptoms including hyper-excitability, muscular twitching, convulsions, respiratory distress, collapse and death. When the onset of clinical signs is acute, death can occur in up to 50% of cases. Consequently, hypomagnesaemia is a disorder of considerable economic importance to both dairy and suckled calf producers,” he says. David Thornton says that recent information on incidence of hypomagnesaemia is difficult to find and because many cases are not reported. Nevertheless, the disease problem is definitely widespread. The National Animal Disease Incidence Service (NADIS) reported an average of 35 cases per month between July and September 1997-2004 from 40 large animal veterinary practices and 6 veterinary colleges nationwide. But like most nutritional diseases, the animals showing clinical signs are just the tip of the iceberg – for every cow with obvious disease, many more will be affected sub-clinically. “The usual range of plasma magnesium concentration in dairy cows is 0.75-1.0mmol/litre. Moderate hypomagnesaemia may not result in clinical disease, but the danger of tetany can increase as the plasma level falls below 0.4mmol/l. Not all cows with severe hypomagnesaemia develop clinical signs, some may maintain critically low levels for a long period and remain clinically normal, but reduce milk output,”David Thornton says. “In order to recommend the most effective methods of controlling hypomagnesaemia in dairy and beef cows it is important to understand what factors contribute to the condition. In addition, in today’s highly competitive market place when producer margins are under severe pressure, a cost benefit analysis is useful for comparing alternative systems. A simple on-farm hypomagnesaemia risk assessment is easily done to determine the most cost effective and appropriate way of evaluating alternative control strategies. This could ensure cows under the highest risk receive higher levels of supplementary magnesium compared with cows at less risk,” he points out. David Thornton says that cost savings may come from offering the magnesium supplement in a format most suited to the hypomagnesaemia risk. “Where the risk is high, feeding a low dose magnesium product could increase hypomagnesaemia risk and reduce performance and possibly not provide sufficient absorbed magnesium to prevent tetany. Conversely, where the risk of staggers is low, using a high dose product adds unnecessary cost. “Experience says free-access high magnesium SUPAlyx buckets provide adequate cover where the staggers risk is medium to high, whereas the soluble forms of magnesium in liquid supplements are more appropriate where there is a very high risk.”

LAMB & EWE

LIFELINE Lamb & Ewe LIFELINE Lamb & Ewe is a purpose formulated supplement that benefits the unborn lamb as well as the ewe. The only product proven by SAC (Scottish Agricultural College). Trials at SAC showed a 25% increase in IgG levels in ewe colostrum. IgG is the antibody that infers natural passive immunity from the ewe to her lambs. • Enhances colostrum quality • Optimising vitamin and mineral status of ewe and lambs • Promotes easier lambing and vigorous, healthy lambs

LAMB & EWE

Optimise lamb immunity Immuno protein production and antibody levels in the colostrum are increased by incorporating mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) in LIFELINE. The addition of MOS also increases absorption of colostrum by the lamb, therefore maximising immune status, enabling the new born to fight disease, resulting in healthier lambs. This is particularly important with young ewes who may have poorer quality colostrum.

Enhanced colostrum quality and yield The combined benefits of lactose, molasses and protected palm oil as energy sources ensure the efficient absorption of nutrients and enhanced colostrum protein levels. Lactose is proven to increase dry matter intake and stimulate rumen papillae for increased absorption of nutrients. Lactose is particularly efficient at increasing microbial protein yield, with an amino acid profile similar to fishmeal, which is shown to boost colostrum protein levels.

Easier lambings and improved lamb vitality High levels of selenium and Vitamin E are added to ensure the lamb gets the best possible start whilst lambing problems are minimised for the ewe. Ewes are quick to lamb, show less incidence of retained placenta, and body reserves are boosted to promote high milk yield in early lactation. Lambs are quick to stand and show a strong desire to suckle, showing more vitality and a better “will to live.

Optimise health in the ewe and lambs A complete mineral and vitamin package is included for optimum health in the ewe and lamb. High levels of zinc, including protected zinc are added to support a healthy udder, skin and hoof tissues.

LAMB & EWE

LAMB LOSSES AT A RECORD LOW Lamb losses on a Welsh farm are at a record low after a focus was placed on ewe nutrition pre-lambing. Gerald Brown and his son, Mathew, lamb 340 ewes, sponging 100 ewes to lamb at the end of January to capitalise on the early lamb market. The remainder lamb from early March. They were keen to improve ewe and lamb health post-lambing and were advised to supplement the ewe diet with minerals, vitamins and trace elements. Two years ago they introduced Lifeline Lamb and Ewe two weeks prior to lambing. “We have seen a big improvement in the health of the flock overall,’’ reports Gerald. Ewes lamb easier and, as a consequence, both the ewe and lamb are healthier and stronger post-lambing. Gerald says far less intervention is now needed at lambing. “The ewes seem to be able to bring the lambs on themselves without any strain. During lambing we might pop into the house for lunch when there are no ewes lambing only to go out an hour later to find newly born lambs. The ewes rarely need assistance and because they haven’t had a big struggle to lamb they are healthier. This has a positive impact on the lamb.” Gerald adds. “If a ewe has an easy birth she will stay on her feet for longer and this makes it easier for the lambs to suck.’’ The Browns use Lifeline two weeks before lambing and during lambing. They have noticed that lambs are thriftier at birth, benefitting from Lifeline while in their mother’s womb and later through her milk. “The most important thing for us is that the lambs are lively and suckling straight away because it can be time consuming if they’re not,’’ says Gerald. The Browns farm 96 acres at Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire, where the land rises from 450 feet to 800 feet, and they rent a further 24 acres. They breed Whitefaced mules, sourcing ewes from Sennybridge and Llandovery markets and crossing these with Bluefaced Leicesters. This season’s crop of earlier lambing ewes scanned at 154% and the March lambers, which included 66 ewe lambs, at 174%. “We creep feed the January-born lambs to get them away early, but finish all the March-born lambs on grass.” Mathew explains. All the lambs are sold to the Dunbia abattoir at Llanybydder. Thirty-five acres of haylage is harvested as winter feed for the flock. Lifeline Lamb and Ewe has made a big difference to the management of the flock. Colostrum quality has noticeably improved and there is less need for colostrum replacer. “It is obvious when a lamb hasn’t had enough colostrum and in the past, especially at night time when we wanted to get back to bed, it would be necessary to give lambs a replacer to help them along. Since using Lifeline we have used far less,’’ says Mathew. The combination of better quality colostrum and a stronger lamb at birth have led to a sharp reduction in illness and mortality in the flock. “The lambs seem to come on in leaps and bounds, especially last year when they could go outside because the weather was good so they weren’t picking up bugs in the shed,’’ says Mathew. Lifeline’s value to the shepherd has been proven by independent trial work. For example, an SAC study has shown that feeding it pre-lambing can significantly increase immunoglobulin levels in the colostrum. Ewes fed showed a 25% increase in colostrum immunoglobulin content. Immunoglobulin content is an important measure of colostrum quality that infers passive immunity to disease in young lambs. As all shepherds know, healthier lambs have increased feed intake and growth rate, show improved early vigour and general health, thrive and are less likely to suffer from conditions such as coccidiosis, hypothermia and mis-mothering. Losses due to predators may also be reduced when lambs are livelier if born outside.

LAMB & EWE

LIFELINE CUTS TWIN LAMB DISEASE AND BOOSTS LAMB VIGOUR AT BIRTH Andrew Kirby cut the incidence of twin lamb disease, had a far easier lambing season and produced a crop of livelier newborn lambs after introducing Lifeline Lamb & Ewe for the first time last year. Andrew runs a 350 primarily Mule ewe flock with some Texel crosses at his 70 acre all grass Barstow Hall Farm, Ainderby Steeple near Northallerton. Around 20 Texels lamb in February with the rest of the flock following in March. “We start bringing the ewes inside in January – around six weeks before lambing – and introduce them to their feed supplement. We don’t scan the ewes and in previous years we have fed a standard energy feed bucket, but still ended up with seven or eight ewes going down with twin lamb disease,” recalls Andrew. “But last year it was much better after introducing Lifeline Lamb & Ewe for the first time. Only two or three ewes suffered with twin lamb, lambing was straight forward and there’s no doubt the lambs were much stronger and livelier at birth. We were delighted with the success of the new system and will be feeding Lifeline again this year.” Independent trial work has proven the value of Lifeline, which is the only supplement that feeds both the ewe and the new born lamb. Research has shown it is possible to achieve a 25% increase in the IgG content of ewe colostrum if you substitute a standard high energy sheep bucket with Lifeline. The immuno-protein IgG is an important measure of colostrum quality that infers passive immunity to disease in young lambs.

RAM CARE

RAMCARE SUPPLEMENT FROM RUMENCO Rumenco has developed a Lifeline nutritional supplement formulated specifically for working rams. Lifeline RamCare draws on the Easicare principles developed by SAC and is designed to promote healthier, better breeding stock, the company says. “The aim of Lifeline RamCare supplement is to produce longer-lasting, hard-working breeding rams with a high mating ability (1:100) that can convert grazed pasture and forages into meat, without reliance on large daily inputs of concentrates,” explains Rumenco Technical Manager David Thornton. To promote lean growth and frame development, Lifeline RamCare provides high levels of undegradable protein to balance the rumen degradable protein found in grass and forages. It also includes XPLS yeast to improve rumen function and is rich in vitamins and trace elements to balance the shortfalls inherent in forage-based diets. Additional ingredients include fish oil to boost ram libido and sperm production and motility, as well as organic selenium for improved sperm quality. “This new bespoke ram supplement now gives sheep producers the answer to effective breeding ram nutrition, and is proven to save time and labour compared with traditional feeding methods. It can also totally replace concentrates for rams when grass sward height exceeds 4cm. When grazing is poor, some concentrates (up to 0.45kg/head/day) may be necessary.” David Thornton says. Lifeline RamCare is available in 22.5kg buckets from agricultural merchant outlets. Rumenco recommends introducing the supplement from July to balance the declining nutritional value in grazed grass. Ram lambs should eat 30-50g/day and shearling rams 50-80g/day.

PRE CALVER

Easier Calvings and Improved Calf Vitality High levels of selenium and Vitamin E are added to ensure the newborn gets the best possible start, whilst birthing problems are minimised for the mother. Cows are quick to give birth, with less incidence of retained placenta and body reserves are maximised to promote good conception in early lactation. Calves are quick to stand and show a strong desire to suckle, showing more vitality and a “will to live”.

Better Health in the Cow and Calf A complete mineral and vitamin package is included for optimum health in the cow and calf. Three sources of copper including protected copper are added to combat “lock-up” antagonists like sulphur, iron and molybdenum, to optimise calf health and promote better cow fertility in early lactation. High levels of zinc, including protected zinc, is added to support a healthier udder, skin and hoof growth.

Boosted Calf Immunity Immuno-protein production and antibody levels in the colostrum are increased by incorporating sources of beta-glucans and mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) in Lifeline. The addition of MOS also increases absorption of colostrum by the calf, therefore maximising immune status, enabling the new born to fight disease, resulting in healthier calves. This is particularly important with heifers who have poor quality colostrum.

Enhanced Colostrum Quality The combined benefits of lactose and molasses as energy sources ensure the efficient absorption of nutrients and enhanced colostrum protein levels. Lactose is proven to increase dry matter intake and stimulate rumen papillae for increased absorption of nutrients across the gut wall. Lactose is particularly efficient in producing microbial protein which has an amino acid profile similar to fish-meal and is proven to boost colostrum protein levels.

PRE CALVER

FEEDING THE SUCKLER COW Dry suckler cows require feed for maintenance and the growth of their unborn calves, must be primed for the demands of lactation and prepared for re-breeding. Suckler cows also need time to rest and recuperate, as well as the opportunity to repair their digestive and mammary systems. The dry period affords this opportunity, but – as in the dairy sector – it is also the ideal time to address feet and mobility issues, and improve the mineral and vitamin status of these cows before the bull goes back in. For example, low levels of selenium and/or Vitamin E can lead to poor muscle tone in the cow, which means calvings will be much more difficult. A deficiency in the cow can also mean a deficiency in the newborn calf, which translates into difficulty in standing or walking due to muscle degeneration. Other signs of selenium deficiency include reduced fertility. Vitamin E deficiency is not usually a problem when dry autumn calving suckler cows are at grass in the summer, but it can be a problem over the winter in housed situations. More common in the summer at pasture is copper deficiency, another mineral linked to fertility. Pastures across the north of England are inherently low in copper, as many grass samples taken from the region show, so good copper supplementation in the run up to calving is the perfect opportunity to redress the balance and often pays dividends in terms of subsequent fertility. Calcium and magnesium, too, are important minerals for the dry suckler cow. Both these macro minerals are essential for strong muscle contractions, but there are also cautions that – if incorrectly balanced – can predispose the cow to metabolic problems like milk fever. Magnesium is a very important mineral for suckler cows and the stress of cold, wet weather or calving can easily trigger grass staggers. In many suckler herds, improved fertility is the route to better profitability. Also with mineral deficiencies at the root of many a herd’s fertility problems, improved dry cow nutrition is often the key that unlocks better performance.

PRE CALVER DAIRY

NEW DRY COW SUPPLEMENT CUTS PROBLEMS AROUND CALVING

There was a time when displaced abomasums, milk fevers and retained cleansings were an irritating issue at Jones and Timmis in Shropshire, but a change 12 months ago to the dry cow management regime has allowed milk producers Hugh and Matthew Jones to put these problems firmly behind them. Hugh and his son Matthew run 230 Holstein Friesians at Lower Grimmer Farm near Minsterley. The Jones’ have steadily expanded the herd, having merged with Penny Timmis following the death of her husband, and then purchasing another smaller herd of 50 cows. Ultimately, the plan is to move up to 300 cows. “The consolidation of three separate herds into one has been a challenge,” says Matthew. “The neighbouring herd was originally all British Friesians, so it has taken time for us to get the breeding policy on track and a management system that suits the cows. We’re great believers in adapting the management to fit the cows’ needs and milk contract requirements, but it has taken a while to get everything running smoothly.”

The Jones’ switched to a TMR system about five years ago and the all year-round calving herd now averages 8,500 litres at 4% butterfat and a steady 3.2-3.3% protein. Basal ration is a grass maize silage mix with caustic-treated wheat, molasses, soya, a purchased blend and Energizer RP10 C16 protected fat. Milk is now sold to Medina, which specialises in the liquid market concentrating on supplying small local retail outlets rather than the supermarkets. “The service has been great and we are very pleased with the contract. Milk is always collected regularly and we are paid weekly,” Hugh says. Grass is the main forage with 300 acres available for grazing and silage, plus 50 acres of maize and 50 acres of heat. PRE CALVER DAIRY

“Our ground is quite heavy, so we find it difficult to grow maize, but it’s undeniably a great feed for the cows so we try to grow a bit every year,” Matthew says. The farm also has around 80 acres of very steep ground, which is used to graze youngstock. Amongst the many system improvements the Jones’ have addressed over recent years is the dry cow management. “In the past, we’ve had our fair share of DAs and quite a bit of milk fever. Retained cleansings have also been an issue, so we’ve spent time refining the dry cow management and a year ago we changed the ration,” Matthew says. Cows are now dried off between 45 and 60 days before calving, tubed and then housed three weeks before they calve and fed a straw/silage based diet. But it was the introduction of a specialist precalving supplement that really made the difference. “We used to simply feed a dry cow mineral, but it didn’t seem to prevent metabolic problems like milk fevers. It wasn’t until we started using Rumenco’s Lifeline Pre-Calver Crumb in the ration that things improved significantly. Not only did we stop getting so many milk fevers, DAs and retained cleansings, calvings became much more straightforward. Calves slipped out easily in a pool of water and are definitely now standing and sucking more quickly,” Hugh says.

XPLS YEAST

XPLS YEAST CULTURE A fully fermented yeast culture and NOT just simple live yeast cells The high levels of performance demanded of today’s livestock requires more attention to detail when it comes to management and feeding. Finely tuned feeding programmes are required and XPLS yeast culture can play a key role in maximising animal health and performance.

What is XPLS yeast culture? XPLS is a yeast culture produced from two full yeast fermentations in a controlled environment. During yeast fermentation metabolic by-products are produced, alcohol is a good example of an extracellular metabolite resulting from yeast fermentation. XPLS yeast culture is therefore not a single compound but a complex product containing the extracellular metabolites produced during fermentation, the intracellular yeast cell nutrients such as beta-glucans & mannans and the natural media used during fermentation.

How does XPLS yeast culture work? The metabolites produced during fermentation and contained within XPLS yeast culture when fed to animals stimulate the growth and activity of the beneficial bugs in the rumen and gut. This healthy balance of bacteria in the rumen helps optimise rumen function. The result is improved rumen function and healthier animals performing to their potential.

XPLS YEAST

Rumenco’s confidence in the value of XPLS yeast culture is based on extensive research carried out, not only in the UK but also worldwide. Previous research has demonstrated various benefits for all types of livestock.

Benefits of feeding XPLS Yeast Culture Transition & early lactation: XPLS yeast culture supports increased dry matter intakes during transition & the early lactation period. This helps maintain body condition along with increased milk production. Furthermore, overall cow health is maintained.

Dairy Mid to late lactation: XPLS yeast culture supports improved feed efficiency in mid to late lactation through increased milk production & decreased dry matter intake. In addition, improved rumen efficiency ensures overall cow health is maintained.

Beef

Feeding XPLS yeast culture increases the numbers of lactate utilising bacteria, this helps to keep rumen lactate levels low and thus stabilises the rumen pH. The rumen therefore functions more efficiently and the risk of problems such as acidosis are minimised. In addition, higher dry matter intakes directly results in increased net energy intake and average daily gain improvements along with higher carcass weights & killing out percentages.

Sheep & Goats

Addition of XPLS yeast culture to the diet improves diet palatability and therefore ensures higher dry matter intakes even during periods of stress. These higher dry matter intakes along with an increased availability of nutrients for absorption will potentially result in improved animal production (milk & growth).

Calf & Lamb

XPLS yeast culture increases starter diet dry matter intake and therefore promotes rumen development. As a result average daily gain is improved and overall calf & lamb health is maintained.

XPLS YEAST

Feeding XPLS yeast culture Because XPLS yeast culture is a fully fermented product, it is very stable. It is not a live yeast product and is therefore not killed in the rumen, it can withstand high temperatures and processing such as that used in compound, mineral, block and bucket manufacture. XPLS yeast culture is entirely natural and suitable for all classes of livestock. In addition, it is flexible and suited to a wide range of feeding situations.

XPLS YEAST

XPLS YEAST CULTURE IMPROVES DAILY LIVE-WEIGHT GAIN AND CARCASE DAILY GAINS OF INTENSIVELY FINISHED BULLS FED AD LIB CEREALS RIGHT THROUGH TO SLAUGHTER Research was conducted by Harper Adams University College to determine the effect of XPLS yeast culture supplementation on health and performance of intensively finished bulls. Research summary • 36 dairy-bred bulls approximately 7-months old (320-kg live-weight) were split into 2 groups of 18 and assigned to 1 of 2 treatment groups; »» Control group offered a standard 14% protein barley beef ration »» Treatment group offered the same mix as the control animals with 0.4% XPLS yeast culture added • All cattle were housed in straw-bedded yards with free access to straw from free racks

Results • The XPLS fed bulls recorded significantly higher daily liveweight gain compared to the control group due to an increased feed intake • However, the XPLS fed bulls were slaughtered 6 days sooner than the control animals (Table 1) • Based on the costs prevailing at the time of the study, the highest margin over feed was recorded with the XPLS fed bulls, which was increased by £12. If other costs such as machinery, water and electricity are costed in at 15p a day this is worth an additional £0.90 per bull, resulting in an overall 4.2% margin increase of £13 per bull Table 1: Animal performance (bulls @ 320-kg start weight)

RUMEN BALANCE

RUMEN BALANCE High starch diets and higher dry matter intakes often associated with high yielding dairy cows will alter the volatile fatty acid levels and in particular increase lactate levels in the rumen. This results in lower ruminal pH (acidosis) and reduced activity of rumen bugs, which can affect feed intake and feed utilisation, thus reducing animal performance. The higher performance demanded from today’s dairy cows means the incidence of subacute ruminal acidosis is becoming increasingly common.

What is Rumen Balance? Rumen Balance is a complimentary feed for addition to high yielding dairy diets to help prevent rumen health problems, such as acidosis. The blend contains a variety of buffering agents, which ensures an improved absorption of excess acid over a wider period of time compared to single buffers alone. These buffers include: • Acid Buf, derived from marine algae, Acid Buf has a large surface area, providing a higher acid absorbing capacity. Furthermore, there is plenty of research work to support the benefits of adding Acid Buf to high-starch diets. • Sodium bicarbonate and magnesium oxide, both regulate rumen fermentation and increase rumen pH. • XPLS yeast culture, promotes improved rumen fermentation and increases the lactate utilising bugs resulting in amore stable rumen pH and therefore tackling the cause of excess acid in the diet. Furthermore, XPLS yeast culture also helps to improve feed efficiency and animal production, including milk yields and live-weight gains. • Vitamin B12, compensates for the loss of B vitamins often associated with high concentrate diets.

Feeding Guidelines Rumen Balance should be fed at 100g/h/d. Suitable for addition to dairy diets.

MYCOBIND

MYCOBIND A complimentary, multifunctional feed blend and mycotoxin inactivator for supporting the immune system & maintaining animal production.

Mycobind contains: • A concentrated version of Inactivayte – a multi-functional mycotoxin inactivator with a broad spectrum of activity. • XPLS yeast culture – A fully fermented yeast culture, XPLS contains high quantities of beneficial nutritional metabolites that deliver nutritional value to the animal. XPLS helps promote a healthy balance of bacteria in the rumen and optimise rumen function. This improved rumen function translates into healthier animals performing to their potential. Furthermore, previous research has shown that the bioactive compounds within XPLS yeast culture will improve the antioxidant capacity of cells, activate immune cells therefore allowing the immune system to respond quickly and efficiently to a challenge, minimising the impact on animal production.

Feeding Mycobind Recommended feeding rate is 50g/h/d (A lower feeding rate of 35g/h/d may be suitable in a maintenance situation).

INACTIVAYTE

INACTIVAYTE A highly effective mycotoxin inactivator for optimum protection • Effective against a broad range of mycotoxins and other naturally occurring toxicants • Supports animal health • Increases animal performance

The problem • Mycotoxins are naturally occurring toxic substances produced by fungi (Aspergillus, Penicillium & Fusarium) in the field, during handling or storage • Mycotoxins can be found in feeds, forages & cereals • Mycotoxins are a hidden threat that can cause health & performance problems

The symptoms • Symptoms of mycotoxin contamination may be vague and are easily confused with other conditions but the overall result is reduced performance, reproduction and a greater susceptibility to infectious diseases. Therefore, it is crucial to protect animals from the negative effects caused by mycotoxins

56 56

www.rumenco.co.uk

INACTIVAYTE

The solution: Detoxify & Support Inactivayte is a complete solution to inactivate mycotoxins and minimise the negative effects of mycotoxins in all animals, containing components to detoxify and eliminate toxins and provide support to affected organs and functions; 1. Detoxify: Absorption by modified, high adsorbent minerals. Inactivayte contains an improved clay mineral formula with increased adhesion surface, stronger static adhesion and better prevention of loss of minerals & vitamins. 2. Detoxify: Enhanced biotransformation of the chemical structures of mycotoxins helps enable elimination. 3. Support: Inclusion of specific, selected botanicals known to prevent organ damage provides organ support. 4. Support: Inclusion of immune modulators helps reduce immunosuppression and optimise the immune response. 5. Support: Inclusion of antioxidant substances helps prevent oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Inactivayte offers a powerful tool to help combat harmful mycotoxins and optimise animal production.

Feeding Inactivayte • 50 – 60g/h/d Up to 100g/h/d for problem situations
