THE CALL OF GOLD 28TH MARCH 2016
THE ESSENCE OF GRIMNIR It is the beginning of the Age of Sigmar, and across the Mortal Realms, the crash of thunder and lightning herald the arrival of new beings, bred for war and determined to reclaim the realms from the forces of Chaos. From flame filled holds and deep mountain vaults, the Fyreslayers march to war. With axes ready and war cries on their lips, they charge into battle, the power of the mighty warrior god Grimnir flowing into them from glittering golden runes hammered into their ruddy flesh. Since the Age of Myth, the Fyreslayers have travelled the realms seeking ur-gold, a substance they believe contains the very essence of their warrior-god Grimnir. Spreading from the first vast subterranean magmaholds of Aqshy, the Fyreslayers took root among the realms. They amassed gold, mined from the earth, or gathered from the ruins of fallen empires, seeking out the rare pieces of ur-gold hidden among this precious bounty. In the last few cycles, rich veins of ur-gold have been uncovered in the Realms of Gyhran, Ghur and Shysh. Hundreds of Runesons have set off with their Runefather’s blessings to found new Fyreslayer lodges. But such a precious haul of magical gold has attracted armies of all kinds, all desperate to get their hands on the ur-gold in order to forge mighty new magical weapons for to aid them in theconquering of The Mortal Realms. The call of gold is uncontrollable to most in the Mortal Realms and generals march on the promise of claiming but a scrap of it. Can you take the gold and see off your rivals? Additional: All miniatures in your collection must be produced by Games Workshop and be fully assembled, painted and based. Each model must fully represent the units from each Warscroll you are using.
MUSTERING YOUR FORCES To take part in The Call of Gold, you need to bring a collection of miniatures with you. Before each game, select the miniatures you want to use for that game. See the battleplan The Call of Gold at the end of this pack for the guidelines to follow for each game. See Event Essentials above for a summary. THE LAWS OF GOLD HUNTING To ensure everyone has a great experience at this event, we expect all players to followthese event principles: • All miniatures used must be produced by Games Workshop. • All miniatures used must be fully assembled, fully painted and fully based. • Each model must represent what is presented on its warscroll, including all weapon options. • Please do not use proxy models; use the correct miniature or a suitable conversion. GAMES At the heart of your The Call of Gold experience are the 3 games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar you will play over the course of the day. Each game lasts up to an hour and a half and will be against a randomly determined opponent; the Events Team will arrange your opponent and send you to a specific table for each game. We will also roll a victory condition from the Call of Gold battleplan, so everyone is playing the same game. Once the victory condition has been used, we will cross it off our list, so it won’t be used again over the course of the day. TIME TO TALK... You will note that before each game, we have allowed a 10 minute grace period where we ask the players to discuss between them the forces they will use in that game. While there are some guidlelines in place, it’s important that both sides discuss what’s in use to ensure they have a fun and fair game. We expect you to treat each other with mutual respect and let common sense win through when it comes to determining what models are used. You’ll note there is a 30 model limit on these games. However, of course, that may vary; if you take particularly powerful models such as Skarbrand or Nagash, you’ll probably want to use fewer models. Equally, if your army is made up of Grots or Skaven, you might want to take more (why not ask the opponent if you can use more than 30 models?). Why not theme your army around a warscroll battalion? If the battle is going very one-way early on, why not add more miniatures in to make the game closer and last longer? There really is no hard and fast rule, other than to make sure both of you have a good time. The staff team will be on hand during this time to help with those conversations, should you require it.
SCORING At the end of your games, we will be asking you to fill out a result slip so we can keep a record of how the event is going. Simply record the number of Laurels of Victory you have earned at the end of the game. Don’t forget – the player with the lower Martial Strength (called the underdog) has access to more Laurels of Victory than the other player. FAVOURITE GAME VOTES At the end of the event, we ask each player to vote for the person they most enjoyed playing against. You can vote for whatever reason you like; perhaps the opponent was particularly sporting, or their army was beautifully painted. Maybe they taught you a new tactic you’d never seen or it was a very close, cinematic game. Whatever the reason, please recognise your fellow players who have made the effort to provide a great experience and cast your vote on the special results slips provided. WINNING THE EVENT At the end of the event, the player who has earned the most Favourite Game votes from their opponents will be declared the winner of the event and crowned The Lord of the Forge-Temple. If there are multiple players with the same number of votes received, we will use the number of Laurels of Victory you earned during your games as a tie-breaker. THE BEST ARMY COMPETITION In order to acknowledge the outstanding efforts that some players go to in order to produce stunning armies, we have the Best Army competition. The Events team will nominate armies for everyone to vote on during lunch time. The player who receives the most number of votes will win the Best Army award. AWARDS AVAILABLE • Best Army Award for the player who earns the most votes for Best Army. • The Crest of the Battlesmith To the player/players who scored the most Laurels of Victory. • The Lord of the Forge-Temple to the player who earns the most Favourite Game votes from their opponents.
