The threat of taxation of high value residential real estate which was raised in the April 2012 budget was to some extent watered down after draft legislation was published in December 2012 and we have therefore all rather breathed a sigh of relief. Whilst we have some excellent international buyers who in principle wanted to purchase property in 2012, sentiment was generally to ‘wait and see’ what the best way of structuring the purchase was going to be.
