MULTIFARIOUS FUTURE: Experience and Test Sports Retail Center Les Halles, Paris, France Les Halles is a historical market place from 20 centur y at the north of River Seine, right west of the Pompidou Center, near Musee du Louvre. Based on the researches of nowadays' retail stores and reviews, we think that future retail should focus more on the shopping experience and embrace urban transport pretty well. We try to provide Paris citizens a "One-Day Experiential Park" where people could "rent" all the newest products from multiple brands within a day and test them in our testing courts. There is only "Product Gallery" to display new stuff but no store any longer.

In charge of Concept and Strategy Design, Overall and Chunk digital model, Plan Drawings
Besides, from the material study in Cemex, we develop the "Floating System." Plants could grow on the lightweight, porous concrete plates, which could float with water running through the whole site. That creates a changeable landscape and unique visual experience.
2018 Fall Instructor: Robert Stuart Smith
What's more, we also design a compact lift system which could move both horizontal and vertical. The general track is hanged under the floor, and the lift could pump up to let customers get on and off without forcing other lifts to stop.

Airport Terminal, New York, the U.S.
02
MUTUALISM: Parallel and Interlaced Future Airport JFK International Airport, Terminal 5 Based on the section structure studies of Hofburg Dome, we extracted the basic rule set of geometry and applied that for creating cargo tubes and circulations.
Group work (with Chaeyoung Kim, Zihao Fang) In charge of digital and physical model, section drawings
In Advanced Architecture Studio, 2017 Fall Instructor: Nathan Hume
The tubes combine and intersect each other, making an unusual airport mood. The flow of tubes expresses dynamic situations of the airport, and the protruded parts of the building connect with the bridge to the airplane in the later extension. Since the protruded portion adjacent to the air train road, it can be combined with the train directly and used as the main entrance for people. For the skin, hairy skin is applied. Since the airport building is not the human scale but the vast mass, hairy skin which is divided and made up of pieces in a tiny size, it gives people not to feel too much pressure by the huge mass. Also, tube surfaces are mixed with section structures, and each tube is divided into several sections, people’s circulation and cargo spaces can be served at the same time.

These are basic machines and ways that we apply to the cargo delivery and classifying process. In the future airport, we treat cargos and devices, those non-living, inorganic “creatures,” the same way we do with human, human and cargo are at the same status. Different tunnels have different delivering speeds. Some walls between tunnels are transparent, so creatures could watch others moving. Some structures are also exposed.

In those composite tubes, sometimes cargos and passengers move in parallel lines and human can watch, observe and even enjoy the cargo’s delivering process; sometimes the tunnels intersect, cargos and passengers might meet and they move through each other but in different heights.

AUTONOMOUS AMERICA: Living and Driving Zero-Division Residence with Lv.5 Autonomous car Los Angeles, U.S. In this project, we try to assign a "theme," a function to the Lv.5 autonomous veh i cl e s , w h i ch me ans t he c ar c ou l d work i nd iv i du a l ly w it hout any human assistance or observation. The car itself could be a lounge moving on the road and provide a more comfortable environment to the riders. For the prototype car, I want it to turn to be one kind of furniture that cooperate with others in the room. So the overall shape is fluid and soft. As it arrives at home, it would plug into the revolving platform. When it turns around, the seats provided by car could meet other pieces of furniture to enhance the connections of each other. And people could also sit directly on it.
Individual work 2018 Spring Instructor: Volkan Alkanoglu
Then I develop a residence using this strategy. The revolving platform is in the center of the home with other rooms surrounding. There is no door or any other solid boundary in the house. The vehicle is the key to divide a private room with others. When the car comes back, the car doors open and turn to be the walls in the house, and the vehicle itself merges into that single room and create a bigger but private space.

Let Car Be the Division
When the car parks on the first floor, it could be used as a piece of furniture, and there is no division in the house, the residents can walk through the whole house in a path. When the lift comes upwards and fills the hole, people could roam freely. If the car doors open and meet the exterior walls, it would divide and create a private space from the unity.

Community Service Center, Wuhan, China

DAILY: Moving and Gathering Community Service Center Bapu Street, Wuchang District, Wuhan
This site is located on Bapu Street around Wutaizhai, an urban village. Most surrounding buildings are one or two floors. I observe that in this community, there are so many corners and little squares scattering but no large square or center. So I offer a larger square in the building for people to gather and according to the original pattern of the streets and residences, rooms and halls of different functions are planned just like along a road.
Individual work In Architecture Design 3, 2014 Fall Advised by Jian Chang
What's more, because only kids and old people would stay in the community on workdays in which young people get out for work or school, I find that "observation" is a common and frequent activity. Olds would sit and watch kids playing or passersby for a long time. For better observation and communication, I offer a "height supplement" to make people able to look at each other directly in their eyes and horizontally.

Movie Theatre, Suzhou, China

PURE: Darkness and Light Movie Theatre Fengqiao Road, Gusu District, Suzhou
Light is an essential element of the movie. And people who come to the building for film, would step from an entirely bright exterior space, then into different dark chambers to watch movies they choose. So, they would experience a process from "full of light" to "without light." According to this, the project is based on controlling the quantity, direction, and property of light.
Individual work In Architecture Design 4, 2015 Spring Advised by Jianyu Chen
The location of the site is opposite to Hanshan Temple, a famous scenery spot in Suzhou, and there are two rivers paralleled it. As the sun goes, the light would change its direction and make exciting scenes. Considering the active periods of different chambers vary, I organize the plan to have a light condition full of changes.

ORDER: Passing and Stay Wuhan Railway Station Residence and Business District Planning Yangchunhu Road, Hongshan District, Wuhan
This district is planned to be the vice center of Wuhan, just in front of Wuhan Railway Station, a top class one. So as the first gate of Wuhan for tourists, it should be instrumental, multifunctional, and friendly. Meanwhile, as there is planned to have a living hub for local people, it needs to be safe, convenient and comfortable.
Individual work In Architecture Design 6, 2016 Spring Advised by Chuancheng Li
Considering those differences between tourists and residents, such as their lengths of staying time, needs, active periods and so on, I set a platform covered with grass to separate the most interweaved part of their courses, with some nodes down to the ground to allow a fluent movement. Different parts of the platform are of various heights to offer different functions.
