Welcome
T
TO M I S S V I R G I N I A VO L U N T E E R !
onight we are here to celebrate! We celebrate a brand new scholarship pageant program here in Virginia. We celebrate the opportunity to gather with one another at this beautiful, historic venue. And of course we celebrate an extraordinary group of young women of all backgrounds, talents, experiences, and abilities. I am grateful and humbled to be the Executive Director of the Miss Virginia Volunteer program. I am so thankful for the many volunteers that have come alongside me and for all the support and encouragement we've received from the community. I feel so blessed for the opportunity to mentor these young women through the Miss Virginia Volunteer program, and my desire is to give insight to their abilities, to showcase their unique personalities, to raise awareness of their personal platforms, to teach them the importance of volunteerism and the giving of oneself, and to show them that crowns can lead to careers. By providing scholarships and educational opportunities, my hope is that these talented and committed young women will use their status and experience to make a difference in their communities through their social platforms, and in their own way, to change the world. Now, all eyes are on these eight incredible young women as they take the stage tonight, and I am so proud of them for so beautifully representing the great Commonwealth of Virginia. As we celebrate each outstanding moment tonight, let us all continue to share in the spirit of generosity, sisterhood, and community. ALL MY LOVE,
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MISS VIRGINIA VOLUNTEER

5 POINTS OF THE
Crown
The 5 points on the Miss Virginia Volunteer crown represent the 5 principles of S.E.R.V.E.:
SCHOLARSHIP
Miss Virginia Volunteer is proud to offer scholarship opportunities to Virginia’s exceptional women. We believe this is one of the most effective ways to shape our promising young women into strong leaders of tomorrow and to encourage a brighter future, not only for the recipients but also for the communities in which they live and work.
EDUCATION As a scholarship-oriented organization, Miss Virginia Volunteer provides higher education opportunities to young women throughout Virginia. By pushing for excellence in higher education, we hope to promote personal growth, stability, and an increased sense of independence and self-confidence.
RESPONSIBILITY The Miss Virginia Volunteer organization cultivates a sense of personal and social responsibility through exceptional opportunities and organized activities. Our mission is to provide our participants with all the tools they need to become reliable, productive, and confident members of society.
VOLUNTEERISM As our name suggests, volunteerism is a major part of who we are as an organization, and we take pride in serving our communities through dedicating our time, skills, and effort. Not only do our communities reap the benefits of our efforts, but our participants also gain a sense of pride, self-worth, and responsibility to one another and to their communities.
EMPOWERMENT Through our meticulously cultivated program, we actively pursue ways to encourage one another to reach our full potential, both as individuals and as an organization. We pride ourselves on this unique opportunity to shape not only the personal lives of our participants but also the lives of those they touch in their communities.
A Legacy of Empowerment

ABOUT THE
HISTORIC ACADEMY THEATRE
YOUR ARTS CENTER
IN DOWNTOWN LYNCHBURG
The Academy Center of the Arts campus, which encompasses several venues in downtown Lynchburg, is anchored by the Historic Academy of Music Theatre. Originally built in 1905, the Academy was the focal point for entertainment in Lynchburg from the time it opened well into the 1920s. The Academy fell into disrepair and was set to be demolished in the 1960s, until the Friends of the Academy of Music intervened. In 1969, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in hopes the designation would expedite restoration efforts. Eventually, with help from generous donors and the Lynchburg community, the theatre underwent major renovations and restoration efforts from 2015 until it reopened in December 2018 — more than 60 years after it shut its doors to the public. Updates to the 835-seat theatre include state-of-the-art sound and lighting technology, projection screens, and streaming capabilities — all while preserving the 1912-aesthetic that makes this venue a local favorite for theater, music, and quality entertainment!

W H O / W H AT I N S P I R E S Y O U ? My parents are the people that have had the most significant impact on my life. My mom taught me how to be grateful and appreciate the finer things in life. She taught me how to be patient and resilient through adversity. My dad, on the other hand, taught me the true meaning of generosity and hard work. I have grown up very fortunate, I always got new clothes before the start of school, they gave me my first car, and they have provided me with a life that most people could only imagine having. However, they made sure to remind me that I need to work hard, be humble, and kind to receive the things I want in life.

PRODUCTION & PERFORMANCE JA S O N S C H O N F E L D E R |
LEAD PRODUCER
Jason was born deep in the rural farmland of northern Illinois, but he is proud to call Central Virginia home for more than 40 years. For two years, he volunteered for a state-wide educational scholarship program in Virginia, where he was an onstage co-host during their live production. Jason has been in and around live production for more than 30 years and is certainly no stranger to the stage. He has appeared in numerous local musical theater productions and loves singing and acting. From behind the curtain, Jason’s stage experience began as a lighting designer, giving him well-rounded knowledge of all aspects of live shows, both on stage and in the booth. Jason’s favorite role by far is that of husband and father to his wife, Heather, and their 4 boys, Sutton, Jack, Evan and Max. They reside in Forest, VA.

PERFORMERS
Est. 2017, Lynchburg Dance Connection (LDC) was originally developed as a social media database for college students to find local classes, camps, masterclasses, auditions, events, performances, and more in the Central Virginia Community. LDC’s mission is to unite the dance community and create a supporting and uplifting environment in and out of the studio walls. Weekly, LDC holds classes open to all in the levels of Intermediate/Advanced, Advanced, and Professional levels while giving upcoming choreographers, videographers, and other creatives an opportunity to work their craft. Annually, LDC hosts a showcase at the Academy Center of the Arts that include dance studios, crews, teams, and companies throughout the community. This is an evening to celebrate what each group represents under a given theme while giving out Senior Scholarships and studio scholarships. LDC strives to be inclusive to all while spreading love and unity within the dance community and beyond! We believe there is room for ALL in the dance industry and that we are better together.
